Improving Driver Rating in Gran Turismo 7

  • The start of my plan to improve my DR. I'm currently "D" which isn't who I really am as a driver. I've come up with a systematic approach:
    1. Do (or redo) the Circuit Experience
    2. Practice with the car you'll race
    3. More practice with the car you'll race
    4. Get lucky that no one will punt you.
    5. Grind away!

Hey KYBO. I stumbled across this video, and wouldn't you know it, I am Big Daddy lol. This was back in one of my first few times ever racing in sport mode. Maybe my 2nd or 3rd time.
I don't recall to much, but I promise you, I never attempted anything malicious towards you. I remember commiting to pass, and seeing that other car lose it on the other side of you. We just both ran out of "real estate" so to speak, and I did bump into you. I backed off after the bump. I started up front in this race from a decent qualifying time, but guys got very assy and bumped me around. They only care about winning the first lap like you mentioned. Win at all costs. It's like they think it's NASCAR and with the bump and run on every corner 🙄
I did end up leaving the race, and I was ignorant at the time about how that affects driver ratings. Man I must've quit half a dozen races simply over all the jerks that just thrash around trying to ruin it for everybody else.
I've learned a great deal since that time. I use a g923 Logitech racing wheel and drive in VR. I avoided sport mode for a few months until I built confidence up to compete legitimately. I start in the back with no qualifying time, and I only make it a point to finish better than I started. It's helped a great deal on improving safety and driver rating. Let everybody else crash in the first few turns, get them spread out, and pick them off 1 at a time. Just being in their rear view, they'll make a mistake from feeling the pressure, and usually send it off into a wall lol.
    Happy hunting my friend

I’m right there with you. I was a D, had a couple of first place finishes that bumped me to C, then had a couple of bad races that slammed me back to D.
I always qualify in the top third, but come race time, I get bumped, don’t know how to properly recover, and end up finishing near the bottom.

These kids get on there and they don't care about race etiquette at all. They don't know how and when to pass the right way. They can dive bomb into a turn, hit you and take you out, and in doing so, that slows them down enough to rotate through the turn. I qualified up in the front of this race here. Obviously faster than those behind me. And that's how they get around you. It's not because they're faster.

3:17 I’m an A/S driver and I can’t stress how important it is, as you said here, to race the track and not necessarily the other drivers. I literally tell myself to “race my own race” constantly, and to that point, race smoothly and in control. You only go 100% during qualifying and (maybe) the last lap. Otherwise, you go 90-95% in races so you avoid the penalties, mistakes, and crashes that come from over-driving. By not pushing and settling into a rhythm, you’re likelier to find your pace and go faster than you otherwise would by “trying” to beat other drivers. When defending, you especially drive your own race, except at 85-90%. Park your car on the apex no matter how frustrated the driver behind gets. By racing your race, you’ll throw them off their rhythm while ensuring that you never make mistakes or get penalties. Until you get to top-of-B/A lobbies, all you need to do well is survive. Most drivers will take themselves out for you.

this is fine and dandy if you're D,C, or E rated driver in those races. when you're B and A there's way less mistakes made by drivers. your strategy will only work on lower lever DR races

I take a break in the summer too. Don't force it. Race again when you're ready.

I'm a B,S rank but don't do the dailies anymore for this reason. Sick of being smashed off just so someone can get 9th place, or whatever

Its amusing how dirty some drivers are to get 9th in a daily.

I'm not great myself, but even I can see you're not using anywhere near the full width of the track to maintain speed. Remember: out-in-out.

    • @Kybo.Racing
      @Kybo.Racing  Před 3 měsíci

True. This is something I'm working on. The increased speed due to good exit is far greater than a little extra speed through the corner.
