    If the box of GI Jo’s was that important to the seller, they would have organised them better and kept an eye on them. I paid $10 for the box, it’s mine.

      It can be confusing as hell at a sale. I always make sure the seller knows what I'm buying from them. Someone could have passed away, so I don't want to take anything in error that's sentimental.

    You gotta do the right thing! There's a reason the Ebay reseller market has turned Cut throat!!! Even if i was demented enough to take the box for $10 i would have felt terrible and taken the GI Joes Back! Ethics is a business responsibility that we all must honor!

    I would have thought that was the price of the box. If the seller doesn't look through and see what she's selling, it's on her. As a reseller, you go and buy undervalued items dailey and sell for a profit. It's the same thing

    Since she specifically mentioned them, I would also have let her know about the GI Joes. I've run sales many times & that can easily happen with a customer mixing things from different boxes together.
    HOWEVER, as a seller, I would've given him a very sweet deal in exchange for his honesty.

  • @robincormier8809
    @robincormier8809 Před 29 dny +1

    Since you question the ethics of the seller, consider that when she went looking for them later, she might have thought he hid them in the box & was trying to steal them. It could have turned ugly if she decided to call the police. Plus, she might have recognized him later & made it difficult for him at other sales. His reputation is intact & he did the right thing. Even though it sucks that he didn't get the other GI Joes.

    I had a similar event happen in my early years selling where a seller sent me something different but greater value. I played it dumb as if I didn't get anything, but now I still on occasion think back to it and feel absolutely awful about it. So for sure I'd of done the right thing and acknowledge the mistake they made, no amount of money is worth losing sleep and morality to. Even when I'm in the position to buy something like 100+ GI Joes for $10 I'd give more just because it has made me connections with others for additional collections.

    Box lot is $10 means box lot is $10. I can't reprice something that has already sold on ebay and Walmart can't reprice something once I've rung it up. Once the $10 bill left his hand and went into her pocket he owned the box and it's contents. IMO this is a very black and white scenario. Now if she had discovered her mistake and said she wanted to reprice I would have said sure no problem I'll sell you this box for 1/2 the price she comes up with.

    I saw this on the Facebook group and when I read it, my first thought was that the woman was talking about a different box, because the one in hand had a price of $10 on it. So if it had been me, that would have been my assumption, that there was another box of even better ones, maybe NOS, that were probably out of my price range, and I would have said "no thanks" and left with the $10 box. I wouldn't purposely walk out with something that I knew was mismarked, though.

  • @miladelpamatmat
    @miladelpamatmat Před 23 dny

    I would have done the same thing. I HAVE done the same thing in a situation involving vintage Christmas stuff. As much as I'm trying to find a deal and make the most money, it's not worth it to me to lie or hide what I know in such a situation. If she hadn't said something to me, then whoopee I got a great deal. And this is different than someone quoting me a price of $10 for everything they see and that I know is worth way way more. They see it all, that's what it's worth to them at that time. That's fair. If I encounter them some time later and they ask if they had been in the box and didn't realize it at the time of the sale then it's moot at that point. "All sales are final" goes both ways after it's left the building.

  • @stephaniewilson258

    This isn’t really a reseller comment but just a comment about something bought and returned at a yard sale. Years ago we were at a yard sale and my husband picked up some cookbooks. He collects them especially likes the ones that are made by the families and have all the unusual things in it. We got it home and we were looking at it it just seemed too special . We brought it back , and the people were horrified that they had sold it it was something that they treasured but somebody had put it out not knowing I guess. My husband was kind of ticked off that he had to give it up but that was between us he didn’t say anything to them. And we just used the dollar we spent to pick up something else from the sale. To this day it still irritates him if I bring it up , but at the same time , he feels we did the right thing .
    As resellers ourselves , I’d probably have to be honest with her but I think she was wrong to not at least cut him a deal since he technically had paid for them and they were his.

    He would not have said anything if she didn't offer g.i. joes so his ethics would have been different if she didn't say anything...he did not offer that information before paying. As far as her ethics being terrible a person just selling their stuff at a garage sale cannot be expected to have or even know of the ethics that a reseller should

    When we see things in a "box" "bag" etc,. we don't always look through everything and just pay what was asked. However, if it looked like the seller didn't know what was in there, then Yes, would re-confirm with the seller if that is what they are actually selling. As things happen and something could have been put out that shouldn't be for sale. Though, there are some garage sellers who play the game, when they see some interest in the item(s) so they want to increase the price, after pickup.

    We need more people like Alveraz in the world; especially in the reseller community. Sure, if you find a great deal that is under priced, that is super cool. But this was not the actual situation; once you know that the $10 price was not supposed to be on that box (or the GI Joes weren't supposed to be in the box) you do the right thing and hope the seller will work with you. You will always make more money; but money can never by character.

    Thank you for your channel, I really enjoy it, your two work well together! What I would like to see Candice, is how you search for yard sales especially on facebook. I cannot seem to filter down to get the most recent in the search perimeter I am looking for. Also for items, I get some in my area I'm looking for and then all the sudden it gives me ones two states away. I know this sounds like a weird question but everytime I ask people how they search it they are having the same problem and they'll say " oh yeah that's just the way it is." I'm not buying it. A video on that would be awesome. Thanks for all you put out there! Kelly

    tough one... i bought the box prior to the info she gave me about the other box. she sold it to me as it was so therefore i own it. for all we know there is another box of gi joes she already sold. why would she have to reprice a box that already existed on the table. how many times do we buy boxes that do not contain the right item. i have to make sure i am buying quality item therefor it is the seller responsibility to check what she is selling me. if i buy something that doesn't match the box or is broken it is on me so the shoe fits the sellers foot the same way. the purchase is complete the contents are mine. lets see if anyone agrees or maybe my ethics are out of whack.

    @findsanddeals Před 29 dny +1

    I would have done the same thing with the G.I. Joes. It's a bit of a bummer that the seller didn't try to work something out with the buyer, given that they could have walked away with the lot for $10, but the buyer knew that they might walk away with nothing when they spoke up, unfortunately. It comes down to what feels right to you, personally.
    If I had not noticed the GI Joes until I got home, I might have felt differently about things. There are so many nuances to what feels right or wrong to any of at any given moment.

That they both sides benefited but instead, she did not realize he could’ve taken that box that he already paid for and made a huge profit. Instead, he was honest as I would’ve been. I don’t believe that this woman understood how instead of a rewarding honesty, her greed got to her I hope he keeps doing exactly as he did. That’s how we keep honest people in this world, I’d rather have my integrity than the money. Just wish she had understood what a good person did for her …

    Every sale I go to I always go up to the owner and tell them some punk kids knocked their sale sign down, but it's OK because I chased them off and put their sign back up. All that is total BS. Now they see me as the savior of their sale. I can basically low ball them on anything at the sale. Haha, just kidding. 😂
    Here's what I'd do: since I do collect 80s Joes I would have looked incredibly disappointed and asked if I could just buy two or three that I'm interested in if the price was right -- no point in going home empty handed after going all the way to the sale. Then I would have asked if it would be fine if I get their phone number and make an offer for the lot if they don't sell the next day.

    That church sale reminds me of one I went to. 'It's for charity', unquote. They had $125 on a $25 necklace, resale price about $50 at best. Claimed it was antique but it was at most 20 years old, and that's being generous. It was still there when I left. Long tale of stupid mistakes (theirs) omitted. Like I said on the reply directly on that post on the watercolor page... it is our job, as resellers, to search for items that are at the lowest selling price to give us the most profit margin. Example: if we see an item that we know sells on the bay for $100 and the sellers mark it for $1-$5 bucks then we pick it up and buy it... if the seller marked it up to $75 because the seller says that it sells on ebay for $100, that makes ZERO sense for us to buy it at $75 to make only less than $25 (after fees).
    In this scenario, it is the sellers responsibility to know where their items are and the correct prices marked on the boxes etc. They dropped the ball and you pay them their asking price. You did nothing wrong... it is not like you were the one that did the lady things and switch the items or switch the price for you to take advantage of them and force them to get less. Be a reseller and make that money. Note: I also stated in the response that you did the right human with a good heart would or should do. Lol

      And likely, if parked close by, would put My Box in the car while waiting for her to produce box two. But then I’ve been on the other side as well. I remember one of our large community sales where I took the pricing gun and put the same low price on a table full of empty small tool boxes (the type with the lift out tray and carry handle) to shift them.
      Mid morning a buyer walked up with one of them and held out the cash and asked: Did I realize that one had a bunch of sockets and tools in it? I hadn’t, but my response was to take the loss and sell it for the marked price. Saw the guy back the next year too, and the next…..

    I would have paid the $10 and when she said that I would have said let me take this to my car and then I will come back. It is the seller's responsibility to look at what is being purchased

    Ethics aside, be aware that in most places no receipt or bill of sale means you don't own it. If you buy a big ticket item insist on some proof or they could report it stolen after the sale. Exchanging money is often not legal proof.

    • @WellnessWizdom
      @WellnessWizdom Před 29 dny

      Then the person reporting it stolen better have a receipt, otherwise they don't own it either.

    Whilst I've not much attended garage, yard nor church sales in years as I was in authorized chain supply I'd see more unethical behavior at such sales almost inconceivable. Many proprietors of sales have no clue as to resale values and not to put too fine a point on it are taken advantage of. Yet, if some buyer online takes advantage of them as sellers... Well, whole different scenario then isn't it? Really? No its not.
    If the sellers were not sellers and say mom and dad's estate sale or downsizing sale had their parents taken advantage of, Tiffany Lamps, Jewelry, Toys no matter the products by people who are buying it with the intent to make money how would they feel?
    Often in chats or forums you'll hear sellers complaining about buyers who make "lowball offers" yet these same people at others sales who dont tend to know sale value do the exact same thing. Reailty of ethics, most sellers want ethics and enforcement upon buyers yet when sourcing they just throw that book right out the window. Bottom line folks, truth is truth and that is inescapable.

    In the past we accidentally sold a woman's brand new coat at a yard sale for $1 because she had left it in the van with all the other stuff we were bringing. Felt bad about that.

    Could just reconcile in my mind that Hey! Maybe there is* another box of Joe's somewhere and said OK yeah go find them I'm going to load my paid for stuff into my vehicle brb....orrrr if I felt compelled to say I think this box is the one u speak of after they reprice it say OK you do realize I could've just left w this so hit me w a 75% off minimum and I guess that could be good enuff for everyone....in the moment it would basically be a split second snap decision what to do tho.
    If it looked to me like that box was just priced incorrectly amd I already paid for it then I'd say that's how the cookie crumbles n I have a huge score...if I was dude who gave her the box back I would frequent as many of her sales as possible bc she will remember that and could pay off w great deals down the road....

    It was her job to inventory the box before the purchase. I agree with Lonnie that he owned the box but I would have told her and negotiated hard to bring it within fair value.

    Since she mentioned it I would have done the same thing, even though my better self would have known the right thing to do would be to tell her even if she didn't. Maybe my guilt genne would have kicked in anyway, guess it depends if she seemed like a jerk or not, if she was likeable I would have told her. If she was Candace definitely would have told her, Lonnie? Definitely maybe.

    I also wonder what she priced them at after the fact and if they actually sold for her for her price or did they sit there all day and in the end she took a much lower offer for them.

    Those "all sales are final" signs work both ways, just try returning something you bought then found out it was broken. Nope. Once you buy it it's yours. I would be honest, but not ask if they wanted it back. Instead I'd say something like Oh, I think I just bought those, can I give you $ x.xx dollars for the extra stuff?

    Ya but on the flip side she raised the price to a unreasonable amount after she was being ETHICAL, I would have said they were in there but ya they owned it at that point I would have gave them a option to reprice to a reasonable amount for them and the buyer the whole situation was unfair to the reseller

    I would have asked to see the (other) GI Joe box. There might have been another one. If she couldn't find it, then I would have said something about the GI Joe's in the box he bought. Also, if he already paid for the box then it's his. He didn't even have to say what else was in the box. Not sure how i would have played this.......hmmmmm

  • @jabezcreed

    Because she mentioned the other box, i might have some the same thing as the commenter. But as a reseller, aren't your every day buys taking something a person can't sell to make a profit on your end? I wouldn't feel bad for a second if that happened in real life.

  • @wishlistrose
    @wishlistrose Před 28 dny

    I paid already and owned them at that point so I’d ask her to pay me at least double

  • @OriginalNethead
    @OriginalNethead Před 29 dny

    My answer would be different if she'd said something before money changed hands. Once that happens it's too late. Game over, end of story. I think somebody did something shady and the reseller was punished even though he wasn't there. The reseller could simply have paid and walked and probably should have. I'd have said I never saw a second box, just this one. The reseller didn't move the box contents and the seller didn't check to see what she was selling. On her own head be it. I've been in that position a few times and it sucks but it happens. My ethical standards are usually pretty tight, but she essentially STOLE those action figures from the reseller.
