Let's Play Around With Different Painting And Weathering Techniques | T-90 | Revell 1/72

- Revell's T-90 in 1/72 scale is not the most breathtaking model ever made, so I think it's an ideal project to test some rather unusual painting and weathering techniques. Well, each method is gonna be the same as usual, but we'll switch their order - for example we'll start with some mud!
My goal is to figure out a more time efficient approach to weathering while keeping the results as good as possible, so that we can finish more scale models and have more fun with the hobby!

Night shift: I’m gonna do some experimenting... also night shift: makes the model look like he’s been doing the techniques for years
Well, the techniques are basically the same as always, just in a slightly different order :)
I feel like Nightshift is the kind of person that builds model while in a work meeting and just have it going on in the background
Ι was weathering my Prinz Eugen model today while in class online lmao
@@antonytheocharidis9576 in fact, you had an on-line class in the background while you were weathering Prinz Eugen. Modelling comes first, everything else is superfluous.
@Bill Bradford well done, the victory is at hand!
I tried that once while still in middle school... ended up being ridiculed by the entire class :(
@Night Shift yeah, same thing happened to me when I shared my work with my friends. Kind of the way it is. Those insuperior ridicule the superior
leave up to Uncle Night Shift to make models look good no matter the shortcomings...
Enamel wash is the real MVP in this case!
Man your channel was randomly recommended to me yesterday with the first T-90 video and I'm genuinely shocked at your production value considering how few videos you have. I love your content so far from what I've seen, I'm really looking forward to more!
Also I hate to be that guy, but if you could continue to do more modern vehicles I'd super appreciate it. I know it's sacrilege, but I've never been that interested in WW2 vehicles, so anything post-war is super interesting to me.
Same was just recommended his first vid
Welcome then! I try to make the selection of models more varied, so there will be some WW2 in the future, but of course more modern stuff as well, and also (finally) some WW1
same here, the first video came up in my recommended, next thing i know i had subscribed and watched the entire tiger 1 series.
SAMMMMMMEEEEE
@@NightShiftScaleModels Same thing, saw previous T-90 video in my recommendations yesterday, and now I'm a subscriber. And I'm not even into modelling myself. But I can appreciate your skill and attention to details. Looking forward for your WW1 projects!
I just realize how small this model is. paint job looks ridiculously good.
Night Shift: I hand paint all of my chipping
Also Night Shift: Guys check it out I think I figured out that you can use chipping fluid to make chipping effects
Chipping fluid can create chipping effects?
mind = blown
Simple, yet one of my favorites in your series. Not everyone is a master modeler, this is a good motivation to those of us who are mere mortals!
Wow, that thing looks fantastic only after washes! You are 100% the best modeler on CZcams!
Yeah, he’s great, but doesn’t quite go into enough detail on his techniques for me. Neither is he as entertaining.
Yeah plasmo makes some amazing models but he isn't that entertaining and lacks everyones favourite eastern European uncles charisma.
Truth
Quinnyperks I prefer uncle night shift over plasmo because he makes each build in a few videos, so there’s loads of time to go over the techniques
Enamel wash from Ammo is the best modeller, period.
Amazing how much this amount of TLC can improve a substandard model kit. Would love to see you try and fix more awful, bargain bin models!
Got a few more of those in my stash, and in my display case as well :)
I kind of tripped over your channel. I am amused by your sense of humor, amazed by your ability to put some lipstick on a pig and to effortlessly pull off a quality job. You make it look easy. Some of your techniques sound like they won't work, but you get great results. I have just subscribed. Keep up the great work!
The rubber skirts look absolutely awesome !!!!!!!!!! Great video !!!! 🙂
* Looks at own models *
* Takes to trash *
* Never models again *
Don't give up bro. He wasn't born this good. Lots of hard work went into accumulating those skills. Keep up modelling!
@@olliefoxx7165 dont forget he maby took 3 days to do this 1 moddel xD
Do not let "the perfect" be the enemy of "the good enough". (Taken from some Linux website)
I feel same way
"Not the most pleasant thing ever." Yeah no kidding.
Well, still better than Airfix or Heller I guess!
Night Shift there’s quite a few recent 1/48 airfix planes that are quite good, but they’re always a lot cheaper than other brands so what can you expect 🤷♂️
person on youtube yeah, if you ignore the old moulds then a lot of the kits aren’t too bad
Bro you make it look so easy, amazing job!
Yes night Shift is back......love to watch and here your voice again 👍
Mini T-90 is looking good. Shame the kit isn't better quality, but it's getting a quality finish. Great vid.
I dont even make models but your voice helps me with my math work
why was this recommended to me? why am i bingewatching this? Oh shit ive already subscribed, ive literally never been interested in modeling how did the google overlords know Id love this before I did??
Oh gosh, never seen a video this early before. Would LOVE to see how you tackle a big imperial warhammer 40k tank and how it compares to the normal styles used for those models. Love your work!
imagine he paint a Freeblade
Ok, Martin, you can't sneak around this one: Your 1/72 paint and weathering job on this T-90 IS absolutely Alex-Clarkeresque. Well done!
I, m a bit mad at you complaining about the build and then come up with a absolute masterpiece. I build this one too and I can hold my own but in comparison with your build.... Omg. 😂😉
“Using these two will make your chipping look twice as good” looks like someone didn’t take into account that my chipping is horrendous, and 2x0=0
Yea... i mean... 0 would be no chipping. 2x-1=-2. Dont give yourself too much credit
This! More of this kind of experimenting videos, please! So much useful info in here! And it keeps things fresh and interesting.
With all the details on that turret...the initial wash just made everything stand out so well. Really nice work.
Awesome! Followed this closely on Patreon and I have to say, You don't disappoint!!!
..."weathering sermon of the year" haha Im grateful for the knowledge you share, amazing results cheers :)
Probably one of my favorite weathering builds of yours, nice work.
Your build video of this tank popped up in my recommended, so I decided to check out the end results: the amount of details you were able to paint on the model! Insane! Very well done :D
Love all the techniques wrapped up nicely in a two episode series!!
This is actually REALLY good watching for any1 wanting to learn or get better at texture painting in digital 3D Models.
I like your technique to keep the primer thin and avoid buildup. The detail and weatherinng looks great and this legit came out nice. I'd be proud of this one if it were mine.
Really enjoy your videos. I love your approach and narration. The humor is incredibly effective at livening up a subject that can be difficult to make interesting. Keep up the good work!
Loving the work here. I just finished building my Modelcollect 1/72 T-72AV and your video pop up. This is a pleasant surprise. I'll give your method a try once I have started painting mine.
This is fascinating and relaxing. I never knew I needed this channel so much!
I literally get excited when i see a new video from him because i love seeing what he does next and how his projects turn out. Uncle Night Shift you're the boss
I always think all the effects are execisve untill then end and im in awe. Looks amazing!
Looks stunning already. I love the paint modulation
Brilliant. You are quite a talented artist. I felt like I was watching metal rust in time-lapse as you worked your brush over it. I will be sure to check out your other models when I have a a few free minutes to rub together.
Wonderful detail painting on such a small scale. A great example of build up layers of interest. Wonderful work. Great stuff
I build my first model after 15 years - a tigerII from hobbyboss - and i use ur tiger and rutscher videos as manual to build and buy the most stuff to enter again in this hobby :P
I have a lot of fun, watching ur vids - the type of humor - great :)
With all the time, effort, and detail you put into your models, "lazy" would be the last way I would think of to describe you, Martin. Your build looks great despite the kit's shortcomings.
Considering the Revell T-90 is meant as more of a table-top game piece than a realistic miniature, you have shown how painting something well, even with just 2-3 different colors and a good wash, can really make almost anything look a LOT better (maybe even better than it should?).
Night Shift = Cool tank man go brrrrrrrrr
I saw your previous video this morning and even though its not my thing I enjoyed it. Went looking for your next one on it and didn't see it. LOL thanks for the upload :)
EDIT: Oh and I loved your sandbags!
Thanks for doing another 72nd scale model
Your freakin great man it’s fun to take a break from intense modeling and listen to you enjoying your self
wow, it's amazing how you completely saved this 'bad' model and made it look so much better than it would have been stock
MARTIN!!! Beautiful, man. I love it!
This 'Inverted' Chipping method was actually something ive done to cheat at getting the smaller light coloured chips, i find it works really well for that, especially on smoother shapes.
I really enjoy watching you experiment and id love to see (when you feel up to it) you go absolutely hog wild on a kit, of pretty much any kind.
Thanks for another great time at your workbench, Martin.
~Jay
I'd actually still prefer a brush or a sponge on flatter surfaces, but these more complex models are easier to chip with HS as the paint wear always starts around edges. Maybe the sweetest spot will be to combine all 3 methods together.
@@NightShiftScaleModels Almost certainly, though I think for lots of very light chipping, sort of like road rash, the fluid would be the most effective with it still looking mostly natural.
Got a nice Middle Eastern project coming up and am looking forward to cracking open my Vallejo modern Russian greens for this kind of effect.
I'm glad I found your channel, brilliant video and very satisfying.
Your VO is half the reason I watch your videos. Your techniques are killer, but you are a funny dude.
Incredible work, as per usual! Love the Patreon content too. (RogueElement)
I got recommended the first T90 video yesterday, and I gotta say, I'm very impressed. It was an instant subscription from me, and I do not regret it. I would love to see you do different types of model kits, too, like planes, ships, trains, etc. Could be interesting.
Jack of Clubs painting recommended you, and I'm so glad he did. Great job!
Looking great already! Gosh I want to build one so badly now. Cheers friend!
The algorithm brought me here, but I have to say I really rather liked your mentality of 'making things over the top' to sell the appearance of a material or an effect on something so small, that's a really fascinating feature that makes a lot of the extremely detailed minis and models I've seen make a lot more sense.
Cool stuff man, real cool stuff.
It already looks stunning !
the skirts look SOOO good
A 1/72 scale kit in the hands of Night Shift and ALL the details will be improved! Yes, ALL! Nicely done! 👍👍
Your "quick and dirty experimenting" looks better than my best effort. Good job once again!
Amazing! Your models are always the best
I kid you not this is one of my favourite series and i have watched each video like 3 times. Not really a modern tank guy but this has given me the inspiration to try some newer stuff other than the regular german and british amour. Still can't find those damn photos of the tank one month on 😂, keep up the great work!
You call this model not great, I call it magic. Awesome work.
This channel is relaxing , keep it up!
Nice job! Masterclass in weathering.
Chipping with varnish technique...
Oh sh*t, here we go again...
this deserves more upvotes
@@NightShiftScaleModels 😆😆😆
@@NightShiftScaleModels Done deal LOL
Hot damn, that rust wash is amazing. Need to get me some of that.
Its amazing for realistic details. So cool.
I'm just starting out with model building and was looking for some tips for painting. I've been sticking with cars but now I want to get a tank. Subscribed.
i like using different brands of silver pencils for aluminum/steel chipping and wear. its easy to be subtle or sharp with
Night Shift - Thanks for putting out these great videos, glad I subscribed. Even though I'm primarily a aircraft (mostly cold war nato/wp era with some ww2 for good measure) I find alot of techniques carry over. Really good stuff!
That looks really really good, much better than anything I've ever painted (but I hated spending more than 10 minutes on it when I was young lol). Subscribed :)
Thanks for another great tutorial.
Tony
this is only youtube channel thaat i watch full screen!
Man, that looks great!
"doesent look like much", while looking 10x better than anything ive ever made
I found your channel from the kinda clickbait title of the previous video but it's very enjoying and I learned a lot thanks for making these good videos
That looks awesome!
This looks so awesome
Amazing video very great even though I have not watched it yet
I thought the camo I somewhat painted with enamel paint and brushes on my 1/72 Hummel was alright, but this takes it to a whole other level. Looking forward to learning from you
So, you're spinning gold out of crap model straw? Neat!
1 weeks ago i see your T90 video, i think this is a good channel
Now i see more t90 video and this good things
For a small model, it stands out a lot more than some of the larger ones. Cheers for the video bud :-)
Total Awesomeness...
Again ....
Wow, the tank look already amazing at the end. I like these "quick methods" as I'm not very patient.
You are an artist.
Wow. that's beautiful.
Outstanding!
id like those easy tutorials. Its like, how to end your hobby in 20:25^^
Yeah washes are quite amazing. Absolute must have on minis imo. Really brings out tiny details.
At 8:15 the numbers you're peainting are railroad oversize indexes. They are for railroad personnel to understand by how much a payload on a railroad car exceed usual dimensions. In simple terms, by how much load sticks outside the car.
Just found your channel through the first T-90 video. Awesome work!
I've next to no real experience of this level of model building and painting, but I was kinda surprised how dark and visible the wash you used was - kinda made the model look shell shaded (like Borderlands). I guess it's difficult to simulate different layers of depth with ambient occlusion and reflections on such a small scale.
tracks parts directly on ground are always brand new metal shiny !
i have never watched stuf like that buuuuut it's kinda fun to watch so guess I'll be back for the next one lol
Great work.
It feels odd you saying your lazy you do far more than I do on models 😂
well, someone has to make that weekly content!
Night Shift yeah I suppose
me also
then again, im a low budget, 1st time modeller, so...
I like a light blackish brown wash.....with thinner. Very easy! Tends to dry lighter! Even perfect store bought models could use a little weathering! Just a brush and abit of paint....and plenty of thinner....if it’s to heavy! Careful...it peels paint. Very easy....takes 5 minutes!
Looking so much better.
Watching these vids makes me feel blessed that gunpla kits tend to be pretty good oob and need less modifications to look good before painting
