Damian Lewis, what an actor. He can portray the hero and great leader in "Band of Brothers" and play it to perfection,,,,,,,,,,,, and then he can play this part equally well. Good on ya Damo.
Only 11 minutes into this film and there's such a huge difference between it and the much older BBC tv series I'd been watching until CZcams recommended this. The perspective of these writers is much more challenging to the viewer; it's much less idealistic; much less glorifying of soldiering, and fighting any war, no matter how important and glorious that war may be romanticized to be. There are fewer stereotypes, more conflict, mistakes, feelings that don't resolve quickly or easily! Both products of their times, I realize! Had never even heard of Colditz til it showed up on my little iPhone screen recently, in the fall of 2014! Thanks to all concerned for opening up this amazing part of history for the rest of us!!!! 👍🌟❤️🎆
The one thing that this series is missing is the all the songs the prisoners would sing, not that it needed to be a musical but one or two even shortened versions of them being that music was such a gigantic part of those soldiers lives.
It's better then nothing. I wish people would stop complaining about free movies. Please post more if you have the time, I like your taste. And thank you!
What an utter load of Crap, a betrayal of Colditz and the men who were there utterly Stupid See the original 2 series No stupid music No stupid romance crap just good acting and true to the story , Hollywoods slant on war it seems
Watched and enjoyed the TV series but unfortunately some episodes are now missing from series 2. Otherwise, brilliant. Bernard Hepton was outstanding followed closely by Jack Hedley, David McCallum and Robert Wagner.
Thank you for posting this movie. It is different from the 1970s version, but that doesn’t mean it is worse or better, just a different perspective. Good actors.
This really bears no resemblance to what actually happened in Colditz, please either watch the movie Coldits story with John Mills or the 70s BBC TV series
This is different from the 70's production, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Kinda like saying there's only one Sherlock Holmes, Rathbone, Brett & Cushing are all good, but they're different. The cast in this is worthy of my attn, they got a Canadian to play a Canadian. ✌❤
What a shitty story. Its disgusting what they did to the real Colditz. Better watch the TV series from the 1970s BBC. This is so bad. Just another "There must always be a love story inside a movie-shiit"
Fantastic acting and a great film. It may be far removed from the actual Colditz story, but so was the TV film and previous movies. No Bader, all the German officers speaking English etc etc. Fact is only a few got away, Neale, Lutyens, Reid, Henley, Littledale, plus seven others (well done chaps). Most of the prisoners just did their time waiting for the end of the war.
Whoever wrote this script should be put in colditz"....I know it's just drama for television but omg it couldn't be further from the truth of life inside colditz....I'm really quite disgusted by the clowns who made this...it can't be compared to colditz at all
From what little I know yet, about the true stories , the tragedy of what happened to some strong solid deep loving marriages was just as important as everything else!
I think the love story was just as important, and just as true a part of the history as any other! In the BBC tv series it's defined differently, but crystal clear that a great love was THE motive for one man's daring escape.
I honestly cannot believe how disgusting that guy was and how messed up that storyline was! Ugh! He was so gross I don't even know how she fell for that, eeek.
Blatant copy of the Titanic, just set somewhere else and in a different time. Titanic didn't need to have the 'romantic' setting between Jack and Rose, and in this film, the guy's name is Jack Rose. Irrelevant love story. I was looking forward to more of the details of the escape attempts and how they were organized and co-ordinated. Glad I got this on CZcams, because I wouldn't have paid for this.
This is inaccurate and silly. But I watched it. And I like the actors. Nobody who has been in a P.O.W. camp would send a letter telling about the injustice done to Rose.
This is the first time I heard and have seen this version. On its own it isn’t too bad, but is essentially more about a love triangle and wicked acts to poach another man’s sweetheart by any means foul with attempted escapes on the side. Perhaps it is unfair to compare directly with the 1955 version on that basis. I shall have to re watch the 1955 version which I saw many years ago. Thank you for posting.
In itself this story is kind of interesting, however, compared to the Colditz television series the storyline about the p.o.w.’s, the details of their escape plans, the clear missing out of an escape officer, sbo, etcetera, make the story which is titled after OFlag IV’s nickname a rather thin one. The whole part of the storyline of McGrade falsely conquering Lizzie too obvious and too thick on the thread. It makes watching this movie to the end into a chore, rather than a pleasure. It’s a pity today’s storylines aren’t considered apt enough to awe an audience when no romantic involvement is part of the movie. It leaves the viewer with a kind of aftertaste even this story in itself wouldn’t deserve, weren’t it for the fact that its title refers to a production which can still be considered a significant part of television’s history and has left a more than lasting impression beyond the quality of the product presented here.
And another great series to watch apart from secret army . From 1970 is itvs MANHUNT with Robert Hardy and Phillip Maddock which is well worth watching it has the begining of beethovens 5th symphony as the main title theam. Can't find find any episodes yet to watch on you tube.Would like to watch the whole series again brilliant tv drama also THE ROADS TO FREEDOM which was on bbc2 also very good.
This is a 21st Century rendition of the famous Colditz escape in WWII. Unfortunately, it feels much too modern and pales by comparison with the 1955 film THE COLDITZ STORY featuring John Mills, Eric Portman and Lionel Jeffries, which is a much tighter and character-driven work. In any event, thanks for posting.
Sorry to say it but, this depiction of Colditz was complete Rubbish. I just finished watching the series of the 1972/74 series and that was really something to remember. I will neither thumb this version up or down. I just want to forget it. . . . forever.
Oh dear, I've just finished watching the original series which was well before my time but was on my list-to-do. My difficulty with this one layes in the perception that acting of the 70-series was astute. The actors profoundly embody strong willed charismatic characters. I will have to park this one for some time. In the first few minutes I can't notice anything special, let alone being close to the source material. Perhaps I could put on some new glasses but for now... nothing seems to come close to the original...
Sort of sorry to cut and paste this but it will lead you to some great TV, and yes the film above is just piffle. For all you that have enjoyed Colditz, please try to see Secret Army. Another Gerard Glaister production, this has Clifford Rose as a deeply menacing Sturmbannführer Ludwig Kessler Bernard Hepton isn't a nice German, in this he is a Belgian who can be very cold and murderous. The escape line kill just as many British aircrew than the Germans, if not more. Just because someone is a lead character doesn't mean they will make it to the next episode. Later pastiched in the comedy series Allo Allo. The premier of 70s WWII dramas. CZcams isn't your friend here, but someone has just posted the first episode (Link not allowed) Lots of episodes on OK Russia. Harder to find are the 70s contemporary series Warship and The Sandbaggers, both created by an EX-RN officer. The Sandbaggers is possibly the greatest ever spy series (yes, including the le Carré ones) and the majority of the action takes place in one of three offices.
If you know very little or better nothing at all about Colditz and want to watch what is basically a tragic romance with betrayal within the ranks then this is the movie for you. The acting is excellent and rather wasted on a silly plot that's more of a date movie than anything else. Far better to seach on the British series on here that is actually close to the true story. 4/10
Well here's another fine drama from the granada telivision .Stop comparing it to other the tv series.I look on this 3hrs series in another light I rather like it. Exceptional may I say
Don't know why the producers felt that the new series needed this story line. The representation of the Castle itself was poor. Looked nothing like the real one which never had a grill gate in it. The 1972/74 series was better and concentrated on the Pat Reid generated storylines from his two excellent books.
I visited Colditz in I guess 2004/5. Being English, I know it as a prison but it’s got a long history and I was surprised to see non prison tourists visiting. 😅Germans ofcourse. I enjoyed the tour but health and safety gets in the way a bit. I wouldn’t have been game to attempt a roof climb but I did want to shimmy down some tunnels.
It wasn’t an amazing movie as a war movie. But as a romance of sorts it was okay. First time I’ve ever hated a character played by Damien Lewis. And I must say, I bloody hope it worked out between Jack and Liz. Although their ending isn’t officially written
What an excellent Movie ,acting, writing , everything. So unexpected , some movies have so much ballyhoo when made, and turn out very disappointing , like the new "Dunkirk" . Then this comes on, Brilliant !,
Lawrence Fox, Tom Hardy, and Damian Lewis-what a treat, Thank You! I will watch the TV Series, too.🙋🏼♀️
Guys who played Willis his performance of falling into madness was absolutely incredible what an actor
Laurence is wonderful in this.
Damian Lewis, what an actor. He can portray the hero and great leader in "Band of Brothers" and play it to perfection,,,,,,,,,,,, and then he can play this part equally well. Good on ya Damo.

I think they did show how the boot camp crawling in mud training actually comes into play as a soldier
The one thing that this series is missing is the all the songs the prisoners would sing, not that it needed to be a musical but one or two even shortened versions of them being that music was such a gigantic part of those soldiers lives.

Fantastic and without the interruption of ads!!!
Excellent movie
Watched and enjoyed the TV series but unfortunately some episodes are now missing from series 2. Otherwise, brilliant. Bernard Hepton was outstanding followed closely by Jack Hedley, David McCallum and Robert Wagner.
I think they are there! In the original playlist I watched, episodes 6, 7, 10 and 11 were missing but a search for those episodes turned them up!
As Pat says, all available with a quick search.

What drivel. If you want a proper insight to Colditz watch the series from the 70's!!
11:31 into the movie. Thankfully I read the comments before I wasted my time. I guess I'll go watch the series again.
thanks wery must for this great film
Thanks for posting' quite enjoyable thanks
A really good 3 hrs....I grew up on Colditz,and war films,and rekon its worth a watch.....some fact,some fiction,and a tearjerking yarn !!
This really bears no resemblance to what actually happened in Colditz, please either watch the movie Coldits story with John Mills or the 70s BBC TV series
This is an entertaining work of fiction, not a factual accurate documentary.
This is different from the 70's production, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Kinda like saying there's only one Sherlock Holmes, Rathbone, Brett & Cushing are all good, but they're different. The cast in this is worthy of my attn, they got a Canadian to play a Canadian. ✌❤
The drug part of the Canadian didn't suit me... after like 5 years in prison and as a drug addict....he looked to good....
Better off watching the series (1972-1974).
Definately....some superb acting....this is really weak.
Agreed. I mean it's a good movie but I would have preferred them to leave out the stupid deceptive love triangle bullshit
I like Damien Lewis he was good in the Forsythe saga and good in this part.
I was sad to Laurence Fox character die, it
How to turn a World War II legend into a serial killer thriller.... Here ya go.

This movie abused the name Colditz "for the clicks". It's got hardly anything serious to do with the reality behind Colditz.

I imagine so. It’s been seventeen years.
Bravo! I really enjoyed this. Great acting from a great cast. I will watch it again one day. 7/10
This is an insult to those who served and were held at Colditz,. If they had called it something like 'Betrayal' that would of been more inkeeping.
It’s not a documentary
Movies always use that special license, don’t they.
