"some pathetic ballpoint" I am loving the shade
yvoi OHHHH YOU JUST GOT ROASTED PEN!!
well... I can write waaaay better than all of you with a "pathetic BIC ballpoint" so I think this guy is the pathetic, he need a real good pen to write like that (awful handwriting)
@@speedyspin imagine judging someone for their bad handwriting. People can write how they want, and they can prefer whatever pen they want. Personally, I despise ballpoint pens, and the closest i'll get to one is a rollerball. My handwriting's pretty bad, and i like fountain pens because they're just so nice to write with and look at. compared to the quality of a fountain pen, a cheap ballpoint would indeed be "pathetic."
@@speedyspin
"quirky" 5th grade girls: *amateurs*
Just Some Mustache Without A Guy a lot of people prefer a cheap ballpoint... why pathetic? A pen made for different reasons... why is that pathetic?
It's 3am and I'm watching a pen review channel
This is how to do a fountain pen review. GREAT views from above and side. Great narration. NO FLUFFY Stuff. NO pounding, throbbing music. Seriously, thank you. I'll subscribe and hit "like" as soon as I finish this sentence. Hope to see more. ps, have you reviewed the Pilot vanishing point pen?
I LOVE this ink color!
You had me at the Superman shirt, but I love the detailed and intuitive explanation. Subscribed!
Great review, you've confirmed my first (what I would call) high end fountain pen.
Why are you putting thumbs down in such an interesting and well done video? I liked this video very much
Vecchia Guardia Stilografica The ballpoint users are giving thumbs down.
@@rknine7998 well... Im pretty sure that my handwriting is waaaaay better and Using a Bic ballpoint ... so I think the thumbs down is for the simple reason of listen a guy with an awful handwriting using such a beautiful pen.
Ciao.
RAAAYOS Really? You copied your own snarky comment just to say it again? Stay out of this channel please.
Probably the broke boys that saw the price tag lol
Beautifully realized. Thanks for the in-depth. Another fine tool added to my pen and ink drawing arsenal. Now I just need to work on being able to write cursive with your panache!
After watching this video I had to buy a bottle of this pilot ink. When I'm ready to buy this pen, I will purchase it from you. Thank you for your great review and honest opinions
Have you ever considered doing a video for pens under the $25 margin for us broke individuals.
+Nibsmith okay that's alright. But is there any pen that you would highly recommend that's under about 100 dollars?
***** Cool! I will check them out, thanks!
Noah Shands The Lamy Safari is a great starter pen for around that price range.
Pilot metropolitan
the shands....fountain pen revolution sells ultra flex nibs for under $20, they are a number 6 nib so you can attach them to most fountain pens, including the jinhao 159, jinhao x450 and the jinhao 750 which are all under $10 and if you do some looking you can find a seller who sell it to you for $5 with free shipping
Thanks to you, I am totally convinced of acquiring this pen :)
I get that railroading is undesireable, but it does look really cool sometimes.
+Isaac Abee There are points in my writing when I WANT railroading. Like when I try to add importance to a word, I railroad to draw attention to it.
depending on what you are working on, you an make railroading work to your advantage...sparingly. I, too, think it looks cool in certain aspects
There's a very short but beautiful video on here somewhere with a skilled penman writing "love" with a gorgeously flexible nib (modified, I suspect) & he actually makes creative use of the railroading in his calligraphy. Go search it out, it's quite gratifying.
Not superinto pens, but I assume the real problem is when you cant control when you are railroading or not.
I actually have 3 Falcons (the original with Namiki (SM nib), the one you review here in SB, and the metal one (SEF nib) and I love all 3 so much! I agree with all of your comments. I also have the FA nib on a Pilot Custom 742 and I find that nib to be softer (wider variation) but the pen doesn't keep up as well as the Falcons - it railroads more. So I'll write with my Falcon's everyday - but the 742 is just for that special short greeting with lots of flex variation.
It's a WONDERFUL drawing pen!
i havent seen a better fountain pen video in a loong time :) I think you speak really well, and come to the point sooner than i have seen others do.
Thank you, i have a pen to aspire for. Have a great day ahead.
+Romi Dogra Thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback.
Nibsmith, can you send me a Falcon...?
Sure. How about a new computer, too? And a car? I'll put 'em all in the mail tonight.
Very true. And even if it a joke, it is very artlessly made.
I really like your well-made videos (and your voice).
It's not that Pilot is moving away from the Namiki name entirely, it's just that they are now branding only their highest level pens with the Namiki name, such as their bespoke and urushi pens (Yukari, Emperor, limited editions, etc.). While the Pilot Falcon is a fairly expensive pen, it's about mid range in the grand scheme of things and therefore part of Pilot's higher end offerings rather than elevated into the super luxury Namiki range.
The company was originally named Namiki and adopted Pilot when there was anti-Japanese sentiment after WWII, so it's nice to see that they are using the name now more proudly than ever.
I watched this video after reading the article. So much consistent deja vu.
Thanks Dan. Super nib, really impressed, and the price is also great!
Very fine, yet nice variation. Nice penmanship too by the way. Thanks for the review.
I was distracted by how good your cursive/penmanship/whatever was and didn't hear what you were saying.
Yes. It is very good. But you can watch it again when you have admired his penmanship to your fill :)
Really enjoyable videos, I think. I watched this one about 5 times spread over two weeks!
are you serious?????
Couldn't agree with you more. I have two SF, one SB, and a 742FA. The SFs are easily the best of the lot. Thanks for the spot-on review.
like this review, this is one of my favorites
One of my favourite pens on my wishlist ♡
Dan! You need to make more videos. I miss the reviews.
Wish I could!
Your writing is absolutely gorgeous lol
I really liked you handwriting with this pen.
EXCELLENT REVIEW!!!
I love your video. I love that you have the iroshizuku series behind you. I just got 3 large bottles myself. Please keep making these videos. I have to ask though, does the ink dry out in the converter when not in use for a long time?
Hey Dan. Thanks for another great video. I wanted to know if you took a calligraphy class or something, and if you recommend some techniques to get a classier cursive writing like you have.
Love your reviews
+Dee Dee Thank you!
Thank you.
What is that italian leather looking thing in the beginning of the video? I may need one if it's a pen case!
Hi Dan
just reminding you to do a review of the pilot custom 912 (fa nib ) . Will the railroading problem be solved if the pen is sent to a nib master ?
Love the video. Keep smokin bro
I really love the cursive script style you wrote in several of your pen reviews. Could you tell me the name of that script? Seeing you wrote it makes me really want to write it.
Great detailed review! So of course I have to subscribe now and get the pen itself lol. I see on engeika there is the Pilot Namiki Falcon Elabo - resin and metal versions. What does the Elabo designation mean in terms of Japanese market and North American market?
If you had to recommend one flexible fountain pen, what would it be? I've been looking for one for ages and while I'm really considering the Falcon, many review say it's not really flexible...
The Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with FA nib is a good modern flex, if not you have to look for vintage pens. A cheap and good one is the Noodlers Ahab
can u do a review of the pilot e95s?
My fa nib has cut outs on each side. I thought that's what a Falcon nib looked like.
I have the Pilot Custom heritage 912 with the fa nib. I love the Con 70 converter and the ability to flex to 2 to 3mm without much effort.
Beautiful writing.
Dan did u get the Mont Blanc 149 90th Anniversary because I'm eager for a review of that pen.
Where did you buy this Falcon? I really adore this pen and I hope to one day get it from a reliable source.
I am watching this on Feb 2020. Is it still available. I like its flex, which is just good enough.
I use Dryden which isn't flexible in the slightest, but if you take it slow and pressured, you can draw thick lines.
Dan, I was planning to get a Metal Falcon (Con 70 is a must and the metal barrel is a plus) Extra Fine tomorrow afternoon right until I saw your review. When you say that the extra fine nib is too scratchy, how scratchy are we taking? Is it a deal breaker? I do usually have smaller handwriting than yours in the video would that affect the perceived smoothness? Great penmanship and review by the way!
***** Just wanted to update you, I considered your advice and got a Pilot Falcon Fine and couldn't be happier! Thanks so much!
Love you handwriting style in this vid. Do you have any photo samples?
Is the Namiki Falcon fountain pen, good for writing quick and for writing long essays?
I really want to get into fountain pen collecting. They are so interesting to me! Sadly, I am still in school, so it's much harder to afford the pens, are there any a little more cheaper, beginner pens that you might suggest? I could really use the help! :)
Hi I got 15% off that was great!!! Getting my first falcon
What do you suggest a nib for everyday writing?
Thanks Dan for this review. I have problem deciding between Falcon SF and SEF. You said you tested metal namiki with SEF and I believe it's same nib as in Falcon SEF. Is SF more smooth when doing faster drawing and writing?
***** Big Thanks, this is what I was looking for! Thanks again, in this case it's SF :)
Is the nib demonstrated in the video a fine nib or the medium? Thanks!
Sir,
Excellent vid. You have earned yourself a subscription. Well done.
Mike
+Nibsmith
You're welcome!

Hi Dan - Great review. Yours was one of the reviews that drove me to purchase my own Falcon. The first one I received was very hard starting, had a lot of skipping and railroaded all the time. I had the nib replaced, and the new one works much better, but still skips and railroads from time to time. I get nowhere near the performance your pen shows in this video. I've flushed the pen, and tried several different inks. It is really inconsistent. On some forums, people suggest getting the nib tuned. Do you think my nib needs to be tuned, or is it possible I received two questionable nibs? I want to love this pen, as it is a joy to write with, but I find this pen very temperamental to be a daily carry. Do you have any suggestions??
Hopefully you resolved this by now (8 years old) - I had the same issue and also got another bad nib upon replacement. Pilot's QC has always been spotty, and it's one of the risks you take when you buy (what was then) a $180 pen.
I gave up on it, and sold it at a great loss (informed buyer of the issue), then waited until recently to buy one; new one is awesome.
Hi, sorry to ask that, (as it probably been asked a loooot of times) but, what is the size of the nib? It seems to me like a Medium nib when you write with it. Maybe you have quite a heavy hand...
Thanks for the vids btw. ;)
lovely handwriting
can you please do a review of the pilot custom 912 (fa nib ).if possible please compare it to the pilot falcon . which one do you preffer ?
Hi Dan
Will the pilot custom 823 falcon nib last my lifetime ? Or will the barrel crack after a decade or so ? I am a university student . How should I care for the pen fot it to last my lifetime ?
Thank You
sorry I'm a beginner in fountain pens.. which pen did u mean when u said "FA" and were comparing it to the falcon? ty
He meant the Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with "Falcon" nib
I regret buying so many expensive ballpens. Now, I only buy fountain pens.
Hello Dan!
I have a difficulty in understanding the name and the pen size (the size of the nib) in the video, because I'm not yet used to the spoken English (I have some difficulties), only I wonder if, in the link in the video description you left, is the same fountain pen, it would be exactly pen like in this video, or would otherwise be a diferent model / size? Thank you!
Thank you!
*****
Dan, the 10% discount still valid?
What are the other two fountain pens you recommend in the $150 price range? Thanks.
I have Parker vector, yours makes mine look like rubbish but I still love it
Pilot Decimo with a Medium nib.
18k gold with Rhodium plated nib and trim.
Nice handwriting.
Can i use it as eye dropper for long, regualr writing sessions
Glad I watched Now I need to check this out at home which color? Rhodium for sure Nib size ?
I will like the soft A new feel for me Usually a broad choice but will ask you.
Wow, you must have the entire line of Pilot's Iroshizuku bottled fountain pen ink on that shelf behind you, that stuff's expensive... Honestly I'm a bit jealous...
Does the FA nib do the brushstroke-like effect if you flip the nib over, the way the Falcon does? I'd like to buy both, but I have the budget for just one pen at the moment! =)
***** The Falcon it is, then. Thanks so much for clearing that up for me!
tiny brain: ball point pen
normal brain: fountain pen
super brain: sharpie pen
very stable genius: aggressive, fat zig-zag lines in extra wide sharpie
I literally searched up sharpie pen for calligraphy
Tiny brain= throwing shade at ballpoint pen users. I use fountain pens and ballpoint pens and my ego is secure enough to not feel self-conscious when I'm using ballpoints.
Fountain pens: better writers, more satisfaction while writing
Ballpoint pens: fastest and recommended in rough scenarios (less chance of ink stains)
@@bakkermaarten007 Writing woth a ballpoint makes my hand cramp lol. Forgotten to bring my pen, ended up borrowing a pen, realises why I hate ballpoints.
That's some really decent review, but since it is still 150 dollars, I will have to ensure a little bit. I would like to use this pen for everyday writing (school) as well as creating 'lighter' and little more fancy copperplate. Is this pen a good choice or would you rather consider something else for that purpose ( I would rather not spend more than that kind of money) ? I don't have much experience with 'semi-flex' but I heard a lot good about that particular one. Keep up the good work and thanks!
***** Thanks a lot for answers, helped me a lot! I think I will go for resin with fine nib, not to get too much ink flow during notes writing, since my letters 'sit' tight and I want them to be as clear as possible ;) Thanks once again, will write soon to tell You how do I feel with the new purchase :)
Just got one of these in soft extra fine. Not sure if I'm just a noob or have too hard of a hand but the nib seems super scratchy to me, even with no pressure. Using good Rhodia paper too. Disappointed because this pen seems to have such good reviews. Would it be worthwhile to send it back to Pilot for adjustment?
***** I already contacted penchalet, perhaps they'll let me do an exchange or something. We'll see...
Hi sir....I m a doctor..not an artist...just got into flex nibs.....which one will be better between namiki and waterman...however I saw eversharp Kingwood new old stock...what should I prefer
I use exclusively fp....I m ready to take that shit....whatever
can this pen be used on daily basis? as a regular writer?
Well, crap. Seems I'm gonna have to finally budge and get one.
I -really- love a soft, fine nib, but have been hesitating on getting one of these (Not sure why).
What’s the nib size you’re using when you fill the pen up and start writing? I’ve been wanting to get a Falcon but want to know which nib It is so I want to get and make sure it’s not a nib size i won’t like, the one you’re using appeals me and i want it too
is imprinted on the nib : Soft Fine.
Compared to the Platinum #3776 soft nib, which one is flex and tight?
They both feel very similar, but the Falcon probably provides more line variation.
Thanks. The platinum has any other benefit besides having a sealed closure?
Its nib is so unique
How much pressure do you apply before it flexes? Also, is this suitable for everyday use? Thanks!
***** I was planning on using it for notes and journaling. Thanks for the help!!
no waaay Im wearing that superman shirt as Im watching this lol
I got my Falcon for ~$115 brand new on Amazon.
Why am I so entertained by this... I have to get one
Would you consider doing a video showcasing all your capital letters? They are beautiful and I would love to adopt them into my handwriting.
I would very much appreciate that! Thanks for your time, I love the videos!
What is that leather notebook at :30 ?
what paper pad were you writing on
So what are your 3 recommend pens in this class?
+Steve Hardy Probably the Lamy 2000, Pilot CH92, and maybe the Pilot Vanishing Point.
wow the con 50 is such a good converter. i dont know why pilot discontinued it and replaced it with the con 40 converter. such a downgrade. but great vid
what fountain pen would you recommend for illustrations/drawings, and what kind of nib?
I recommend a Parker vector, but it may not produce the same quality as one of these pens because it is cheaper
thank you for the tip!
You should have used an ink with better shading capability for demonstration, like Diamine Autumn Oak. Yu-yake doesn't really shade.
How you write like that? Its beautiful
wow!...WOW! ..are you serious ?
I need it...
I have the same pen. In fact, it does *not* produces the line variation you showed in the video. I think you modified the nib, as you can clearly see at 1’10’’. I mean, you’re not writing with the standard nib that comes with the pen, but you forgot to mention it. (“But don't think twice, it's all right” - Bob Dylan).
I neeeeeeed this 👌
I have heard that you shouldn't push the nib that far as you do. and that it'll crakc overtime
Can you suggest any flex nib fountainpens that is cheap but good?
thank you
+Nibsmith thanks!
Dan, could you please review the OMAS NEW ART NAVY BLUE MILORD for your audience. It looks pretty good but who knows if its what its cracked up to be:)
could you please tell me where i can get this ink? It's so beautiful and I can't find something similar.
+nichtgeWesen That's Iroshizuku yu-yake available from lots of online retailers.
How about the magenta-ish ink he snuck in there, in between lines? It's lovely and I want it too!
It's very pretty, but I don't know which magenta he used.
Do pelikan M200 have a transparent black version?
***** Thanks.M200 in this color is perfect.低调奢华有内涵
Nice pen but I prefer mine with a bit of weight- actually find that style easier , more satisfying to write with than pens on the lighter side. The nib is unique.
Pilot does make this pen with a metal barrel that increases the weight significantly.
Can this pen be used for writing gothic? I'm asking because it provided good line variation.
+kacper b I'm not familiar enough with gothic writing to answer that.
I feel like you'd want a stub or italic nib, right?
It would be very small, given the relationship between downstroke width and letter height.
This pen & ink combo is top notch!
is it everyday use pen?
How much do these pens cost
