I also have both models. And I'd say there's absolutely no play in my LESU model (I painted and assembled it myself). So probably, the person who built your model, messed something up.
As for the powerful motors in the LESU, I wouldn't hold my breath for them too much to be honest. The design of their commutator is pretty bad which leads to intermittent shorts at some angles. I had one of my motors replaced by the seller because it would even constantly trip over-current protection of a Sabertooth 12x2. A new motor greatly reduced the problem, but did NOT eliminate it, only shared impact with the other motor equally. To eliminate that problem, I had to remove the brushes and carefully grind a tiny layer off of them to make them sort of thinner. Yes, it introduced a little play to them in the shaft, but it's not a big deal because they are held straight by the commutator itself and a spring on top. On the other hand, it's the only way to eliminate excessive current draw due to constant shorting/sparking on their edges that are in immediate contact with the commutator.

Yep, there is a huge difference size and age in the 1:1 world between the T300 and the T770 machines. The T770 being a next and newer series.

great review of both Im kinda liking the simplicity of the lxy on a few things like battery size and location. my brand new Lt5h I got on trade was built by previous owner. I am going through it now. He had mentioned that his drive escs one was bad from start. so instead of waiting for new ones overseas he replaced them with the hw 1625. doing that he had to keep the cab inners out which left a bigger space to fit battery 1300 3s. downside to that is I dont like the 1625's because they have a built in brake between f/r with no options of setting esc different. Its a great model just going trough it corks such as Im also replacing the lines. I fell like his were cut a few mm short which made them not route in the boom brackets. If to do that they would be too tight on full raise.

Servonaut makes a track drive esc that’s compact. Brake feature can be turned off. Check that out. A good Esc is what makes the machine controllable with precise movements.

I ordered one and am putting it together myself , I can let ya know how it goes, from this it looks like it’ll be a challenge but from what I am seeing the lesu all in all is better, besides it bein all so compact. Also I am interested in investing in a LXY also and wondering where u ordered

They both have their advantages and disadvantages. Can’t go wrong with either one. I bought my lxyrc from Hydraulic Hobbies

Is the LXY (Rc4wd) really worth the money? Its $2500 and im having a hard time really pulling the trigger on it.

LXYrc. Has several advantages. For one, it works out of the box.

Watch out for the drive ESC, they are rated for 9v maximum, yet Lesu suggest in the manual to use 3s lipo. Burned 4 ESC and changed for sabertooth esc. Gave up not using the cabin area for the battery. Lesu is so small that it is, for the money, only good for doing short video.

thats a good idea my new built Lt5h I got on trade is running on 3s 11.1v 1300. he kept out the seat for a bigger compartment for bat and escs. I still have all original parts as well. yet the guy who built it replace the bad esc for hobby wing 1625 it runs but seems to me only 50% of power in reverse with endpoints set the same on both f/r..also its has factory brake between f/r which sucks. I need to swap mine out as well. which sabertooth did you go with? Or Im thinking about other esc options with programable brake option for not having one lol.

NO, not "difficult" at all to build. Slow and time consuming, yes!! Difficult, no, not at all!
