What I hated the most about that Taskmaster was they made her gender into a surprise in a 2021 movie with a female lead. It's like they are trying to make the people coming to see Black Widow look like sexists.

The plot of that movie was also originally completely different as to how it ended up, which is proven by official concept art that's been leaked recently. Originally it was supposed to be Ezekiel was going after an unborn Peter Parker which is why Emma Roberts was cast is Peter's mom cuz her role was originally a lot bigger hence why they got a big name actress. Then they completely changed the entire plot around making it unrecognizable as to what was was originally supposed to be made and then they scrubbed any reference to Spider-Man or Peter. That's why they don't even say his name. They cut it off right before they say Peter. It's kind of shitty

The problem with the "all press is good press" marketing strategy is that it only works when the choice is To Do or Not To Do. The modern viewer has the option of the cinema, the DVD, the streaming service, and the internet pirated copy (which can often be had for free). In that environment, the goal isn't to get the audience to watch a movie. The goal is to get the audience to willingly pay to watch a movie in the theater.
Marvel & Disney should recognize that they are now vending in the buyer's market that they helped to create.
publicity is good if the people who hear about it would've otherwise not heard about it and now might buy it. so for example no one has ever seen a super hero movie this hits the news now people who don't mind the change know the movie exists, but since the only people who are seeing this news are people who are already keeping up with super hero movies it's not broading the scope and it runs the risk of boycott or more acuratly poisoning the market by making the movie not fun to discuss
Most pirated shit is either lost media (which means there is no other way) or porn (which means it's so poor quality that nobody would pay for it).

I'm all for diversity and inclusion, and would even argue that race/gender swapping could work if it serves the story. HOWEVER, it's getting really hard to defend Disney/Marvel because it's becoming more apparent they're prioritizing insincere and cynical pandering over good filmmaking.

Yep. You have to keep up the quality, even though, yeah, you can't control writers' and actors' strikes. I mean, you can, especially since the latest round of strikes over AI pretty much became moot when the courts found you can't copyright anything made with AI. and trolls are always going to be there.

My thing is that Norrin being the silver surfer makes sense because his character was that he wanted to explore and wasnt content with life on Zen-la but Shalla was and she empress. Norrin did it to save Zen-la and shalla but he also was able to explore other cultures.

The issue with modern Hollywood, especially the stuff under Disney, is that they use specific tricks and other underhanded approaches to get everybody’s attention instead of getting them interested. Some of them also focus on what’s controversial too much, because that makes them money sometimes. It’s like they don’t want to say too much because they’re afraid the information will make less people wanna check out the movie, whether it’s cause they don’t like how it sounds or for another reason that would cater to suits who don’t understand films; such as them wrongfully thinking knowing enough about a film and what it’s about will make an audience member find actually going to see it pointless.

Either they know exactly what they're doing and think "any traction is GOOD traction" for their media, or these people are really just this dumb. These actors get all the flame while the people that cast them get no more than a slap on the wrist.
They know damn well people are gonna be pissed then feed the actors and the actress to the mobs and no one is even hate watching the film

Silver Surfer was one of my favorites, I just can't deal with Disney anymore. They stagger from flop to flop, making obvious ideological choices to fit some narrative. I'm done with Disney's franchises.

From what I've read Iger wants Reynolds to do multiple appearances on The View that Reynolds has zero interest in, and Reynolds and Iger are battling about reshoots for the third act that Iger wants to use for extreme "woke" content that Reynolds thinks will ruin the movie. I've no problem with Pedro Pascal (other than I think he's an over rated actor) but swapping Silver Surfer for an alternate universe version would suck, mostly bc they still haven't had a successful main verse version, but bringing in the FF from another universe might work. I don't like it, but I'll hold judgement

Ok so a few doubts. There is a subtle difference between blatant gender swapping and alternate version and completely nrw character. Does shalla bal has exact same orgin story as Radd? Is it also the case in the comics. If yes, then its an alternate version where silver surfer was female. If not, nd they have done this specifically fr the MCU, then it's swapping. If it's a completely different character who has a different origin story and Radd also has a role to play in that, then it's a completely different character. So which one do u guys think it is???

Allfires had a good theory: If Shalla-Bal Silver Surfer is in the movie, that actually could mean Norran Radd is too. They are a couple, and there already were rumors about a Noran Radd version.
And it reminded me that there were also rumors that there would be multiple heralds of Galactus, so that would support this.

I don't think it's that, as much as, fans have waited for a Silver Surfer film set in the MCU for so long and after being patient we get...Female Silver Surfer. It kind of feels like Marvel/Disney just giving us the middle finger.
They had a Silver Surfer. Granted the movie wasn't the best, but he was at the very least, as good as Silver Surfer could have been at that point in movie making. I still look back on him fondly enough.

I think it's good that we aren't getting all the details of the movie before it comes out. Most of the time the trailers give out the entire plot. It makes sense that the fantastic 4 comes from a different universe. The original ant man in the mcu never mentioned them in the past
Another reason why it would a lot more advantagous to first drop a plot (under the assumption that it is a good, interesting sounding plot) is because it would made it trickier to criticize or dogpile the film, over the casting. If you are hyped over the plot and story details dropped, you will look like a fool (and worst), when you all of the sudden act like it will the worst shit ever, after the casting is announced and they have cast a black person, a woman or "imagine the horror" someone whose trans... Reasonable deniability about how it isn't about race, sex or gender goes out the window.
But by first announcing the cast, especially in cases where we have source material, you allow people to adopt a predisposition to hate your film. To be immediately extra critical of the story and act like they would have never cared and the story would always have sucked because "they were only focussing on diversity hiring" or some shit like that.
A film I personally am pretty interested in this year (though it might end up a disappointment, it is always a risk of course) is Tarot, a film that came to my attention when it was still called Horrorscope. But the basic premise of tarot cards bringing forth monsters against the cast sounded like fun to me. The suggestion that those monsters are designed by Trevor Henderson only increases my interest. But the casting, I don't really care about it, I'll see how (and who) they are when I see the film. Sell a film on story first, people.
I can understand what you say but my argument is that if there's anyone who's being toxic to the actors because they have a problem with then those people lost any and all credibility. Because anytime it sounds like that type of toxicity is valid because it harms the actors. Shouldn't the argument be that toxic people need to be deplatformed and should try our best to make the Internet a safe space? Like even if you don't valid these types of (which I know you and Benny don't) this type argument gives off the impression that you do
@@marcelinovazquez5128 While I get where you are coming from, you miss a two crucial points:
1) That these people lose all credibility to you is fine, but never think that everyone will such a high standard. If it speaks to already existing biases, it will find an audience that will validated it.
2) You can't deplatform on this large scale and making the internet a safe space is a dystopic pipedream as even with the best of intentions, you either will restrict speech to massive scale OR create a rule for thee, not me scenario (which is now already something that many have pointed out has happened.)
Why did I make the argument that I made? Not to valid toxic behavior. I don't condone it and I have unfollowed people because of it. But it can't be stopped and often it justs add fuel to fire and give them more ammo. They get emboldened, especially because those who deplatform aren't rarely as virtuous themselves as they want to portray themselves. Censoring them won't solve anything. Even if we knew where we had to draw the line between toxicity and critique (which is another issue). There are a lot of people who rather successfully would be able to manage to mask their toxicity as "just criticizing things". Many of them will act it has "nothing to do with the specific actor" but that the casting of said actor is indicative of the fact that Hollywood has "no ideas anymore" and is "phoning it in". And with only a cast list and without a plot synopsis, this isn't as hard as they again has just to point back at past "controversies"... When you never came out in favor of the plot, you can choose not to do it in the future.
But if you first release a good plot synopsis and manage to create some hype about, it is a lot harder for these people, once they are hyped to turn 180 when the casting is revealed and the races/gender don't match their expectations. To suddenly act like it is going to suck after previously being hyped about it while acting like the reason isn't racism, sexism or another form of discrimatory bias, is going to be tough. Plot quality doesn't depend on the race, sex or gender of the cast, so if it does kill your hype, you lose a lot of plausible deniability that it isn't about race or gender...
That's the point that Disney has to get in their heads.

Not all of the people who criticize Marvel and its "wokeness" are even political at this point.
Alot of them just recognize that the agenda or whatever is seemingly the main driving factor behind alot of these movies from Disney and most of the time due to that driving factor most of the movies and shows suffer tremendously.
there isn't a "main driving factor" though. It's the dying comic's industry, it's disney overvaluing their movies before they even come out, it's constant rewrites and reshoots, it's a general lack of direction, and maybe it's the general public being tired of the content mill.

The problem as I see it is that the MCU is in one of its lowest points as a franchise, and I don't think using a female Surfer (despite its presence in the comics) is a good idea right now

Well said, man. I think until Disney/Marvel gives us a majority of good stories in a Phase (not all Phase 1-3 movies knocked it out the park. Thor 2 anyone?) I will just be indifferent about their product. From Endgame to now, it's just "meh" as before it was an event to go see their movies. I could be wrong...but looking at pre-sales tickets for the last few movies and then series bombs, the vast majority of the fans are no longer wanting this. Tell a great story...no matter who is in it...and the fans will come back.
Fans just want great story from the comics and their favorite characters being them. It can’t be possibly difficult to understand what the fans want, how the hell are they struggling with blade? Just create a badass blade movie with great story and gore, with no annoying characters and no agenda added to the movie, just blade slaying vampires and being badass*
@@lordyoda9382 Agreed. We had two badass Blade movies in the 90s...and it was a great story with a ton of action/violence and blood. This was way before the MCU and other comic book movies. It worked then and will work now.

I’m actually excited for the actor who will play The Thing. He’s amazing in The Bear and the way he plays his character makes it easy for me to see how perfectly cast he is in that role. He has a rough exterior but he can play vulnerability and tenderness in a believable way.

Shalla-Bal is a pretty quick shorthand way to explain that the Fantastic 4 aren't in the setting we would otherwise expect them to be in. If this story is about them moving into the MCU, then using a different herald of Galactus than the one we're used to is a strong way to disrupt the audience sense of conviction.
It's basically using your intuition that "this isn't right" to justify the narrative that the Fantastic 4 are in the wrong place.
Kinda like how the fan response to Peter in Homecoming almost definitely led to him getting One-More-Day'd into oblivion in No Way home.

While that is true, another truth is that, these days, unlikw the old days of the mcu, people stop watching movies just from things like that.

Even of people don't like it society has a structure where the man generally provides for his wife and kids, it's a big expectation that's placed on and is on the mind of men constantly everyday, and him trying to protect/losing his family that way was a pretty big part if his character
I'm sure you can tell that story with a woman, but we can't really act likenthat isn't an aspect of his character.

The female Silver Surfer was in one what if Marvel Comic Book. She is not part of any Marvel Comic Book story line.
The Silver Surfer is my favorite character in all Marvel comics. I don't mind female versions of characters (I truly loved Jane Foster Thor), but I don't want to hear about Shalla Ball being the Silver Surfer, I want to hear the OG Norrin Radd's story!
Before anyone asks, I think Rise of the Silver Surfer was such a lame showcase of the character that I refuse to acknowledge it as a genuine depiction.

I think I read somewhere that movies that kinda spell everything out in the previews do better at the box office and in critical reviews because people know what to expect. Probably letting fans know which universe the movie is set in is a good start, so that way they won't be confused by obvious differences between it and MCU #1.

While they are on point on some topics some IMAO they go to far. I really like how you touched on facts and the point of the movie is what matters more than the actors. Like the Walking Dead. It started with a good story and later people knew and cared about the actors.

I could care less about what gender/race/ethnicity a fictional character is that has changed repeatedly over decades or centuries of existence. I only care, if I choose to watch the movie, if it's good.
Haters are always going to hate. That's what they do. Some people thrive on drama and misery. They search it out and if they don't find it, they create it. I think another problem that both companies and media don’t seem to realize is when was the last time the fantastic four done right for fans. The closest thing was the incredibles.
The only thing The Incredibles has in common with the Fantastic Four are the powersets, so no, it's not even the Fantastic Four done right for fans. Unless you wanted Mr. Fantastic as a woman, the Thing not being a rock monster, the Invisible Woman as an emo teenager, and the Human Torch's fire being replaced with superspeed or being placed in the baby with all the powers.
I hope this can clarify some things so when people say Pedro Pascal is white, what they mean is racially, he has a large percentage of European descent. He is also Latino you can be both, especially in areas like Argentina or Chile. Being Latino does not equal being brown. However, there are also people that are mixed, but appear mostly European. This is where the term white passing comes from so this is why people say Pedro Pascal is white passing. I’m not here to see if it’s right or wrong just trying to help clear some things up.
