  • Komárno (Hungarian. Komárom, nem. Komorn, Serbian. Komoran, Lat. Camarum, Comaromium) is a district town in the Nitra region of Slovakia, situated at the confluence of the Danube and the Vážsky Danube. To distinguish it from the town of the same name, which lies in Hungary, the colloquial Hungarian name Észak-Komárom (North Komárno) or Révkomárom is used.
The town lies at the confluence of the Danube and the Vážsky Danube, on the south-eastern edge of the Danube Plain on the left bank of the Danube, and is the larger part of the historic seat of the former Hungarian Empire. After World War I, the border line of the newly founded Czechoslovakia was drawn across the middle of the river, separating the Újszőny (now Komárom) district on the right bank of the Danube, which was annexed to the city in 1896. The two towns are connected by bridges - road and railway.
