  • Use high quality paper and take a moment to appreciate the paper with your mind and hands. I use my hands and arms to locate the edges of my composition. Start by marking the upper edges and widest edges of your design to ensure a reasonable consistency to your drawing. Retrace your drawing with watercolour pencils and begin the wonderful process of adding water and watercolour.
Original watercolours available on my website and lots of journals created from my watercolour paintings - you can own an original Marion Chapman watercolour and enjoy the textural aspects of the 100% cotton rough textured paper combined with heaps of ways to record your life or your thoughts or photos or any ephemera that you love to collect. www.marionchapmanartist.com/

Marion - I have a question - when you create a piece like this - is it with the intention of selling it or is it purely for the fun and creativity?

Hi Anne, such a great question. When I created this painting, I would have intended to sell it especially because it is large. However, I rarely exhibit any more and so it sits in a pile of lovely works that will be repurposed. Maybe into a journal cover, maybe as a background for collage. maybe some friend or relative will like it and they can have it. These days, I create for the fun of it and for CZcams tutorials. It's a big question, lol. How about you?

@@MarionChapmanArtist - I started out painting in the 90's doing Folk Art. Stopped in 2006 when life with kids and work got too busy. When my husband became ill in 2014 with Brain Cancer I found a few acrylic artists on CZcams and started painting again to relax and for my mental wellbeing. After he passed I decided to continue and start selling at Craft Fairs. I really enjoy doing Fairs - but they are a lot of work. I started doing Watercolor a couple years ago - and I love it. Way more than acrylic. But I craft/paint everyday. I am in the process of moving back to Nova Scotia from Manitoba - so once I am settled I will start painting again. I won't do it to sell anymore - just paint for myself - and maybe find ways of donating my artwork or giving it away for the cost of postage. Art is in my blood and it's my happy place. Whether I make money from it or not - doesn't matter. I love the way you create - so relaxing and freeing. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent and knowledge.

Art is so good for mental well-being, it takes me out of myself. I’m so sorry that you’ve had to bear that load and appreciate you sharing your journey. I’ve done markets too and agree they are a lot of work and I’ve had great success at some. Thanks so much for your encouragement!!!

My life would be dismal if I could create something every day. 😊
