China demands end to US-Taiwan military contact, urges US to earnestly abide by one-China principle

  • AFP: According to reports, the US and Taiwan “navies” conducted some joint drills in the Pacific last month. Can you confirm that?
Wang Wenbin: I noted that there is report saying that the US and Taiwan vessels had “unplanned encounters.” I want to stress that China is firmly opposed to the US’s military contact with Taiwan. This position is consistent and unequivocal. We urge the US to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués and stop its wrong behavior of having military contact with Taiwan. We also have a clear message for the DPP authorities: seeking “Taiwan independence” and resisting reunification with force is bound to fail. They can be assured of that.

First of all the PRC has demonstrating great restraint knowing that there have been US military troops on the island of Kinmen, which is controlled by Taiwan, conducting military training (and other imaginable activities as well, since Kinmen is close to Xiamen). First, the US should remove its military presence. Second, stop selling weapons and fighters. The US is putting itself where it might face an aspect of the "security dilemma" sooner than it likes. To reference the title of Hugh White's article, "Biden risks talking himself into a war he cannot win". The US policies towards the PRC has been broadcasted quite clearly, military containment (with all the bases from S. Korea and Japan, to Guam, Philippines and friendly places to base such as the norther territory of Australia). Taiwan is a pawn for the US to move around for its self-interests. The US has played a game of "One China Policy" on one hand, but on the other hand "sell defensive weapons and fighters". The US continues to upset the "status quo apple cart" and thinks it can get away with it. There are members of the US Congress who are ready to recognize Taiwan's independence. It is unfortunate because the US is creating more situations where conflict might not be avoidable. The only thing that might move the US from its path is if its allies in the region say that they will not participate in a US led operation on behalf of Taiwan.

Yup! A slew of good outcome strategies to safeguard oneself instead of engaging in a physical war with your enemy is clever and wise. Sun Tze: to subdue your enemy without firing a shot, you win hundred battles//.
China is not allowing it's enemy to derail it's economy now or ever.

@@user-kg9rb5dc7w I appreciate the sentiment, However, the evidence is out there for all to read, and stop the 'manufacturing of consent' conducted by the US government and US Corporate Media. I would suggest people to start asking the question, "If the US is unwilling to engage Russia directly in defense of Ukraine, why would it engage in a direct conflict with China over Taiwan?" If this Biden's and the US Congress attempt to bluff in the game of brinkmanship, the warning for the US should be, "Do not position yourself where the other side calls your bluff." If people want evidence of what I referred to with regards US troops in Taiwan (controlled islands of Taiwan) don't look at the US network news, but to Taiwanese news outlets. They are boasting about it. They themselves (to use an Oz reference) pulled the curtain open on this one.
