Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023) - Movie Review

- Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a slasher spin on the beloved children's property. I was hoping this would lean into the silliness and deliver some campy fun but it was just gross & mean-spirited.

Their first instinct being to eat Eeyore is darkly funny. I imagine him saying "No Pooh Bear don't eat me" in his depressed voice before they ate him.
Nah, he was always ready to go.
"Well, I suppose....if you must.... Some of us stay, some of us die. That's just the way life goes😮💨"
I would have eaten his depressing ass too🤣🤣
😂😂😂
It is a bear so
Eeyore would have been the slowest and easiest to kill.
That aspect does sound hilarious. It really sucks they didn’t go with that tone because it would’ve been very fun if they did.
It’s so upsetting how much of a missed opportunity this was. Prime example of what happens when you take a ridiculous concept too seriously.
This would have been garbage regardless
@@aranighosh3945 guess its a YMMV kind of thing. I for one love really campy stupid low budget horror that is all about being fun and absurd. But its pretty insufferable when filmmakers take a good goofy camp concept and play it super straight.
I think the makers of this movie and future projects in a similar vein are the true definition of hacks. They’re not talented enough to make good original horror films, so they’re just preying on properties about to enter the public domain and capitalizing on that. It’s a smart business strategy but it’s already a tired trend and very uncreative
Good thing we didn't ask you clown
Stretching a 90-minute movie out of what is, at best, a parody trailer for SNL is doomed from the start. Novelty wears off around the 5 minute mark.
Man, it would’ve been cool if they had Piglet and Pooh have their voices and then have them say cheesy shit like “oh bother, what a waist of good honey.” Or have Piglet stutter out of fear every single time he kills someone because he’s not used to taking human lives.
Yeah I feel like piglet would be more nervous but if or when they include tigger I have a feeling he would be a absolute madman and might enjoy it a bit too much and would almost treat the victims like pray and predator
Jim Cummings (who has been the current voice of Pooh for many years) greatfully & wisely declined that job offer & refused to have Pooh's voice & image be ruined all at once.
@@keshiaanders6452 Yeah if I was the voice of many generations of Pooh, I wouldn’t want my name attached to this either. I mean the guy was my Winnie The Pooh. I wouldn’t know how to feel if he actually said yes to this crap.
@@DoctorSpectre9781 come on you guys are no fun that b pretty dope 🤣🤣
They probably couldn’t do it so that they can avoid a lawsuit or legal litigations by Disney.
"Putting a honey pot on someone's head and smashing it."
You have better ideas for dark-humor Winnie-the-Pooh kills than this movie did.
They should have nailed a tail on someone
I laughed hysterically when you said they were starving and ate Eeyore😂. I just was not expecting that.
Well it is a bear and a tiger and piglet is too small not much of a meal anyway so a depressed donkey will do
the best part about that is that they weren't trying to be funny
You usually tell us when there are spoilers!
I stopped watching after you said they ate Eeyore!
Lol! Me too! I was taking a drink and spit it out. That is just hilariously dark, and like you, was not expecting that.
It's also very stupid (and not the funny kind)
.😑
1.) They could've forge their own food for corn sake!
Their favorite foods are common in the forest (honey, acorns, thistles, berries, roots, seeds, etc.), and Rabbit is a gardener/farmer who grows his own salad bar every day.
2.) Pooh, Piglet, and Eeyore are plush animals, not real ones. They can go for hours & days without food.
And Eeyore is stuffed with sawdust, eating him would basically be the same as eating a sand bag.
3.) Way to insult a child's imagination & innocence saying that the plush toys & wild animals they've befriended with were just pookas/hobgoblins this whole time.
4.) Since when is going farrel result in gaining stereotype lumberjack hillbilly bodies and ugly rubber mask-like heads?
Again, plushies don't go farrel unless they were possessed by demons/ghosts/any other supernatural being, and technically Rabbit & Owl were already wild animals despite being portayed as intelligent & sophisticated.
You know you've done something wrong when even the "kiddy" characters have more intelligence than your versions.🤦🏼♀️
I've had no interest in this film, but ive had MAJOR interest in the reviews haha
Same here, same with the Grinch horror film.
Lol same!
Me too. I honestly thought this was a joke when it first was mentioned. But, no, it's all too real 😒
There's nothing better than vicariously experiencing a terrible movie's shittiness... Especially when the critic has Cody's style!
Yeah I'm intrigued why somebody would create this but I would not dare watch this, because I would not want to ruin my childhood.
Thank you for sitting through this for us man. Your earned my subscription
Same! I rely on Cody's reviews for all horror movie related content regardless of the quality of the movie. Thanks Cody!
I just don't understand why they took this so seriously. If they had gotten really wacky with it, it probably would've still been bad, but at least it would be fun to watch. I wouldn't have even watched the movie but my girlfriend really wanted to see it. She hated it too so that's nice 😂
In the comment sections on the review videos there are loads of great ideas on stuff they could have done with this idea. If even a fraction of them had been used in the movie, we would have gotten something dark and hilarious.
This has already made over 18 times its budget in theaters. Looks like a straight to Tubi release to me.
I would avoid it immediately.
This should’ve been on tubi. It felt like a bargain-bin movie
Ironically, if you've watched more movies from the production company that made this, Blood And Honey is actually the best slasher they've made.
Damn, really?
@@kainkong274 Yup. Look up Doctor Carver, the Curse Of Humpty Dumpty, and Jack Frost to see how bad it can get.
@@JoelKellenProductions yikes! Thx for telling me tho
@@JoelKellenProductions I'd argue Jack Frost is a much better film than this. They actually had fun with the concept and did some unique things with it.
In the words of Cody, respect all opinions, but I don't get it whatsoever.
That "Here's a nice piece of shit" was great! 😆
Trueee 😂
It's Pooh 💩
What movie is that btw?
@@MaxNeugebauer. Billy Madison
"Out of desperation, they eat Eeyore."
I was taking a drink when you said that and literally spit it out I was laughing so hard 🤣
It really shouldn't be that hard to make a good slasher with beloved childhood characters
But, I'll still probably watch this film when it hits streaming because I'm genuinely curious and it's something that's been on my radar since it was announced
I won't lie, I'd still watch this too.
Same. More like a “so bad you have to see it” type of thing.
@@rachaelanastazia3641 I watched it now and I honestly think it wasn't that bad
It's definitely a laughable horror movie but it isn't as bad as Cody or people have made it out to be (hell, I'm actually interested to see what the sequel does)
@@zacharyrosemannthe movie was the definition of dog shit, this move was like a parody to a bad parody
That tweet did maybe give us hope that this movie was their rough draft. Maybe with “5x the amount of profit” they’ll get something going. Love your clap back 🤣
You have to admit that whoever did poohs voice has to have props given to him
He doesn't talk??
He just had one line, two words.
I have to give props to the guy who did the opening narration. He sounded just like Malcolm McDowell
@@AC-bg4cs Which said...?? I watched the movie but couldn't tell....
@@yourworldsavingsdotcom6065 all he said was "You left"
Already 4 seconds in the video, and I know this review is gonna be fun.
EDIT: Also I heard that the reason Tigger isn't in this movie because he hasn't enter Public Domain yet. He will in January of next year.
Maybe at least we'll get a cool BOING kill I'm the sequel.
Yeah, only the first book recently hit public domain. That one didn't have all the characters in it yet, so they child only pull from that original cast.
Yeah that's why it was only Pooh and Piglet none of the others are public domain yet
Tigger is in public domain now
@@scbb92I thought they just didn't have the budget for Rabbit, Owl and Eeyore costumes. I mean if THAT was the best they could do for their title character, would they be able to afford anything else?
Goddamnit, I was really hoping this was gonna be the perfect “fun bad”😭😭
We need a horror cinematic universe with all the slasher killers and Cody needs to be the James Gunn or Kevin feige of that universe 💪🏼🤘🏼
It's just Friday The 13th but Jason went on vacation and hired Winnie The Pooh of all people to take his place
😂
I love that you used Cody and Noel’s clip to describe the Eeyore scene 😂
Hey I think a Peter Pan horror adaptation could be entertaining lol
But Cody’s reviews are always 💯
I mean the original story leans a bit horror anyway.
that sound bite clip from Noel Miller and Cody Ko killed me 😂 fits perfectly didn’t think Cody knew who those guys were
My favorite line in the film:
Girl one: There’s psychos out there chasing us
Girl two: They must’ve been the ones who wrote this (GET OUT) on our windows
Dammit! I'm depressed now 😔 Was really hoping this would be some campy fun
Cody, ya have me laughing nonstop from you cracking up describing the film and sharing your pain😂😂😂
Lol I sorta knew where this was going when it was announced but I was AT LEAST hoping the kills were good and the concept was interesting to me, taking children's IP and twisting it into a horror film is interesting to me. Glad you suffered thru this for us Cody 😂
It's interesting if the writers make the story comedic and over the top. These idiots keep making the same mistake. Taking an absurd concept and making it way too serious.
@@KB-bh9hp 💯💯!!
You'd think they'd at least take advantage of the fact that Winnie is a god damn bear and have him maul someone with his claws and teeth
I mean he kinda did when he slapped the one hillbilly's face off
I've heard of hate watching, but you make a good point about how many people are going to see movies just because it's their job. I'd never really thought of it like that.
Lol you act like it’s a common profession
@@nobodiesaltbutmine6674 not so uncommon anymore... The internet and CZcams leveled the reviewing ground significantly
I went in with very low expectations and had fun with the movie. My partner and I were in the back of the theatre with nobody near and were free to MST3K the movie with each other in whispers. Perfect movie for that kind of party.
Side question: where'd you get that amazing Jason shirt??
This is a classic case of just because you can make something doesn’t always mean you should.
Yes i agree.
I said this before, but this was some seriously missed opportunity. My mind goes back to the Banana Splits movie and how tongue in cheek it was. They did have some emotional serious moments, granted, but the Banana Splits themselves had some really strong personalities. As cheep as it felt, I like to go back to it quite a bit because it's an enjoyable kind of ridiculous. This doesn't really go anywhere very exciting. It's just bad; not insultingly bad, just really dull and uncreative aside from that intro. Pooh's Grand Adventure was a better Pooh horror movie, to come to think of it. I think it would have been better if it paid more homage to the Pooh cartoons; that could have been a lot more fun. On top of that, make it more the length of a cartoon episode so there's none of that filler. Not only is "Spring Break Gone Wrong" a cliche setup for a horror movie, but I have to wonder what it has to do with the Pooh lore. Maybe have it instead be about Christopher Robin sacrificing people to the animals. Yeah, that's cliche too, but it'd be more bearabl... oh bother... now this movie is driving me to puns...
MEGAN Unrated is streaming Feb 24th!
OH I’M HELLA EXCITED!
this would've worked so much better if Pooh, Tigger etc were actually walking, talking bipedal animals that Christopher looked after and then disregarded. It would've made sense when Pooh said "you left". But instead, we got a man wearing a Winnie the Pooh mask
😂😂
I gotta tell ya tho Codes, your reviews where you rant the whole time are so entertainjng😂😂
OMG. So I found a clip of the animated sequence at the beginning, and they DESTROY their entire plot in the first two minutes. They claim that Pooh and the rest are a bunch of half-breed mutants, and that they grow with Christopher Robin after he befriends them in the woods. Then, after Pooh and the gang kill and eat Eeyore, they all decide never to talk again. So these mutants grew and developed alongside Christopher, could talk, but never learned how to dial a phone? Or to write a letter? Of course they could, Rabbit used to write the names of his vegetables all the time, and Owl was even smarter! Had Christopher gone off to college, these animals would have certainly known how to either call or write to him to let them know that they needed help, and thus, this plot would not have occurred. I think Disney needs to take back their power and make a dark fantasy horror movie that will really do justice to this story and do it correctly. Not saying that Disney always does that, but they definitely have the power and money to do it, and they know (based on the interest in this film) that a lot of people would watch it.
You can just smell the cash grab from here. I was hoping this movie would (at the very least) be fun. I’ll save my money for Cocaine Bear.
When you said fuck This movie I laughed so damn hard 🤣
Creators who say things like "well it's making money, so who cares?" are scum. Creators who take time and effort into any of their projects are cool. I would recommend The Mean One, because they had fun making it, and didn't take it seriously.
Peter Pan would be interesting considering the OG story had some moments, mentioning how Peter thins out the Lost Boys when they get old enough and just the factor of him kidnapping the Darlings. Also Pirates haven't been scary in ages, so it would be nice.
Bambi and the horror of nature would be cool too...
But let's face it that they probably wouldn't do either concept the creative justice of could be given.
I didn't plan on watching Blood and Honey anyway, disappointing time and effort was wasted on it.
The only character I felt really bad for was Alice, she was the only one of the girls who at least tried something and killed Piglet…but yeah Winnie came 😩
You hit the nail right on the head. I still feel dirty for being one of those morbid curiosity suckers who sat through this lame excuse for a movie.
In the filmmakers' defence, technically they couldn't use Tigger because of copyright issues.
Bro I just found your channel, have been watching all your videos since yesterday. love your content.

@@ENT8801 So true brother.
Welcome aboard!
@@CodyLeachYT Just love the way you roast movies and TV shows specially Dexter's last few seasons.
Love watching your reviews, cody!
I said Nightmare 5 was the worst horror film, I changed my mind, THIS IS.
I still might check it out on streaming or something, but I heard that the director said the sequel is going to have 5 times the budget. Do you think it’ll have a possibility of being better with more money to play around with?
Budget of course always helps but I won't be watching any more of their films.
Aww, I was looking forward to this, for its pure z list craziness. I liked the idea that some kid had recklessly created this whole world and neglected it until the residents became resentful and murderous, but it sounds like it's not like that, it's a shame because the whole children story aspect has a whole lot of opportunities to turn very dark very quickly (Peter Pan kidnapping kids, Stockholm syndrome abound then killing them off when they come of age or the Bambi revenge slasher) they could have gone z list huge with this.
The actors spoke the script "with all the passion of a phone salesman outlining contract options" - The Guardian 🤣
For everybody that remember the beginning of Bambi, it's already a horror movie 😵💫Just like the (1988) movie The bear that traumatize me, I don't even remember how these movies end. 😩
Sorry you had to watch this. If I had the burden to make this movie, I would have it be Winnie the Pooh be the victim instead of the killer. Innocent childhood character getting attacked by a serial killer and the police don’t help him because he’s a literally bear.
Great review! And im TIRED of filmmakers thinking that mean-spirited, super sadistic dreck makes for a good quality horror film. Like what that hack David Gordon green did with Halloween Kills and H Ends!
i’ve read he originally had a much better concept but had to scrap the script due to copy right :/ he couldn’t use any elements from disneys, just from the novel. still i expected sm more
I thank you for watching this for your viewers i hope you can take some comfort in knowing your review was more enjoyable than the actual film. Unfortunately because of them already getting about 2 million at the box office that puts it at over two dozen times the budget so its a huge investment return. Those sequels are happening 😬😬😬
I bet Disney wants to find a way to sue. Also how dare they do this and not make it campy.
Where was my Pooh Bear making honey from human corpses!?!?!? Walking in I honestly expected that. The irony of impossibly making honey from humans because Pooh is starving in a 1,000 acre woods filled with trees that actually make honey 🤷 thought that would be fun to see, and still want to see that lol
The way this got a theatrical release and Prey didn't like....
I'm telling ya. This movie has no business being in theaters imo.
Hello Cody, they did not confirm a sequel and the other movies because of the virality on the internet. This film has already been released in some countries like Mexico, it has been here for almost 3 weeks and it did well at the box office.
Fair enough
😂 ah, I needed a classic Cody Leach rant this morning. Thank you! Across the board, ALL movie studios need to put in more effort.
The best part is the animated opening.
It's having a popular Horror CZcams channel it's both a blessing and a curse
The fact that they actually took this seriously is just... why? Also, why was it only Pooh and Piglet?
I think it’s because the other characters aren’t public domain yet by next year they should be public domain so in the sequel expect more characters lmao
I was pleasantly surprised to see cody and Noel pop up in this.
So another words we all should get stoned as hell and watch this while taking nothing seriously 🤣🤣
Jeepers Creepers 3 should have never been made as well. That POS should be in jail or 6feet under
2 Missed opportunities:
Christopher Robin's character should have been an animal abuser/bully that went into the woods and repeatedly tortured & punished Pooh, Piglet etc. which slowly makes them go crazy leading to them killing Christopher Robin gruesomely then moving on to other humans etc.
After his first kill Blood becomes Poohs new "honey" and leads to an exploitation like kill where he stuffs his hand in/up a female victims "honey pot" pulls out her insides coated in blood eats it and says his line "A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside."
Or something like that.
Hey Cody, what’s the title of the latest Jordan Peele film?
Cody: 0:03
Saw this coming from miles away, I swear "mainstream" horror fans get hyped for the worst things..
I hope the next Pooh horror movie will be more polished with higher budget.
This is best review of the year I couldn't stop laughing thank you for saving most of us money
I had to smoke a lot of weed to get through this drek. They should have made this an animated film and really leaned into the fairytale aspect of it. A gang of feral Forest creatures coming out of the tree line and the fog in a swampy wooded setting. It could have been done so well. Like the last comment said, this was such a missed opportunity.
Can’t believe I paid 18 bucks to see this movie. At least I had some good laughs 😂
I actually thought they wrote "Eeyore" in to windows in blood.
If they went feral, then why do they still wear clothes, walk on two legs, use human tools, etc.?
Great review! Tbh I was just confused about why they didn't just go out to steal food when they could go out to kill people. The animations were pretty good, they should have just kept to that and made a short, demented film or something.
Maybe....just maybe....deep down they'd wanted to kill Eeyore all along. They just needed an excuse. Then once they had gotten a taste for blood it was impossible for them to stop.
Nah, seriously, I'm with you. That part made no sense.
So from what i understand some of the characters like Tigger are still under copyright since they werent from the original book and only the stuff from the original book is in the public domain. So anything that was made for the Disney version these guys cant do
Sad thing is, way back in the day, people did write horror fanfic of Winnie the Pooh. And even with my muggy memory of them, they had so much more creativity than this
7:18 the only reason i can think of for that is i believe that a lot of the winnie the pooh characters are still under some sort of copyright. i think that winnie the pooh & piglet are 2 of the only characters that aren’t under any kind of copyright laws. but i’ll admit it would’ve been fun to see more of them there
Honestly if they don’t do anything better with the sequel I really hope someone else picks it up since it’s public domain and does something actually interesting with Winnie The Pooh horror/ slasher same with other kids properties and properties in general, we need more horror like this… but better
I just think they had no money to really make a good movie
@@keldorthebluemack There are lots of low budget horror movies that are well made. Having no budget doesn’t excuse the continuity errors, terrible acting and awful cinematography
They could have really played on the mental illness of the characters to make them unique in their kills example...
Winnie has a eating disorder = cannibalism
Tigger Adhd = crazy knifeman
Pigglet anxiety = stealth kills
I went to theatres yesterday and had a good time, but its not for everyone. Thanks for the review Cody.
*psst* I liked it too, made me laugh a lot, kills were good, it's a fun movie. The haters are scaring me more than the movie ngl 😆😆 I'm excited for part 2 and I hope we get Tigger is in it when that character becomes "public domain". Makes me kinda sad that haters are trying to prevent this universe from happening. I think it'll be fun.
@@Calebchads I'm so glad someone else agrees. I'm looking forward to whatever else comes next.
the only good thing about this movie is that pooh can control bees.
Yeah...bees obscured in crushing darkness lol
I think the concept would make two good movies. 1) A feral cast of animals in the style of the movie Cocaine Bear dark and visceral 2) a ridiculous puppet murdering romp in the style of Toy story meets tucker and Dale and lots of nods to the cartoons and jokes aplenty. I’m picturing Piglets high voice being all sinister and threatening.
I don't agree but I totally respect that opinion
it was a pretty dam good watch. Surprised me. Surprised me a lot.
Watched it 2 times to let it sink in.
It was like a mixture of other horror movies ideas all put into this. HALLOWEEN , HOSTEL and SAW comes to mind. 👍🏾🤟
100% agree.
I was SHOCKED watching this movie. It was way better than expected. It was creepy, disturbing and the actors were not bad at all. In my opinion,if you let go of the whole Pooh idea this is a pretty solid and vicious slasher. I have seen MUCH worse
This was just such a missed opportunity they could have really leaned into the ridiculousness of this idea and just really let loose with it but they didn't they took it dead seriously they couldn't even get voice actors for Pooh and piglet
Fully agree with your review, Cody. At the very least a low budget movie can always afford a decent story.
Cody: don’t give blood and honey your money!
Blood and honey: *makes 2.5 million dollars*
Well that aged liked milk
Cody you sacrificed your time and money for this, you deserve a medal and definitely deserve your money back.
Seriously I watched it last night and I enjoyed it
Not gonna lie, I got high hopes for Gale, the horror spin off of Wizard of Oz.
Your edits have improved so much. That meme and fake ending tho 😂😂😂
i actually liked it i got enjoyment of the killings. they could’ve done more but with what was given to me with this film i was pretty satisfied with it
Glad you enjoyed it.
I honestly was pretty excited for this. Maybe it's morbid curiosity, but there's something about turning wholesome concepts into something horrendous that interests me. But this was so bad. Aside from the intro, nothing about this felt Winnie the Pooh. Hopefully if they go through with other series they actually take and apply the criticism they've had for this one
Gotta say what you’re describing is exactly what I thought it would be. 😂
I cackled out loud when you said the prologue 💀
Winnie the Poo Blood and Honey. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Is it good? No. Did I love it? Yes. The dialogue felt like it was written by an 8-year old, which is either stupid or pure genius. I’m always down for some head stomps. I found myself sympathizing with Poo and Piglet. I felt sad for them. The opening was great! “And then Eeyore was no more.” I’m pretty sure that was Eeyore’s tail used to whip Christopher Robin. I want to watch it again. I wonder how many Easter eggs I missed.
This review was unironically more enjoyable than the movie
Ok but the negatives just took me out 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
With 2022 being a banger year for horror, I was hyped for 2023, especially after we got M3GAN (2022) in wide release in January. Then it seemed like we got an onslaught of "experimental theater" like Skinamarink (2022), The Outwaters (2022), and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023). Hopefully a few of the horror films scheduled for release this fall will help redeem 2023.
Was so excited for this review lol and wasn’t disappointed
So you're saying it's a pile of Pooh? Ugh I don't feel good about that one either...
