The screen being the only screen on the market to reach 616ppi is incredible in itself. The buttons are responsive and the sound awesome. Plays all gba, gbc, and gb games with the option to use the SD card for laser precise emulation on what it plays. Overall a real premium device for any retro gamer supporting both cartridges and emulation. No device on the market can provide that. I have the red cherry Starburst version 😆. I also have the rg405 m. When it come to accurate emulation the pocket wins hands down.
The Analogue Pocket is such a slick device. From what I understand, the screen that the console uses has such great pixel density because it was initially manufactured for VR headsets.
I've had mine since late 22 but only started playing it recently when the screen modes and arcade games were added. I bought the dock and a stick to play the arcade games on my TV and I'm really enjoying it. The Amiga implementation alone makes it worth the money also. I think I'll sell one of my Amigas because I prefer playing those games on Pocket now.
In my country, analogue pocket price is equivalent to buying 3 brand new ps5 and maybe 2 -3 AAA barand new game. I know nostalgia comes with a price, but well.
What a beautifully made video. Really enjoyed that. With shipping, taxes and import duty on top of a poor currency exchange rate, I'm still finding this console to be out of my budget here in the UK. It is a very nice looking console though.
Thank you so much! That means a lot. Yeah, it's such a shame that import costs and exchange rates make the console prohibitively expensive for you and many others out there.
I've had my black one for over a year now, love it! I wish the dock was half the price they sell it for. Would like to check out the games on a newer tv.
Great video. This thing looks amazing, but I have an RG350M already and I can't see myself buying this to actually play games on it. I sold off all my physical GB/GBA games 20 years ago, so I'd basically just be using it for emulation. Thanks for the detailed information, you basically answered every thought I had about it in my head.

I used Funny Playing components in my GBA mod and it's been pretty good. Next time I do a GBA mod though, I'm gonna get an aluminum shell for extra durability.
The prices are ok on their website but scalpers buy them all up and sell them locally for three times the cost. People in Toronto be selling them for $650 a piece
Love this video dude! Keep up the great work! I’m from the UK, would you recommend picking up a used analogue pocket if I have to? I want to make some Pokémon silver content 😊
I'm loving my AP. Such a great way to enjoy my Neo Geo Pocket Colour and Lynx games in crispy upscaled glory via the Adapter set + TV Dock. And of course GameBoy and GBA games. I'll no doubt start investigating the arcade cores, but for now, having a one stop device to play the above in addition to my PCE/TG16 HuCards is so awesome. Expensive, but i couldn't resist it...
I bought one such a great handheld only issue i had was in order to get games to work they had to be super clean on the pins on my gameboy colour games work no issue but pocket refused to load intill i clean it pristine
I ended up getting one a few months ago. Don't regret it. I'm shocked no one has made a similar device in the shape of a gba yet with cheaper materials. I assumed there'd be a dozen cheaper copycats by now but those never came. It's currently my favorite way to play my cartridges. Just wish the dpad was a bit better.
Good luck trying to find one, last year in mid November I was snooping around their website right when they opened and got super lucky unfortunately the colors were selling out quick got myself Red looks cool. I also bought myself a Everdrive Mini and finally took the times to learn the ancient secrets of ROMs. The Analogue Pocket loads ROMs easily the Everdrive does to but with a little help still playing gen 3 Pokémon without battery rot is just so fun
Actually they’re pretty readily available, they’re in stock rn. I was going to purchase one a few weeks ago but they sold out thankfully I only had to wait a week for another restock, they’re not that hard to get anymore
I would buy it if it had a speed up feature. I love emulating pokemon but the grind can get very boring, a fast forward option is pretty necessary for me
A small but important correction: FPGA implementations aren't inherently more accurate than software emulation. It's really dependent on the implementation. An FPGA implementation can be less accurate than a cycle-accurate software emulator.
So someone that doesn’t have any cartridges and has their steam deck set up to emulate shouldn’t buy one then right? I really like the new limited editions out in aluminum but don’t know if I should commit to getting one
Unless you have money to burn, then no, it's not worth it. The aluminum one is $500 bucks, which is only $50 less then a 512 Deck OLED. You can emulate up to PS2 on Deck, and also have a robust PC library thanks to the Steam and GOG store fronts. It makes no sense to buy an AP from a financial perspective. But again, if money isn't tight for you, then who cares? Buy the aluminum pocket. I have a regular one and it's a pretty decent portable device - not perfect by any means, but it's my only emulation device and it works well enough.
Maybe I am missing something here, but instantly creating and loading save states... Is not a first of it's kind feature???? Old GB, GBA, and SNES emulators from like... 2001 could do this. The NSO emulators on switch could do this back in 2017... I'm confused????
I was on the fence recently to buy one but wow the shipping costs to Europe are just insane. And then there’s also added VAT and import duties. So sadly a no for me. But it such a desirable device.
I'm not sure why there is a year attached the question. The AP is only capable of playing anything 20-25-ish or more years old and will be revalent for a long time. I looked into getting a NES, SNES, looked in to doing HDMI mods and getting Everdrive flash carts. Just the NES alone could be over $500 itself. I looked into the MiSTer too but that alone cost $500-$700 easily, however, MiSTer FPGA is branching into PS1, Sega Saturn and N64, systems that the AP just can't do. With their upcoming FPGA N64 clone, they wouldn't be making a pocket capable of N64 any time soon. Yeah the AP only can do save states for a few cores, but if you were to get a real SNES and bring it to the modern age, you wouldn't either. There is a community driven handheld FPGA device in the works but it won't match the AP. There is the FPGA GameBoy Color from Funny Playing that looks pretty cool. As an owner of IPS modded GB, GBC and GBA, the AP is hands down the best option and cheaper that all three. I also have 2x 8bitdo controllers of SNES, NeoGeo, Sega Saturn and PC Engine. The SNES are originally for original SNES but they can be flashed to work directly with the AP Dock. The Sega Saturn and PC Engine style controllers can but then you lose the ability to use them via USB adapters or wired on other systems. I would say it you are a stickler for accuracy, AP all the way. If you're not too concerned with accuracy and was to play games on CD systems like Sega CD through Wii, then there are some nice emulation handhelds for $150 to $200-ish.
Its true, i bought one two months ago. One of the limited edition models with color. The D-Pad is hard and has missclicks on diags, otherwise its a nice handheld..def overpriced though.
What a bizarre comment, man. A number of people liking the same element of a video doesn't automatically make them paid bot accounts. People on CZcams are going to comment on things they like about a video or find to be of quality. It's just the nature of CZcams. Not everything is a conspiracy. And if you don't agree with those people, you're allowed and more than welcome to feel that way! Also, I don't even know how bot accounts work, or if that's even possible on CZcams. Even if i did, I'd never implement that, because I find astroturfing to be pretty disgusting on a moral level. I'm just a videographer and editor who also likes video games
@@ShiveringPixel the comments looked suspiciously generic. If you didn't pay for a bot service, good for you. I didn't mean it as an attack. It's just something I noticed
Not worth the price. A modded gameboy advance with a backlit screen and usb charger is the way to go. My analog pocket stays at home mostly its just too expensive to take out 400$ is crazy 😂
It bothers me so much that this thing has four face buttons when all eight systems it supports had two. It wants to be a premium love letter to 90s handhelds but it rejects a universal design principle of the era so that it can run pirated SNES roms like a $30 no-name emulation handheld.
It's only worth it if you're a dedicated collector. If you're just someone who wants to play games, then it's not even close to being worth it. Even if you're a collector, have dealing with Analouge's anti-consumer purchasing process and scalpers. It's such a shame too, because it is an amazing piece of hardware.
To be honest, unless you are specifically using one the Analogue special features, like making music for example, I genuinely don't think it's worth it. You can buy and refurbish a GBA with a new shell, buttons, an IPS screen, and a USB C Mod, and buy an FPGBC (Basically a new GBC in 2024 that uses the same system that Analogue uses with the pocket) all from FunnyPlaying for less than the price of the Pocket, all while guaranteeing that the color ways and such are always in stock.
The Pocket would still be less hassle, though (assuming they're in stock...) and unlike the FP GBC emulation on the Pocket is currently a lot more bug free. Personally for me the draw was mostly the ability to have everything in one device and then be able to play it on the go or on TV seamlessly by just docking it. Also sadly the USB-C mods are still pretty questionable as the charging circuit usually ends up directly sandwiched to the battery, which is not good for the cell with the heat development during charging. Though for example the frog boy color does that much better, as does the FP FPGA GBC, so I'm hoping GBA mods can follow suit at some point, too. Surely there's enough space in the shell to move the charging circuit elsewhere.
No. You can't buy it on official store. So the only option will be scalpers. Analogue is the worst gaming company in terms of customer service. It's limited and underpowered asf. I don't give a damn about fpga and how it's being hyped as the second coming of jesus. An RP3 plus, AyN odin 2 and other newer retro emulation handhelds are far more capable and powerful. You can stream games, browse web, play videos, music and far widef selection of more powerful consoles to emulate. Even Switch and windows games can be emulated now. If you really want to play those old cartridges, get a modded gameboy. Heck, there's an alternative FPGA handheld right now that is out.
@@waltlock8805It had a really good screen dimension for those games. Even the miyoo mini plus can be a better option. I can pretty much emulate the DMG and CRT shaders with tinkering on retroarch. So I just don't care that much of Analogue's high ppi screen. Analogue's screen and FPGA gimmick are cool. But the amount of money and trouble they're asking for in return is just not worth it.
None of the GBA or GBC mods come close to the quality of the display and speakers in the Pocket, and the delta is even bigger for the other systems supported via adapter. The draw for analogue systems are not how powerful they are or how many other things they can do, it's all about the premium crap like the display, extremely low input latency and the ease of use. Why would "can browse the internet, play music/ videos" even matter for a gaming device? You have a phone that's easier to hold and does the same stuff, not everything needs Spotify and CZcams support to be worth consideration.
@@RAHelllord Oh wow, display and speakers. I'm sure that's worth more than the ability to play 3ds, ds,playstation, switch, ps2, gamecube, wii and even pc games. You overhype those stuff as if it's the second coming of jeebus lmao. No. That beautiful screen is limited on under-powered systems. With the exception of neo geo which is admittedly a 2d beast. "Why would "can browse the internet, play music/ videos" even matter for a gaming device? You have a phone that's easier to hold and does the same stuff, not everything needs Spotify and CZcams support to be worth consideration." Because I want to save my phone's battery. It's still better to have those options than not have anything at all. Specially if you want to browse for roms or play for retro achievement. Internet also allowed emulators like citra and other consoles for multiplayer without using a puny cable. There's also this thing called game streaming lmao.
Short answer, no. Especially now there is a way cheaper fpga gameboy. Forgot the name, but that's worth it over this. It's made by Funny playing. But this is just overkill
@@otterdonnelly9959 aren't they? Both are fpga ganeboys, both are handheld and both can probably do music. What are the benefits that the analogue pocket has that's worth twice the price?
@@teneesh3376 even an OLED GBC screen can’t compare to the Pocket’s screen. That’s #1 and maybe the most important thing. Games never looked this good on any other hardware. FPGBC cannot play GBA, NES, Genesis, SNES, Wonderswan, NeoGeo, TurboGrafx16/PC-Engine, or CPS1/2 and various other arcade boards along with carts for many of these systems. Plus it is dock-able and works with Bluetooth controllers. The Pocket’s competition is more in line with a MISTer than any modded GBC/GBA or FPGC, or emulation device. And this beats MISTer (a $500-$800 device) in portability and only loses in post PS1 compatibility or streaming cores so you can play MSU hacks. Would be cool if the FPGBC had at least a SNES core. The Pocket is the perfect middle ground. You only want GBC? fine get a FPGBC (I plan to build some). You want any pre Dreamcast console instantly available in near perfect accuracy right now with the most customization options? Get a MISTer. You still want to use cartridges from your collection, play your games on the best screen possible, and play virtually any system pre 1995 portably WHILE still being able to use a link cable with legit Gameboys? Get a Pocket.
Very minimally. The GBA core has a "high quality audio" setting, but this setting really just reduces the GBA's audio hiss in certain situations. There's little discernable difference overall.

Are you can used funny playing gameboy color however a lot less games you can play on it
Epilogue GB Operator and Geek Tech Premium FRAM cartridges.
Costs more than a rabbit r1.
It bothers me so much that this thing has four face buttons when all eight systems it supports had two. It wants to be a premium love letter to 90s handhelds but it rejects a universal design principle of the era so that it can run pirated SNES roms like a $30 no-name emulation handheld.
You do realize you can dump your own roms, not all roms are pirated, the analogue pocket is sooo much more than an emulation handheld
they are always sold out smh
Restocking today
It's only worth it if you're a dedicated collector. If you're just someone who wants to play games, then it's not even close to being worth it. Even if you're a collector, have dealing with Analouge's anti-consumer purchasing process and scalpers. It's such a shame too, because it is an amazing piece of hardware.
Did he say Ambernic wrong?
How do you get games on it?
You put the game cartridge into the system and turn it on lol.
It wasnt worth it when it came out, it def is not worth it in 2024
To be honest, unless you are specifically using one the Analogue special features, like making music for example, I genuinely don't think it's worth it.
It's not 10 times the resolution of the original game boy, but 100 times (10 x 10).
No
no get a real GBC with a q5 mod
I just bought one on Friday, shipped same day.
If you want to play GameBoy and GBC stuff, there are many options out there for far less money. RGB30 comes to mind.
You have a phone that's easier to hold and does the same stuff, not everything needs Spotify and CZcams support to be worth consideration."
Because I want to save my phone's battery. It's still better to have those options than not have anything at all. Specially if you want to browse for roms or play for retro achievement. Internet also allowed emulators like citra and other consoles for multiplayer without using a puny cable.
There's also this thing called game streaming lmao.
EVERY FPGA LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
This device sucks ,extortionate, thank god for funnyplaying and their fpga
No, it's an overpriced underpowered device.
It's always out of stock, so I can't determine if it's worth buying since they've decided it's no longer worth selling.
No OLED no buy. You can keep that 30-40ms lag.
Why are we worried about 30ms on a gameboy lmao what are you playing on it cod
Short answer, no. Especially now there is a way cheaper fpga gameboy. Forgot the name, but that's worth it over this. It's made by Funny playing. But this is just overkill
Yes there is overlap but the Pocket and the FPGBC aren’t for the same audience.
@@teneesh3376 tl;dr FPGBC is more of a competitive threat to the second hand Gameboy market or modded Gameboys
It's not worth it even at start of selling.
Never has been.
The GBA had awful sound quality. Does the Analogue Pocket alleviate that at all?
Very minimally. The GBA core has a "high quality audio" setting, but this setting really just reduces the GBA's audio hiss in certain situations. There's little discernable difference overall.
