  • Deciding whether or not to breed crested geckos? David from ‪@TikisGeckos‬ and I go over everything you should know before starting!
This is meant to be an all encompassing beginners guide to breeding crested geckos aimed at helping someone decide whether or not they want to start. David and I talk about everything from learning in depth about the care of these animals, to where to start once you have hatchlings ready to sell.
Crested Gecko breeding can be massively rewarding in ways that have nothing to do with money. If you're thinking about getting into it for the money, hopefully this can serve as a reality check for the kind of commitment it is before ever getting started!
Massive thank you to David for being willing to jump on here and do this with me having never talked to me at all before. I really hope this can help some people out in their journey!

If I could ever breed reptiles I would love to specialized in Savannah monitors because it is just about impossible to find them captive bred. And that is because within their first year in captivity they're morbidity rate is insanely high even more so for the females than the males. I will of course leave that to the breeding experts. I just think they would have a much better chance of survival in captivity if they were captive bred. From what I understand and what I've studied and researched the conditions in which they are brought from Africa to the United States are incredibly cruel and torturous and horrifically inhumane. I'm all for the expansion of the hobby. However in the majority of the imported reptiles and especially the importation of Savannah monitors and probably Nile monitors as well, am dead set against it. I believe that importation should be stopped immediately at least until more humane practices are firmly in place. Sorry to get on my soapbox that I have trouble sleeping at night sometimes because of what I have learned. For me like humans, any living being should be valued and considered much more than a disposable commodity and that more consideration and thought should be put into their well-being than the profit margin. That's all I have to say carry on.
