Thank you Tara Leigh for what you do. I just turned 60 and have never read the bible in it's entirety. I made a decision to do so this year, but hope to do it in 90 days. I am following your plan and commentaries which helps me see and learn so much more. I have tried reading it on my own through the years and always fell off in Exodus or right after the gospels in the new testament. Your insightful guidance helps me see it so differently and makes me so excited to keep going. I know you don't need our acknowledgement, but I give glory to God for helping us draw nearer to Him through lovely people who love Him. May He bless you for your work, it has to take a good amount of time to do what you do. Peace be with you!

The words spoken by Amos ring very true for our world today. There is so much injustice and wickedness happening around us. Senseless killings. Children being snatched from their families and sold into slavery. The world is perverted. What comforts me is that God is a God of justice. He will make all things right and exact the proper justice due to everyone who did wrongs. And, I am thankful for His mercy because I was a great offender, and He saved me by the blood of Jesus Christ. Praise His holy name!
Lord, forgive us when we turn into Egypt and forget Your goodness towards us and don't extend that same goodness, justice and mercy to others. We need You Lord.

We are all going to face judgement one day. All of us! Nobody can escape it. The baseline for those who don't know Him... and those of us who know Him, we will be held accountable for even more. But... He's patient! He gives warning after warning, sign after sign, and He prompts repentance constantly. He implores them (us) to seek Him! HATE evil and LOVE what He loves. He is complex, detailed, layered, and faithful! Praise HIM that He loves me and rescued ME! ❤

Thank you Tara-Leigh for explaining the ways God is sovereign over disaster. It is satisfying to know.
I really love Amos 3:3-8 I feel God was trying to communicate that things/ disaster doesn't just happen.
And God always gives the option of repentance and a warning. Everything is indeed for the sake of the relationship.
I am so blessed to know such a God😊
I pray that God helps me in areas of my life were I havstrayed away from him and relying on myself or other things thinking they are His blessings.
I strongly want to be present in our relationship God and REST in You.

God is a God of Warning. With each of us, it’s not His wistful, lachrymose sentiment, but it’s His command for us to live in intimacy with Him. Amos 3:2: “I have been intimate with you alone. That is why I must punish you for your sins.” As the Lion of Judah, He “roars in the thicket” and “growls in its den” (Amos 3:4) when we are not walking the same direction as Him (Amos 3:3). Why does He “roar” and “growl”? Because “He never does anything until He reveals His plans to His servants, the prophets” (Amos 3:7). In our lives, He speaks to us through His word, through the teachings of His preachers, and through circumstances that are designed to correct us (Amos 4:7). He wants us to remember that it’s Him, not some random cosmic evolutionary natural force, nor some pagan notion of “the Universe,” but God Almighty Who “shaped the mountains, stirred up the winds, and reveals His thoughts to mankind” (Amos 4:13). How awesome it is that this Creator God calls us to walk with Him in intimacy, and hear the whisper He spoke to Moses and Elijah: “I love you, and I am merciful.”

MLK quoted Amos 5:24 in his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963. God is fulfilling that dream, and even as the culture grows darker, His kingdom grows stronger-in part, because His people spend time hearing His word each day, knowing that He will bring justice like a waterfall and righteousness like a river of life

I love seeing how much time and opportunities God had given Israel to repent or rectify their sins. The fact that he was so patient with people who were openly disregarding him or mocking him or ignoring his rules, really defines God‘s character, which is that of a loving father and one that we can trust.

  • @hbrown5068

Every time I study scripture, I see a new insight. In order to be in a relationship, with God or others, we need to decide to walk together, to see each other, to talk/pray, to be together. It is a premeditated act. To DO. With God, marriage, family, friends, community. Relationships take Love, time, forethought, action. If there is a problem, repent and return to that relationship. It takes steadfast Love. I pray for this in my life and others. I struggle with an alcoholic husband and the result of sin which impacts all. Seek God and live. In this life and unto the next. Love God, ❤️ Love others. Thank you Jesus for seeking us and letting us find You.
““Do two walk together, unless they have agreed to meet?”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3‬:‭3‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: “Seek me and live;”

Where stood for me today was found in 4:6-11 God specifically mentioned "Yet you have not returned to Me" 5 times.
    1. God does anything to get our attention and it's okay for Him to be jealous when we don't see Him in the picture of what He's trying to do to save us.
    2. If before the blood of Christ came into play, God was willing to accept them if they returned to Him despite their atrocities and idolatry worship, how much more will He be willing to receive us when we stray & will to return to Him?
It's never too late for the prodigal son to return, his sins are never too deep that they can't be forgotten or wiped off. How would we understand the Father's love if we're too perfect to sin?
This message is one that can be used to bring even the unbelievers to the light & love of the Father just as much as it can draw the prodigal son to the reminder of the Father's love. ❤ & 💡

    Day 192
The book of Amos- a sheep farmer and prophet. This happens at the same time as the book of Isaiah.
The people think they are doing well because they are doing well financially. The people offer meaningless sacrifices to God, thinking it will keep them in good standing. The people think they are protected from their enemies.
God is going to flip all that over.
God spoke to the nations surrounding Israel that did not know God.
Then he also spoke to Israel that did know Him and His covenants.
Israel is held to higher standard than the other nations because they know God. They are accountable for what they know.
In order for God to be a God of justice, no one can escape judgment.
The first six nations are guilty of slave trade, cruelty, treachery, harboring a grudge, murder, greed and desecrating a corpse of a king.
The southern kingdom of Judah is guilty of rejection of God. This is very personal.
( Remember Israel had divided itself into a northern kingdom, known as Israel and a southern kingdom known as Judah)
With the eighth nation God addresses Israel themself. They are guilty of selling people into debt slavery, they oppress the poor, they are sexually immoral, they exploit people for their own pleasure, they worship false gods.
They have forgotten that it is God who is rescued them when they were oppressed and enslaved. They have broken the covenant.
Because of this, God is about to bring oppression and destruction to them.
Their power and wealth is not evidence to God’s blessing. Their strength and riches will not stand against God.
God is going to judge the wickedness of this surrounding nations, but he is going to judge Israel’s wickedness also.
Their sacrifices do not appease Him. They are dishonoring to Him.
Their so called good deeds are tainted with pride and showy behavior.
God has been reaching out to them over and again through lesser methods to prompt repentance but to no avail. God has used drought, locust, mildew, famine, disease, death to get their attention. But none of this has turned their hearts. God has been so patient with them.
Israel, the people that God rescued, has become the stubborn oppressor who rejects God.
God implores them to seek Him and live. To let go of the evil things that break His heart. He tells them that judgement is coming.
God takes ownership of this disaster. He is not always the active agent but He is sovereign over it.
It is OK to wrestle with this or feel the tension of it.
The enemy does not have the upper hand.
We want a God who judges sin.
God’s judgment of His people is ultimately for the purpose of restoration. This isn’t the end. God is preserving a remnant.
Our God of justice is also a God of mercy.
God is faithful to the end.

Thank you and God bless you. This his is my second lap around the bible but reading it with you through the timeline has helped bring a lot of clarity for me. Often before my daily read I also take a look at the recent video that the bible project puts out (so I can get an overview from them to enhance your readings)

Thank you, TLC for all you do for this community. Your making it much easier to understand some of the complexities of the Bible. Though you don’t know me, you spend every morning with me, and I look forward to my time with you in the word.

I love the walkthroughs with the minor prophets! I’ve been struggling to see their place in all of the books and I love the timeline aspect. Thanks for caring about our journey through the Bible enough to make these fantastic videos ❤

‭God gives us an instruction manual, the Bibel. It is hard for us to follow constantly and constantly or to remember it in every action during every day. But God tells us what His plans are. He gives us a outline of how to live our lives.
"Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets."
    Amos 3:7 NIV‬
God stay in the forefront on my mind every day and in every action. Let me think of You, and ask "What does God want me to do in this situation?" Sins have consequences. Let me remember that before making a sinful choice.
