  • Walking your dog is extremely beneficial. It is crucial to their well being. A lot of people who come in for training because of issues with their dog, aren't walking their dog enough or even at all.
Some people take their dog for a walk 2 or 3 times a day but it's not structured, meaning the dog is walking nicely beside you and you are the leader.
Following you gives your dog mental exercise because he's having to practice impulse control.

The way i trained mine was to ignore outer interference. Another dog barks i say ignore and keep walking. Consistence is key. My SD is a pit bull so they have that impulse to do what they want unless you is consistency

What do you walk her on? For dogs that don't react to treats in new places, you either need something of higher value or another way to get her attention back to you. I personally use a prong collar, sometimes in combination with a food reward. I keep the food rewards only for when I feel we will need them on a walk, but usually I don't have them on me. Can you explain what you do to try to gain her attention?

Walks yes good great but this guys has no idea about dogs comparing them to wolves and leader and pack that was all disproven by the very man who made it up himself 40 plus years ago

Hey Andrew. Thanks for watching. Do you mind sharing exactly what you disagree with? I agree that David Mech's original pack theory was riddled with flaws, but that doesn't mean that dogs are not pack animals or that they don't share some characteristics with wolves. It would be silly to think that dogs and wolves don't have many things in common when they both derived from a common ancestor, and share a lot of DNA. We teach that dogs do best in a structured environment and with a solid understanding of the leadership role that the humans in their lives play. We do not teach that you need to dominate your dog through abuse, alpha rolls, biting your dog, etc.
