  • Squier Sonic Mustang neck and neck with the top Fender Mustang of all time .. the 1969 Fender Competition Mustang (Kurt Cobain model)!!!
    The comparison is awesome. Both models weigh close to the same, and both play great. Jeremy Messenger, recording artist (Oklahoma, Brooklyn) takes you through a review using a cheap 50 dollar amp , no effects to get a raw comparison.

    Yes it’s weird, it was my dads guitar when I was growing up. I feel fender really hit a home run. Cool look, cool sound, plays easier than a strat, also came with straight saddles on bridge with a cool whammy. Jaguar and jazzmaster originally had lots of problems, mostly the noise of the jazzmaster pickups,weight of the Jaguar and the saddles where the strings always slipped out. So the Mustang had no problems, it was a home run. They actually put mustang bridges on jaguars to fix jaguar problem 😂 so it’s a great guitar, I love all the fenders but Mustang , especially the new sonic really hits the right vibe , extremely inexpensive and a good solid guitar 🎸

    I just ordered one in the same colour as my first electric guitar (coming from acoustic Eastman PCH). I tried the Squier telecaster too and an Ibanez AS53 (335 clone). Both had not that easy playing and vibe the mustang has (allthough they are both great guitars too). I agree with you it's a new classic.

      Im a beginner with 4 months in learning. I held quite a few guitars, one of them was a bullet mustang. It was just great, it is super light, 24" scale really helped with stretching out those newbie fingers, no finger pain etc. I remember just chord changing (A, E, Em, Am, C, G etc) and i looked at the time and 50 mins went by and i never got tired or soar from playing. Sadly that particular guitar has issues so i returned it with a refund. I am seriously looking into the sonic mustang right now.

      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +1

      Yes, I bought a red one as well, I’m really in love with these guitars , for the price point , advanced players can not have to fork out 1700 dollars , you can really add a fun guitar to your collection for a low amount of money , have a great week thanks so much

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem

      I’m not sure what issues it had. Any guitar can have issues. I feel the sonic has upgraded major flaws the bullet had. 12 inch radius, not a flaw but 9.5 is way better and more solid for playing. Also the bullet went out of tune a lot , sonic tuners seem better , bridge also sucks on the bullet , intonation on low e couldn’t line up the saddles wouldn’t work , it hit the saddle. So sonic needs some 1000 grit sanding on back on neck, tighten truss abit , and may have to lower a few saddles. But mention this to the fender dealer u buy from , sometimes they offer a free setup. Have them do it , you can lightly sand any rough spots on back of neck yourself. Hope that helps , have a great weekend

      @@JeremyMessengerReviews Sadly that Mustang i had had noise crackling from both pots, despite the wiring looking alright and some cleaning. The Frets were really badly unpolished (brand new out of the box guitare) and for some reason the neck pickup was just dominating the bridge, even when lowered (height wise). I had it for about 2 weeks and it stayed in tune, but since i ordered it online, i had a no hassle 30 day return policy. There is another online shop that actually inspects and setup new guitars before they are sent, i may go to them instead. The closest music shop that has such guitars are sadly 3+ hours away.

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +2

      Ya , they were the cheaper ones. The cheapest was the bronco. Mustang 1969 actually had 7.5 radius neck to. I like the light weight and look and playability. Fender jaguar I like , but weight is heavy and sound is not as good as Mustang I found 🙏

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem

      Yes , it’s weird. Strats weren’t popular in 1967. Jazzmaster and jaguar were top. But , as time went .. strat, Mustang, tele, became the better choice 🙌

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +1

      Yes, it’s really light. But neck is solid. Bridge is also good. And tuners aren’t bad. So I think it’s great 👍 I have sunburst and red ones. Make sure you send a pic if you get one. Sand back of neck with 1000 grit it will help smooth out any rough spots

      @@JeremyMessengerReviews always the same dilemma with these cheap guitars though, every £/$ I have to spend on making it playable is a £ I could have put towards a better guitar. BUT there's not a lot out there with the Mustang shape at that price point.

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +2

      If you see the video , you can see, it didn’t need much setup. So test it. Action can be lowered , but pickups are good, playability not an issue, once you tighten truss rod, intonation , and lower a couple of saddles it’s good. This is best, weight is less than competition 69 mustang

      Watch the first review of the sound in first unmodded one. Squier sonic without new pickups wouldn’t be close 😂 it’s got cheap pickups, so if you want a review that’s accurate that’s what I did. Pros can do this like myself, but if you want to use it as a beginner model go at it, but don’t compare an American 4000 usd to a 189 usd
      There’s no comparison! But you do what I did for 200 more usd , than it’s close .. appreciate your comment. Always glad to here from you

      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +1

      Hi, I just got the red one as well . If you are planning on adding a 3rd pickup in mid positioning, then get a mustang Pickguard and add 2 3 way switches. The pearloid I added was from Amazon under acoustic guitar pearloid decal. You put it over your existing picguaurd and cut with scissors and sand.. I’ll post another mod with red one as is and modded with 3 pickups before and after soon 👌

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +1

      I got off Amazon it’s a pearloid acoustic guitar slab , I cut it out and then peeled attached to original pickup and sanded around it. It cost 8 usd. So again , I want to help everyone out.. why spend 30 usd even you can do it yourself for 8. It takes sometime , do while you watch tv , but I’m proud to do and pass info to you guys .. once you cut size around original one make it abit bigger around and sand . This way it looks better

    Hey, looks nice. Does the neck feel more substantial on these than the Bullets? I sold my Bullet partly because the neck was thin and seemed to flex. You said it was wider, but how deep is it?

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +1

      That’s the best question .. yes neck is solid, I got rid of my bullet, same reason. 12 inch radius and neck was cheap. So I’m planning on getting a 2nd one of these! This time I’m keeping original pickups and adding a 3rd in mid position with a slider and on off on for reverse phase in mid pickup. I love having a great guitar! But I love not spending much to do it.

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +1

      Neck is way better. Bullet had thin crappy neck and bad bridge . These new ones are good and neck being 9.5 radius is similar to original mustang

    • @JeremyMessengerReviews
      @JeremyMessengerReviews  Před rokem +1

      Neck is same to me as fender mustang, just a mili touch wider , I didn’t measure on video I should have, it’s a minor difference but it’s really nice , certainly not a knock .. the original mustangs in 1960s early 70s necks were a bit narrower but this neck is real close .

      The original neck on 1969 mustang was 7.5 radius , you can see in vid, 1969 one is smaller neck .. but Squier is nice.. both bodies are similar in size. The made in Indonesia one is Squier I have, it’s nice and light . Apparently the made in China has fatter body. It’s good but wider body , so get the made in Indonesia one, the bodies are real close to original.. hope that’s helpful 🙏
