NI Massive - 808 & Sub Bass Tips and Tricks

In this tutorial Echo Sound Works shows you how to make a 808 style kick sound as well as a sub bass that will work with multiple genres of EDM.
Making a good 808 style kick in Massive is so simple that it can actually be hard. The idea is to use a Sine wavetable and tune it really low and filter out any unwanted high frequencies. But if you did just that, your 808/sub kick sound would be very dull.
You have to find ways to dirty up the sound and make it more interesting outside of the oscillators.

Amazing tutorial and nice sound! I am very new to trap sounds in general (I am mainly into dubstep/electronic rock), so I wonder.. Can you use this sound as the only kick/sub in a song and work out alone? Or is it better to layer this with a normal kick?

how do set it to only one voice? my samples are running into each other (I want to hit one key then the next without the notes running together) basically want to cutoff a note when another is being played.

plz help. I made the sub but when I did the performer part it worked. but now I cant turn it off. I tried everything but all I usually get is a sub that always plays and never stops. how can u disable performer.
How did you get the actually distortion at 13:20? For the sound i mean as it sounds different when you added the kick in to play with the sub :)

I'm a bit confused on what I did wrong... I followed what you said and I ended up with a sub bass that sounds just like yours, but is really quiet. Your sub bass is much, MUCH louder compared to the one I created on Massive.

Thanks for the tutorial! Might be a dumb question, but how do you turn the performer off or delete it? I tried "mute" but that didn't stop the a signal from coming through.
Jarrett Chew Depends how you set it up. If you place the perf macro on the Amp Mod then you won't be able to mute it. Just make the loop longer.
13:00 mins exactly - what did you do to stop the perf?? I can't get it to stop and it's driving me nuts!

I can' get rid of that pop on the attack? especially for hip hop it's annoying as hell.
+The Surrogate Beats I was having that same problem, make sure ALL of the sound from the oscillator is going through filter1. I think by default it will send a little to filter 2 and the unfiltered signal will be where you get that annoying click

Just get "Heavy Weight 808 samples" from Sonic Playgrounds and load them into any sampler. Done
