This is a lot of steps to process and in game you only have a split second to read all of it and execute. It takes a ton of practice and repetition to know which way a skater is going to go.
The most important piece of advice not in this video is to not over think it or get mechanical. The spot in the crease you get to when you challenge isnt as important as timing you decision. Take away the angle, pull back and wait, then decide.
How do you play as goalie in games?
Thanks for everyone who submitted clips and helped make this video possible! Let me know what you guys think!
what stance does mcsavid use?
Best one yet!! Excited for all the stuff coming up from you guys in 2021!
Thanks for this, my EASHL club team is a trainwreck defensively so this will help me keep my save percentage above .500 moving forward. Cheers!
Good luck man! It only makes ya better
My team is a workhorse defensively but can barely bury the puck in the back of the net 😅😅😅
@@liamplayz1239 if you need a strong offensive player, I’m right here. I know how to score goals, I’m on an EASHL 20 game goal streak right now
@@andreis5975 we’ve figured out how, but thanks for the offer! Might consider but we’ve improved significantly
Great advice. Cool seeing devil and jim in there!
Well done! Hope this helps all our fellow tendies.
This video was awesome. As someone who's new to NHL games, this was really informative!
the regular poke check is underrated on slow penalty shots when you slide out really fast it sometimes gets them
This format is incredible and some of your best work yet! Good stuff!!
Appreciate it man! I enjoyed this type of video way more than the typical tips! That format is getting a bit stale for me
@@betweenthepipes Practicing reads is difficult without a format like this. This is a huge help. Thank you!
Thank you for all the videos. you helped me a lot in 21. shout out to other strugling goalies out there!
Just wanted to say that after watching this video I stopped my next five breakaways. I’m just a BAP player, but I was really happy nonetheless. Thank you and liked and subbed.
Glad it helped man!
Great videos B.T.P i like the way they are setup! great job
Great video man !!!! Thanks a lot
Great vid!
I had given up on goalie in 21 but miss it and want to head back..lol I struggled hard when it first came out.....great video
It’s super normal to go through ups and downs like thT
It’s not that hard for me, but I can make the AI as smart as I possibly can, up the difficulty all the way and up the time to 20 minutes and I’ll literally just stand there the entire time doing nothing because nothing is on my side. They really need to improve this bullshit because it isn’t fun
Thank you for the tips!
Great vid very helpful
As usual great stuff keep it up
Will do Joey!
I watched all of your tip videos last night and tonight in 4 games I had 3 straight shutouts and the last game I had one goal against and a .950%
All you man nice work!
@@betweenthepipes appreciate it man!
What goalie stance does McSavid use? Is that 49?
Hey just had a quick question about manual butterflies. When the skater is coming at the net, at what point do you drop down to butterfly for breakaways or penalty shots? I haven't got targeted a ton on my five hole in public games but every once in a while I let one in and it's super frustrating.
Pass the hashmarks then use butterfly
Really need this since I only play 3’s with my buddy who’s allergic to defense. Tough to keep my SV% above .715
My go-to move is to come way out when the shooter approaches and fake the flying poke, and then back way up. 95% of players will panic and make one move and shoot
The classic fake out 😂 the top players caught on to that one pretty quick on me
Thanks for the tip man
@@betweenthepipes oh for sure, but when you're a shoutbox bum like I am nobody plays me enough to catch on haha
Great video and all but how do you save CPU breakaways? because I find they are less predictable and harder to read
They typically shoot rather than deke
Beauty video!
Thanks for submitting your clips!
Not to toot my own horn but I got a 100% ;) I can't believe I forgot to send in my clips, stupid me!
Patience is keyyyyyy
are these guys all just standing in front of the puck when the shooter lets it go? i am great at making stand-up saves and have good positioning but always struggle the most when people crash the net because my butterfly is awful. i hardly ever butterfly but if i stay standing up for close-quarter shots, i often get five-holed. any advice?
How do you make it so you see see your team on O??
I loved it; #GreatVideo but i wish i coulda be in it myself to give my 2 cents and talk some hockey lol PS: Savid is a ledgend if you ask me 😅
Love it
awesome
Can this apply to NHL 23?
🙏🏾
I relly like the format
Can you do one on how to save penalty shots/shootouts
This video was for penalty shots and breakaways. It’s all the same
@@betweenthepipes Oh, sorry
I play goalie in actual hockey not the game and yeah the best way to face a breakaway or a penalty shot is being patient and wait for the player to make the move first and if you stall or make the move to slow pucks in so I agree with this video.
EA trying to make it as real as possible its closer then last game NHL20
Is there not a way to manually make glove saves or am I missing something?
You position yourself and your guy does the rest of the low and high stuff automatically. You try to stay on your skates as much as you can, when the puck is real close to you you should be in butterfly (L2, LT or Triangle, Y) i.e. A loose puck in front of you. It's all left stick since '19. Right stick is kind of rough and does not accomplish what you would want it to do, it makes the goalie slide but most people never use it. Except for extreme measures such as breakaways or bad positioning out of the blue just like this video.
I noticed that the shooter goes forehand 90% of the time. Great video!!
I think it might be this year. Forehand shots are deadly especially if you have to move any decent distance to save them
ive been getting absolutely dumpsterd this year on breakaway/PS. after watching this I think my problem is I'm moving first and trying to dictate whats open vs trying to stall and put the effuses on the skater to make the first move. like anything in life... its a work in progress, thanks for the amazing content
PS: after watching the next vid (reading plays) I realized I never use speed boost for breakaways... gonna have to work that in and figure that out.
If you can’t decide on a side, you always have dirty birdy
You get them to trip and then you dont have to stop the breakaway just the penalty shot
No matter how I tweak the settings the other team just WILL NOT play defense and attack me so I just stand there for 60 minutes while my team proceeds to win like 10-0 every fucking time and it gets very unplayable at that point. Being a Goalie fucking sucks I have lost my patience with this game and just deleted it off my PS4 lol
Crease police tryna give goalie tips when he's got glove high and glove low as his traits lmao, useless
He’s also giving tips when he won $20,000 in the biggest 6s event of NHL 21 😉
@@betweenthepipes the team won 20k, not him alone lol good try though
My point still stands 😉 he won the biggest 6s tourney in the world. What have you done?
Started up a business and have made a lot more than 20k 😂😂😂
Buddy this is about the skill required to win that tourney not the prize. Everyone makes more money than you can win in NHL tourneys.
Yikes
