It was a time of fun,,, and safe place back then, sad now day,s no place is safe, wish I could go back in time , to see it one more time, it was so nice back then, thank you for the post, and memories,
As a kid , I always called it "FOUNTAIN FERRY PARK" until in my adult years I realized that it was "FONTAINE FERRY PARK" ! Thanks for all of my childhood memories !
Remember this well. I was very young. Only got to ride one ride. Dad did not make much money working at Hobart Manufacturing. This was actually very close to our house, that the state eventually took to build a bridge over the river. My brothers must have been in school and that’s why they did not go with us. Even though I was very young, I remember that day so well.
@@bobbydillihay Such Beautiful Memories ... I would take a bus there, Spend the day there,, as I aged , I became old enough to roller skate , there was a limit of age... OMGosh... I was 10 the 1st time MY brother and I would take a bus...I GOT A LITTLE OLDER AND WAS OLD ENOUGH TO GO TO GYPSY VILLAGE TO DANCE... WHAT A BLAST FROM OUT PASS... THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...
I was there in 1975 with the workers that tore it down, before it becomes River Glen Park, I was 12, did lots of exploring and found a lot of really old artifacts.
The high ground for the 1937 flood fomoco ( Ford) put the autos there born in1950 OOOOOOOH how I remember thepark mom an dad met at the roller rink 🤗👋🖖🖖🖖👌✌️
Memories shrouded in shame. I had fond memories of Fontaine Ferry Park as a child, of course we were poor and only visited a couple times. But, looking back, I didn't know, or realize then, that Blacks were banned from the park. I'm ashamed now, that just because I was white, I got to go down the devils and angels slides, but little black boys and girls couldn't. If I could turn back the hands of time, I wouldn't go to Fontaine Ferry Park either.
Fontaine Ferry park was not "segregated" black people were not "banned from the park" - it been happily integrated for more than 5 years BEFORE the riots. That's the truth.
It's funny that you mention the Angels slide and the devil slide I was so young when my family visited Fontaine Ferry amusement park. My mother was from Louisville Kentucky and I grew up around Louisville. Great video! PS I only mention the angel slide and double slide because I remember my sister talking about it throughout the years but I have no memory of it!
I’m sorry, but just because your not included you have no right to destroy the fun for others. I’ll never be ashamed because that’s just the way it was back then.
You don't see any blacks in the old Fontaine ferry parks pictures, it's to white lol but that the way it was, my dad been there in the 1940s as a kid he said it's a lots of fun.
GREAT MEMORIES! Thanks for the sharing of the Beautiful sites and the wonderful photos.

Everyone I knew -- including the adults -- called it that.

Classy tribute!
Great compilation, Bobby.

Great video!
A park that was destroyed by racism.
Great memories! Are you related to Wayne Dillihay?
not that I know of.

Too bad when the ban was lifted it marked the end of FF. I wonder why? Couldn't be the mobs and the riots that happened could it

We're too nice for our own good. Integrating blacks is why we don't have nice places like this anymore.

so Fontaine Ferry is pronounced Fountain - no wonder Louisville is pronounced
