In this series, we will take the brave subs who volunteered for a tour of duty and trying to get them through 25 grueling missions for that ticket home.
About: Feel the power of flying a real B-17! See what it was like to be part of a 10-man crew on dangerous bombing missions over occupied Europe. Realistic graphics, animations, and sounds convincingly recreate every aspect of the strategic air battles in WWII. Twenty-five scenarios, in which you must manage your crew’s strengths and weaknesses, test your pilot and leadership skills. This is your team, they are under your command, and it is your job as a captain to complete the mission and take them home in one piece.
This game is a real gem amongst other simulators. With impressive attention to detail and historically accurate missions, you can really feel like you are fighting in WWII. Control any of ten different crew positions, seeing the combat as a pilot, one of the gunners, or a communications officer. Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at / taff_in_exile - Hry
My uncle served with the 8th as a navigator, his plane was shot down over France but was rescued by the resistance and managed to escape like many others back to safety.
Thank you for sharing
Awesome. God Bless him.
Have you read Donald Miller's book on the Mighty Eighth?
@@Fordnan I have not, will order a copy now if it is available. Thank you for the recommendation! Royce was actually my great uncle. His brother Bob flew Hellcats and Corsairs with the Cactus airforce. Obviously I was in awe of both of them and very proud of their service...
@Big White Trying to get Royce's records for more information. It would be epic if they actually crossed paths, but we will never know...
This game was waaay ahead of its time. I absolutely loved the damage model
It definitely deserves a remake, imagine it in VR
@@coryhall7074 it is
its on steam release date is too be revealed
Ahead of its time indeed. You needed a computer modern by todays standards to play it.
Taff is using a lot of mods, including one for the damage models.
My Dad was 9 years old in 1943. He told me a couple of stories of people he knew flying B-17s. One bad one was when he was in school (Mississippi) and a couple of Army officers w/chaplain came to his class and met with his teacher. They escorted her outside and told her her husband (B-17 Navigator) had to bail out over the target. His chances of survival were nil. He remembered her crying hysterically out in the school yard and how the class felt so bad.
Different and difficult times to live through.
Multi engine private pilots license and B17 Aficionado here. Have watched most of your other campaign videos. And have some pointers that might help out. 1. Never turn into a dead engine. The dead Wait will act as an anchor pulling that Wing down making it harder to level out of the turn, Keep that wing up even if you have to turn the long way around. 2. The B-17 tail wheel has 2 settings lock ( takeoff) and unlock ( taxi). To get the B-17 to turn while on the ground after landing the pilots would shut down engines #2 and #3 and turn using the throttle’s to one and four. To turn left you would maximize #4 and idle #1 with rudder aided. Recommend making shallower turns While in formation To cut back on mid air collisions. Either way, I love your videos and I hope you keep making them
I just heard, not only is Microprose coming out with an all new B-17 sim, they're updating this one as a redux. Can't wait to see and play them.
i like the way this game patches up bleeding airmen, a couple of slaps on the face and there you go. HEALED!!!
Appreciate you Taff! Thank you for all you do ^-^
Hope you and yours are well.
That flak had to be nerve racking, at best. 🏴👍
Gotta love the medicinal slap in the face (well, oxygen mask)
God, imagine this game with the level of flight detail and graphics IL-2:Great Battles brings to the table.
I'm so happy to see another video of the Mighty 8th! I watched all the videos from the last series a while ago and I enjoyed watching them all!
The cows shake in fear! Also a rare occasion where it is not a near miss :P
Hacks Clearly 🤣
Haha heavy edited video, I actually hit a dairy farm
Greatly improved colors and sound. Well flown, Taff.
Very nice flight there taff
Cheers mate never get tied watching and playing this game...
Awesomeness! Can’t wait for the redux!
The nostalgia! I might buy this on Steam just to hold me over till next year
Yes! I loved this game…and this series highlighting it,
Thank you Taff, amd welome back to B-17
Gongrats for bringing back this classic. And Microprose new sims are about to be released! 😉
Love it. Can't weight for inevitable vids of the sequels
Thanks for the vid captain!
Nicely edited Taff really good video
Can`t wait to see how the remake and the new game will fare against this one :D I`m very excited.... hopefully we won`t be disappointed
I'm looking forward to the "bloody 100th"...yay. Micropose returns!
Yeah me too can't wait
I can’t wait for the new games micropose just announced
Loved this sim and cant wait for the new release😎
Served for 6years in Osnabruck,in the 70s,never knew it's WW2 history apart from it being a rail hub🏴
I’m living in Osnabrück… strange feeling 😂
I saw all the strike photos on your town from the war. Especially the railyard. It is hard to believe nowadays.
@@mikhailiagacesa3406 i am not living but studying in Osnabrück, and yes seeing photos or videos from this time and knowing the place know, is indeed a strange feeling.
So can’t wait for the new games.
Excellent job and cinematics. Would like to have seen the route on a map(but I know where Osnabruck is)to see what flak belts you're flying over(and the airfields). Fun Fact: Osnabruck, along with other cities in NW Germany, were visited by Bomber Command in late '39; dropping leaflets telling civilians to leave their cities as they were now considered targets. 4 year slow burn.
I just heard this is getting a "Redux" update and rerelease, super hyped about it.
I see you mention it at the end of the video as well.
Yeah should be good, I'm guessing that will be released before the bloody 100th new game so plenty of time to enjoy it
There will actually be a remake of this game to modern video game tech and features??? WONDERFUL. I would hope for the following features: 1) whole squadron dropping their bombs will mean extreme devastation to the target area not seen in this original game and that it would be counted as "somehow rewarded damage" to target even if not all the bombs that hit were dropped by the players bomber but their squadron mates. 2) Some sort of a minigame would occur for those crew members who have to bail out over hostile territory to determine will they be captured, killed or....rescued. For example, those bailed out over France would have to try and make it to French resistance, those who were shot down on a mission to drop supplies to Polish resistance, would have to try and make it to Armia Krajowa. Naturally, no minigame for those bailing out over Berlin or other major German city. (Instant POW or KIA automatically). Minimum success for rescue occurring automatically without minigame: successfully making it over ocean before bailing out or ditching 3) Surviving without getting killed or captured a Schweinfurt or Operation Tidal Wave type mission (and the subsequent short lived morale drop among crew like "planners of earlier mission should be shot or at the very least rot in prison! Lost so many great friends and brothers in arms!") would be absolutely required to continue bomber career past certain point. 4) Ability to choose your side. Either fly a four engine USAAF bomber OR a....one or two engine Luftwaffe fighter (option to switch to Me-262 would be offered later). 5) In some instances, both German and American pilots on parachutes could get shot and killed. (That became a war crime only in 1949 so nobody did anything wrong there). 6) If your bomber is shot to absolute pieces and falls out of formation, you could still have a chance at returning home due to encountering Luftwaffe fighter pilots with Franz Stiglers personality and sense of honor. 7) I would be glad if fighter escorts have better AI and competence in the coming up game than they had in il-2. I found it absolutely ridiculous to see Me-109s being shot down by Soviet Polikarpovs....unless, of course, Adolf Galland would disagree with me saying Me-109 were at a huge disadvantage when they had to fly slow due to bomber escort mission and that slow velocity flight was more a strong suit of Spitfires and Zeros (unfortunately, he is no longer alive to consult).
@@Cybernaut76 For that you may need to look at the sequel "B-17 Flying Fortress The Bloody 100th" also currently in development. The Redux will likely more or less just be a graphics update and possibly some bugfixes. Though I'd hope they also fix some aircraft and AI performance shortfalls as well.
@@Vipre- Thank you. The Steam page about The Bloody 100th says you will have a fixed number of 25 missions. Why so stiff? Why not either a little more or a little less than 25 depending on how many are you able to fly before the minute Wilhelm Keitel sings The German Instrument of Surrender? Maybe one of the features could also be that the player could elect if after that signature, he wants to either go home or be transferred to Pacific to fly against the Japanese. Maybe even a career entirely focused against Axis Powers in Pacific.
@@Vipre- Also, mo idea about the temporary morale drop was because I heard that several decades after the end of WW2, one of the B-24 Liberator pilots who took part in Operation Tidal Wave, was so angry and bitter at those who planned the mission that while merely being a customer in his areas apotecary, he screamed to his customer service provider that "if there was any justice, they would all be in prison!". And I mean he was not just any crew member but either a main pilot or a copilot of one of those bombers who took part in that raid. Also, I am sure the surviving American bomber crew members were equally traumatized after Schweinfurt missions. Many of them realized they were sent anyway even if the higher ups completely understood they would be little more than sitting ducks for Me-109s and Fw-190s. I thought the requirement to survive one or two missions like that could be a fairly realistic condition in a game with several tens of other, easier and less deadly missions.
This is a bit sobering, especially that I have been to Osnabrück many times. For information: You struck the Karmann automotive plant.
Thanks for the recording!
Nice
Loved this game.
Thank you for this video .
Hey Taff microprose is making the mighty 8th remaster...!
And a sequel!
I wish they would remake this game with updated visuals. I would solely play it everyday
The new games B17 were announced by microprose 4 of which are b17 games 1 the 3rd b17 game, 2nd the redux of the last one, the 3rd another b17 game new sequel, the last is b17 VR can’t wait
i cannot wait for the remake
LOVED THIS GAME!!! I heard they were going to make a new one a few years ago never happened i guess.
Still in development. But it is coming. B-17 Flying Fortress The Bloody 100th. Edit: And he mentions it near the end of the video. Don't I feel like a bonehead.
There's gonna be a remake of the Mighty Eight as well, it was announced this month
Good'ole mighty 8th!
Microprose are releasing a vr version of this.....cant wait!!
Should be great, might have to invest in vr
You need to get early access to the new redux and bloody hundred games.
Taff do you think you’ll ever continue your B-17 The Mighty Eighth play through on Twitch?! I really miss that being able to watch that series live and being able to watch the VODs as well!
I adored this game when it came out all those years ago....I am ashamed to say as a 14 year old I didnt know or bothered to read ALL of the controls that SPACEBAR skipped time forward 10 minutes and on my first mission to Brest harbour I literally flew it all the way in REAL TIME!!!!! Felt like a right dick when my mate pressed spacebar and time skipped lol!!!
Haha I think we have all had similar experiences with different games over the years
Noticed they got a REDUX version of this game in the pipeline.
The announcement about the updates to this game is way overdue. I have long been puzzled why it has not been remade already. This was one of the best sims ever produced, I played many hours on it, I named all the crew after my friends names, so it was more poignant when one died. This will be awesome potentially.
I used to name my wagon party after my friends in Oregon Trail as well.
How do you record the sim? OBS can’t find the window for me, only the startup wizard.
It's a struggle, I use a capture card but still takes some tweeking, especially with the intermittent vsync issues
Im hoping they make an RAF night bombing addition to this when the new one releases.
could you order your flight to drop or gain 1000 feet when flack is incoming to help get around it?
Pretty cool on the bombing run, right in the pickle barrel!
Keep em coming!!!!
Yes you can order altitude changes to throw off the flak, usually 2k feet change is best to get the top flight out of the flak box too
Are you getting the redux version?
5:46 I wonder if that would have counted towards the 25 mission tour of duty in real life? Or did you have to release bombs over the target to notch up a completed mission?
i am from germany and i am studying in Osnabrück ✌🏻
I will be streaming my own channel on them :)
This game looks awesome, for how old it is. Must be remastered?
I’m amazed you were able to actually hit a 109 as a fighter escort P-38. I always struggled with the fighter escort mechanics. How did you get your game to run as smoothly as it is here? It looks great!
Yeah the escort fighters are difficult to fly more luck than judgement tbh
I'd like to see this game upgraded to present graphics and game play
What happened to mission one, 😮 or this just part of another long story line for us to follow?.
Mission 1 must be the years of streams where the USAAF were Taffed out of existence lol
How many games have lasted 22 years?
What theater were the 100th in? I’ve never heard of them.
Pretty sure they were part of the 8th Bombardment group in the European theatre. Called the "bloody 100th" as they attacked some of the most feared daylight targets(Berlin, Bremen etc) and sustained a lot of casualties.
@@sandynathan oh okay, I assumed they were the same force org level as the 8th, but yeah going all the way up to 100 doesn’t make sense.
Eighth Air Force’s 100th Bomb Group
Yeah the 100th were based near Diss norfolk and were involved I some of the toughest missions. The new Spielberg/Hanks series (like band of brothers) I believe will follow the 100th
@@TaffinExile ty!
its a mod for DCS v2.8?
Why all KIA? What happened to this guy at 20:11 Did his parachute fail to open? Was he lynched by furious German civilians?
10:05..a straight cut and paste...Why did you copy the previous part of the recording?
Its bimbing my hometown.... from time to time they still found bombs from ww2 still to this days.... And I met a lot of people who lived here during the bomb raids back than. One of our friends was hanging on with British officers after the war, they told him that they did not bomb military barracs because they wanted to have them. They bombed living areas insted....... There was a lot going on that was a true warcrime, even attacs on red cross trains or refugeees (civilians).
Bombing wasn't that accurate by today's standards, anything within 3 miles was considered "ok", the sad truth was bombing a factory would put it out of production for a number of weeks before it was working again. If you hit the skilled work force then that will take months/years to replace
War is horrible. There is no other way of putting it.
Updated version on the way? czcams.com/video/9ko0gLIoNpM/video.html
Yeah as a mention at the end there is a redux coming out
I wish this game had atleast il2 1946 graphics
Well with the reduced of this game announced it should improve them for sure!
Say, have you ever considered playing some of the old Call of Duty ww2 games?
COD SUCKS.
Battlefield was way better back then. You had tanks and planes as well as infantry.
4 minute notification. 😉
Hahaha
Hey when is that farming simulator community coming back?
@Taff hey buddy, I really love you're WW2 content and I hope it never stops coming. I cant wait for your content in the new B-17 edition coming out. I came across this video of modern era sub combat. It looks pretty awesome and I think you and the community will have great fun with it. It HIGHLY suggests that it is multiplayer. Maybe it will be a way to expand your content maybe to mix it up for the community as well as involving the community with your game play and content creation. I you and everyone else get some entertainment from this video. Have a good day all.

"You can't kill a squadron" Taff: "Hold N00ts Whisky" 🤣🤣🤣....No Crowdpleasers....shame on you Taff 😆 And 10,000 FW190s lol You got into the air in less than 30 mins....where is Taff and what have you done to his U-boat crew😁 RIP Bombshell Blonde II....30 Missions completed and then got Taffed. Yes the Death Gurgling 😇 COMPLETE MISS 😝 TOTALLY DESTROYED....hacks, blatant hacks😉😅months of watching the streams and I never saw you get that damage estimate lol
Bought this game from steam but had to get a refund as it wouldnt work on my pc.
There's a remastered version coming out, there's a link to the Steam site in the video description.
War on the sea? yes, Napoleon? yes. Uboat? yes. IL2? yes, but this? no thanks.
Taffs best flying is in the Mighty Eighth....bombing cow fields and leading 1 bomber charges into Berlin Airspace
Is this a 2000’s or 2010’s game? The graphics look circa 2010?
