All his running scenes are iconic but that Mission Impossible 3 climax running scene is so well-shot, it gives a brilliant sense of speed, panic & urgency and no others of his running scene has been able to pull that off!
Agreed, the MI3 canal run in all one moving shot is unmatched. The only thing that even comes close is the sequence when he's chasing after Walker.

I was just about to say the same thing. The flowing and single shot of it just makes it very iconic.
Every time I watch it, I can't believe how long it goes on! He's mentioned before that he has to do multiple takes of his stunts...I often wonder how many of these extended running scenes have multiple takes.

@@xshxrI never support the Scientology thing but that doesn’t make Tom Cruise any less than a legendary actor. There is no other actor right now who plans and executes action films the way he does. He doesn’t act in a regular film rather builds the movie for the cast. The scientology thing affected Nicole and Katie and the kids but what’s important is that they are now free from that and living their life. Tom hasn’t married again so no one else is having to go through that stuff. Maybe because of his beliefs he can’t keep contact with his own kids anymore but at least he gave them a choice to walk away instead of forcing Scientology on them …. So why focus on Scientology when the original comment is focussing on the film. Talking of unsubscribing because of that sounds childish to me…. Nevertheless, Scientology or not, No denying he is one of the greatest and bravest actors out there, even simply for the fact that he goes to suvh depths to create something so unique and dangerous. Yet it’s not a random dangerous stuff, he trains, studies and commits beyond his professional requirement to create a safe environment for him and more importantly his costars, so they don’t get hurt while performing those scenes. He ensures safety in that Danger.

@@aman_2002 It's definitely not CGI. They showed the making of that run in the making-of of the film, do check it out! They even measured the speed with which he was running. He was running 1100 feet with the speed of 17 miles an hour in that run!

I could imagine Rebecca Ferguson had a blast being able to actually share a running scene with Tom in Rougue Nation. Kudos to Tom for pacing himself a little bit too. It speaks to how he treats the script and Ethan as a character. His teammates (and castmates) are always respected and never undermined or shown up by Ethan or in the script. That's part of why I really love these movies.

You can clearly see the difference between the first two movies where he runs with his arms flailing like a madman and the rest of the movies where he really commits to the action - the upper posture, tight arms, the dedication he puts into every step... Tom Cruise really puts his heart into every detail of the movie he's in. For us.
I like to see those movies as his rookie years as a spy. From the part 3 now that's a highly trained spy instructor in his full glory. 😊😊

@_CharlieH right. Some of those shots were rather long in that scene. Just leaps over some of the Shanghai locals and keeps going lol. Probably covered 300-400 m in one of those shots, which alone is close to a quarter mile
@@jtangg5161 that’s insane. The fact that Ethan constantly says “excuse me” and “get out of the way” when he’s running through crowds and Tom had to learn the Chinese for those. I’m Chinese and I was kinda surprised he spoke chinese. It was at that point where I just assumed he’s something else, and in ghost protocol when he sketched a face of a man perfectly on his palm in 5 seconds I thought to myself, of course he draws, because what else does he do 💀
Not in the next 20 years more there will be any other actor as energetic as Tom Cruise at the age of 60. He looks so young, and still fresh as he was 30 years ago.

Its the same thing when there are any car chase scenes, and to make the stunt look dangerous, the other cars are made to go at just 10-20mph, and the stunt car at 30-40mph... But due to the shaky camera, and motion blur, it feels like it's going 100+mph...
