    This is a sport that needs to be more widely known. This is an insane sport. I used to be flexible as a child, but this level of flexibility is really wow.

      These women are so insanely flexible, they easily get their feet well beyond their heads while kicking in the air so there's no stability support with a foot on the ground. I bet they could all do deep oversplits with no problems. Very impressive

      @No Fat Girls I think it speaks to the intensity. Every serve is a gamble, every return is a battle, and managing a good block takes a point. There's none of this faffing about running across the field for half of a ninety minute game. Everything feels so consequential.
      So yeah, every play in intense, and worth watching - like a continuous reel of best moments.

      i think cos everyone other than southeast asia/east asia doesn't even play it. it'd be like having american football. it'd be great to have it as one of the one-off sports if there's an olympics in SEA though.

      Olympic require certain number of country to participate its the only that this sport it lack, its not easy to play, while in South East Asian it more like traidition people just play it leisure or gambling.

      Because this sport would give asian a great advantage based on body structure, fast twicht muscles fiber and flexibility on the hip. White caucasian is more profit from sport require hard core physical strength, durability and size advantages. The perfect example is the asian dominate badminton while caucasian dominate the tennis court

      Cream Arunnopparat Yep, it’s mostly popular in SEA. I was in my school team in primary school but at the bench most of the time because I wasn’t any good lol. The ball is quite hard as well so you have to get used to it hitting you

      not really... you just have to practice muscle memory and eye coordination, you can start by playing it's Novice Version "Sipa" which is not really that different except that Sipa doesn't have boundaries like Sepak... kids in the Philippines do this for their past times to this day.
      Edit: Also Sipa doesn't use Rattan Ball like Sepak

      Sadly, that won't be the case for a good while. The commitee considers sports that are being played by 75/40 countries on 4/3 continents on a professional level for men/women respectively to be included into the olympics. Imo this is one of the most spectacular sports ever and everything in me screams that this needs to be A LOT more popular - Just imagine the things we would see if there was more competition - but we are far away from meeting those requirements. Exceptions are made however and there are different factors to be considered, but again, don't count on seeing it on a huge non-asian stage any time soon.

    Look at the adaptation right here from the Thailand team 44:53. After having been brutally stuffed by the Vietnam team's two person block at 42:15, she takes the same, obvious seeming position to spike, then does a dink instead. This sport is so insane.

    For all you guys wonder about this sports name, in VietNam we called it as “rattan ball”, or, in raw translation “cloud ball”. Rattan is kind of flexing trees, and we used them to created various type of home equipment like basket for fruit, or similar like that. The ball made from rattan is light, small but not quite hard. It suited with south asian people: kind of small, not so strong but skillful. And I’m happy to see you guys loved it!

      Not exactly like volleyball, players are able to touch it more then once, using every body part but your hands or arms, players have another to serve, but it has basic vb rules like in and out, limited to 3 touches a side, and stuff like that.

      Well the reason this sport is not that popular is because most men can't ever play it. Men are not flexible enough to "spike" the ball. And I'm pretty sure there aren't even that many women who are flexible enough to do it. It's a hard sport is what I'm trying to say.

      You obviously never been in Brazil and seen them play footvolley. Here the net is at 120cm. In footvolley it's on 220cm. This is really child's play game compared to footvolley.

    This sport is just incredible to watch. The precision, timing, athleticism, and concentration needed to play this sport makes these players some of the absolute best in the world. Probably the main reason that this sport is not more widely played around the world is that the level of difficulty is too much for other athletes.

    I was born in Thailand so I had an opportunity to grow up around this sport with friends and cousins. I gotta tell ya it’s really hard to master the sport and let alone play it. The ball is hard and you have to be very fast and flexible.

      Apparently their male counterparts are even more skilled and matches are crazier. (Only saying this from comments I read here) but I've seen some play before, but not on a professional level like here. The pace was so much faster.

      Look at her vertical jump. Several times she got her feet well above the bottom of the net with straight legs (like a vertical jump), so she is jumping at least 0.8 meters (31 inches) in the air if not more!

      There actually is a more popular version called footvolley - which is beach volleyball played with a regulation size ball. It's mainly played in Brazil but there are also teams in other countries including the US

    I lived in a Muay thai school in Thailand.
    I passed by some uni students playing, asked if I could join in, Thai people are always happy and welcoming.
    Now I have done Martial Arts my whole life but quickly learned I was out of my depth, was fun all the same.

      Most people can’t do lots of other competitive sports too yet they’re popular. I could equate this to combat sports and gymnastics. There are lots of not well known sports around the world. It’s all about how people invest money into the sport to promote it and it also comes with time.
