      It's probably in between. They have longer shifts than other cars like my WRX but the torque allows you to idle at very low speeds that my car would stall on since it's a smaller engine.

    Best stick shift instructional video I've seen. Knowing that friction point is key...and different on every car. I learned the stick when I bought a 1971 Beetle new and learned in the dealer's lot. Hills were scary but the VW had a parking brake lever next to the shift. I believe the Mustang GT still has one, but not the Challenger.

    Hey, I know my comment is a little past when the video was posted, but thank you for making this video. My first car is Dodge R/T manual. My dad was teaching me, unfortunately he got sick and can’t teach me any longer. A lot of things are still a bit sticky for me teaching myself, but it’s getting better day by day. My driveway is on an incline and I damn near had a heart attack pulling in even though I drove all day on near flat surfaces. Thank you for having videos like this out.

    Been driving stick on n off for about 18 years. It was one of the first things I wanted to learn when I started driving. In those 18 years, I have yet to hear anyone explain shifting. The way this guy did in this video. No ever knows how to properly explain taking off from a full stop. People who don’t know how to drive or who have been discouraged and not able to figure it out. I’m more than willing to bet it was your trainer and not you. Neither one of my parents who grew up driving only stick. Couldn’t explain how to do this properly. Being the visual hands on learner I am. From my parent’s directions I’d just stall ever time over and over. Very bad and hard stalls (at the time a new ford ranger, sad part in the end it was so easy to shift and actually fun to drive) I had to watch my parents feet in order to understand the concept.
    PSA to anyone trying to teach someone to clutch. The first thing you need to go over before they even sit in the driver seat. Show the trainee the friction spot in the clutch and explain to them what it is, why and what it means. If you do it correctly they will be driving the car home for you that day. Instead of roasting your clutch for the next 4 hours.
    Getting into first gear from a complete stop is about 90% of the battle. Shifting property the rest of the way like 5% down shifting like 3% and hill stops 2%.
    Second PSA. Like all bad trainers I hear all the time in all videos. Till I found this one. STOP telling people to give it gas and take the clutch out at the same time.
    First- no one actually does that
    Second- a newby that’s just learning isn’t going to understand that. Going to take it very literal. Plus they don’t have the feel and soft touch when taking of from a start in a manual. If you know you know.
    I swear the horrific time I went though learning how to clutch and shift. Everything I was told my first couple times out. Was WRONG. I could have a person trained and at least driving around a parking lot in 2nd/3rd gear. In less than 30 minutes. Manuals in the end drive themselves. No reason to make it harder than it needs to be

    You're doing a good job but don't talk too much about shifting without the clutch in these cars because it's really hard on the synchronizers (synchros) because the transmission is really tight. I had an old Dodge pick-up that once you got going, you didn't need to touch the clutch again until you stopped but, that's a whole different animal. When people are proficient with the clutch, they can investigate it but they'll soon find that the clutch is your friend. 😊
    A note, when you're cruising in a higher gear and want to down shift, you don't always have to rev the engine. If you're at the proper rpm you can just down shift. It will feel right and you will learn it quickly.
    Warning!! Driving down the road and taking the car out of gear to "save gas" can be very dangerous and especially for a rookie because anytime the car is in neutral you are *not in full control* of the car if something happens and you need to react immediately so save that for advanced drivers. I know you're just showing how it works but somethings are better left for later. 😉

How accurate do your rpm's have to be when upshifting and downshifting? I know you have to match rpm's, but I'm curious to what degree? I know the Mustang and camaro have rev matching, but i know I'll want the raw experience at times.

    Question: I have a 392 and sometime when I am at 3000 rpm and I want to shift from 3rd great to 4th gear - the rpm pointer gets knocked down to about 1800 -
    I can take care of the issue by putting clutch in, waiting for the RPM to drop from 3,000 rpm to about 2,000rpm and then making the shift change from 3rd to 4th. My question is - is this the right way to handle the gear change from 3rd to 4th? Or should I be revving higher like 4,000 rpm+ and then change gear from 3rd to 4th?

    Easiest manual to drive? I'd say no. Any ordinary pre clutch-by-wire car is easier to drive for someone new because you can actually feel the clutch plates engage as they're physically linked to the pedal. If you're new to manuals I'd also suggest something with lower HP. Honestly I learned to drive in a manual diesel Ford Focus and I'd say that was the easiest manual I've had to drive; if you're on a flat surface the torque from the diesel means you don't even need to touch the gas pedal to get going. You can do that in the 5.7 if you're careful with it (as you showed!), but in the Focus I could pretty much just let off the clutch normally (as long as I was controlled enough). And because it was pre clutch-by-wire, you could feel as the plates engaged and would then know when it was safe to fully let off the clutch. Heavier, though...

    • @RUBIX3

      I stayed on top of maintenance for it. I traded it in about a year ago at 160k. No issues out of the car at all. I did a video on it

    I hope you don’t find this stupid, but can you make a video explaining how to go over speed bumps, and when you coming to a stop like and slowing down and suddenly the light turn green? @rubix_3

    • @RUBIX3
      @RUBIX3  Před 3 lety +2

      You mean like when it comes to a manual? I probably could but going over a speed bump is pretty much just having it in first gear and going slow.
      The slowing down and going can be done a few different ways. I may do a video on that

      Yes sir please, my biggest problem is getting the rpms to match so the car won’t jerk.

    • @RUBIX3
      @RUBIX3  Před 3 lety +1

      Are you shifting at any point or just have it in gear?

      I’m new to driving manual, like how u said you knew the basics, I did too. Nobody taught me. I stay in Atlanta 🤦🏾‍♂️so when I be driving and when I’m approaching a red light. I throw it in neutral, and sometimes the light will turn green, and I’ll throw it in first gear and it start shaking sometimes. Maybe I should try second.
