Good to see a new video from you! As usual your tips and tricks make your videos incredibly valuable for DIY rookies! Thanks for posting. Looking forward to lots more!
Hi Frankie. A perfect friday morning with a new video to watch. You walk through every step to follow and what to look for. Shame about the 3rd coat but hey, it happens. Channel content is awesome. Reccomended to friends and family all with boats. Thanks so much.
Good to see you again bro. The joy's of spraying outside . Rain, wind, bugs. But i love the Natural light, and lack of Dust i get spraying outside lol.
So glad you are back! What is your setup for your DA sander? Brand, backing pad etc? I finally bought a big ass compressor that will run anything and looking forward to moving to air for most of my stuff.
I've never seen vinyl stripe come off that easily (at least in the UK). Normally you have to use a heat gun and then every few inches the vinyl snaps it's become so brittle over time. 4 hours to do 30 foot boat to get one stripe off :p
So the the boat is from Va Beach and your denatured alcohol is from eastern burlap tells me you are working in my neck of the woods. I live in va beach va and get all my supply’s from eastern burlap. I’m building a 24 ft albemarle and will be ready for paint in a bout 2 months I will do all the prep if you want to do a video painting my boat.
Nice Job. Frankie! Im curious about what you do about keeping water condensation build up out your paint system. Va. gets pretty hot and humid in the summer. I'm on the fence as to weather I want to spray or roll
How much primer & top coat assuming three coats each would you expect to use on a boat like this? Really like your videos - just wondering how many imperfections you (or the owners) expect painting outside compared to inside or erecting a tent over the boat and using extraction? Presumably you'd spot repair any bug landings for example?
Hey Frankie, what exactly are you using to fix the deep scratches and gauges after sanding with 120? I have a 2003 17ft Carolina Skiff that has lots of deep gauges. What is best to use to fill? Thanks.
It usually takes 3 applications to get it right. Glaze it tight each time. Then after priming change up to the 3 m premium filler ( vinyl Lester ) then finish off with the 3m acryl glazing putty. After that you’re ready for paint 👌
Hey Frankie - Quick question. Is the thumb test between coats only for Awlgrip paints or can it be used for other brands? I'll be using Epifanes Monourethane and they say wait 24 hours betwwen coats and then sand with 400. I don't see you that in any of your videos. Thanks in advance.
I’m in Virginia. Most of my family is up north. ( Michigan, pa, Ohio ). I know of a bunch of bushongs that are south ( Louisiana area) not sure if there’s a relation or not but I would think there is somewhere along the line.
This guy blows my mind with knowledge, experience, skill and dogged tenacity. Amazing results
Man your killing it , got nothing but respect for a painter , so much work in preparation and paint , awsome videos
Can't tell you enough how much I appreciate no commercials! Thanks for that Frankie! 🍻

Nice Job! What adhesive remover do you use?
Out of curiosity, what do you charge for a job like this?
Amazing work, sir!
😮😮

Awlfair. It’s great stuff with plenty of working time. 2 part epoxy 👌

@@boatpaintingrestorationwit3029 Do you need to mix it or use it straight out of container.
Chris Smollen mix it. It’s 1to1/ half and half. It’s the best stuff to use in my opinion
Another great instructional. Many thanks for sharing and hi from Australia. Can I ask how you estimate quantity of paint for a job?
I guess most of the time. Lol. 40 ft or less = a gallon. ( cheapest to buy a gallon in the long run) Anything over. Get two gallons to be safe.
@@boatpaintingrestorationwit3029 Thanks for the tip

Where you from bro? Not many of us Bushong's in the US and almost all of us are related somehow.
I’m in Virginia. Most of my family is up north. ( Michigan, pa, Ohio ). I know of a bunch of bushongs that are south ( Louisiana area) not sure if there’s a relation or not but I would think there is somewhere along the line.
Hey Frankie if you had to use an electric sander what would be your top preference.. suggestion brand /type?
Porter cable variable speed D.A. They work great and it’s what I use when I don’t have access to air👌👌
Is there any reason why you don't use an air file on those big sections
D. A. Is the way to go unless needed 👌
Did you remove caulking from lower edge of rub rail? Thanks for the videos!
I removed what I could. Sanded up to it and after paint it will all get recaulked. It was a absolute mess. Lol
ALWAYS wear hearing protection when sanding, or you’ll end up with tinnitus as a senior.
It is HORRIBLE!
I wish someone had warned me…
What works best for filling drilled holes?
What about the ferro cement boat you were working on? Any update planned?
Yes. It’s stowed away undercover in the big shop. I’ll be getting back on that soon.
Ok I see you have answered this question already.
What was the name of the two glaze that you mixed ? Thank you Frankie
By wet rag you just mean the cloth is wet with the 3m product?
Yes
What sander are you using?
Dynabrade
