What prepared citizen is doing recon during shtf? Or before hand. Idk where all this patrolling stuff comes from with civilians or veterans. patrolling or recon only works because you’re doing it as a fire team or a squad. Other than that you’re just going to die.

I’m not a hunter but I’ve done plenty of hiking and exploring off trails to find other connections points or water, I’ve explored abandoned places that are watched over and I always use bad weather to my advantage cause from my experience people say they are outdoorsy but a lot aren’t willing to get wet or dirty and go out in the subzero temps, I do more exploring in cold weather and rain cause no one will be out, and I’m always wearing camo and I like to use foliage shoved in my hat or clothes, and when using open roads I stay near the side so if I see or hear a vehicle I can pop in the bush quick, that actually saved me from being caught a couple times haha, I’m not military but I’m glad I’ve always used militaristic tactics

I'm a huge Field manual nerd. I feel we often just try to learn from our immediate peers and forget we had a lot of hard men establish doctrine that works through sweat and blood.
So, here's some resources related to this subject:
    SH 21-76
    ATP 3-20.98
    ATP 3-21.8
    TC 3-22.10
    TC 3-21.60
    TC 3-25.26
    The Fieldcraft Book by Skaggs
Special Reconnaissance and Advanced Small Unit Patrolling by Wolcoff
Some of these can be found for free online. They don't all directly touch on recon, but they have relevant information like how to properly camouflage, patrol, use hand and arm signals, read a map and land navigate.
Also, I don't always think military publications are the only source of knowledge. For instance hunting books can teach a lot on the fieldcraft necessary for reconnaissance. Back in the day most recon/snipers were picked due to their hunting background.
Lastly, you can read all you want, but you need to apply it all. So, get out there and have fun.

    • @STOKERMATIC
      @STOKERMATIC  Před rokem

I know your terrain is much different than mine - so bushwhacking may not be advisable - but still need some routes off road.
For urban take a map and go through your AO again czcams.com/video/irlCAY6A13s/video.html
Bounce off of known activity, historical and current.
For area recon specifically- same principles apply (urban or rural) Use a dog leg to OP - have multiple egress routes. Observe from concealed position but not from obvious position. Use alt concealed route to return.
In urban AO, routes may not be concealed, so move through streets in similar manner - from position to position. From insertion point to a coffee shop. Sit. Drink. Observe. Move a few blocks and read a paper - use SLLS. Move to final OP and make sure there is a purpose for your being there. You can’t stand out as that guy.
No flustered movements. No stimuli given that’s rememberable. You have to keep your head on a swivel, but not so much or in a way that makes it apparent your concerned.

    Three thoughts so far.
    1. Man I always wanted a German sheppard. Ever since I was a boy I wanted one. How now I'm a grown ass man and I still can't have one. My wife works with animals for a living, and she's forbid a German sheppard. (I'll keep working on it i guess)
    2. Just my opinion, but as an individual, the government uses you like a tool until your no longer of any use. Then your discarded. Tossed out quicker then a used rubber in a Korean Cathouse. In just 4 years of active duty, my hospital record was as thick as a phone book. I took the advice of some senior NCO's. Went to the base hospital, signed my records out, left the building with them even though i wasn't supposed to, and photocopied the entire fucking thing. Then returned it. (how now I can't find my copy of my medical records).... On a personal note, it took me at least a decade to sort my head out after I left active. I probably needed counseling. However, Air force? Minus 50 cool points. Pre911 service? minus another 50 cool points.
    3. It's interesting seeing the level of training get in areas that were cursory to me. As an Engineer, my training was primarily around building, defending, and recovering air bases. Defensive postures mostly. The most aggressive things we did was convoy defense and tactics, and sweep and clear as part of Base Recovery After attack ( aka BRAT). Even though i've experience as a hunter, in a hostile environment, any basic grunt level training would probably own my shit. Always have to keep ones attitude and ego in check. I'd rather overestimate someones abilities then underestimate them.

VA has a lot of vets they care for. Unfortunately as large as it is its not enough. Most of the system takes good care of us. Still their are those that really need lots of work. I wish it we're Veterans care professionals taking care of us vets like they did when we we're still in service. Unfortunately they turned this job over to the medical universities. We need doctors and nurses with military experience caring for us, not interns and students. We are not experiments. We are veterans.

Ever been to Stokesdale, NC? My advice is don't drink and drive. Unless that was water in your flask and you were spending the night. Here's my observation; veteran's are neglected and shit on. Used an abused. Somthing positive? Be supportive of each other. Hey, if you want Riggs to be quieter try making more noise than him. i.e., when he barks, or whines, shake a soda pop can with pennies or a rattle and have a hand sign (maybe squeeze hand?) and command...like quite..then his favorite treat. Some dogs are vocal at off times because they haven't been trained for whatever 'mission '. Focus his attention. It's time consuming to train a dog but remember, get him to where he wants to please you and you have alpha status because you have the f'n bacon!😎🇺🇸 Or, maybe hold him like a hug. Dogs can be taught to sneak around to 'hunt' on command. Moving through a contentesd area or reconnaissance is a pretty hard skill to learn from videos. Much more difficult without an 'opposing ' force. Thanks for making the video.
