With a population of 4131, North Wilkesboro is the original home of Lowe's Home Improvement and one of the birthplaces of stock car racing due to its history of distilling and running moonshine, and the now-resurgent North Wilkesboro Speedway, the first ever NASCAR-sanctioned race track.
It's a quiet Wednesday afternoon just before Memorial Day as the town prepares for the return of NASCAR racing to it's famous Speedway after an absence of 27 years. Today is the calm before the storm in its quaint downtown!
