- ► Audi's first-generation Q7 is a competent four-wheel-drive SUV suited for long trips and towing. Whether you've just purchased a Q7, or are doing routine maintenance on one you've already owned, this simple job goes a long way to refresh and prolong the life of your vehicle. This big diesel Audi uses an 8-speed Aisin-built unit to turn its torque into drive, and the fluid inside the transmission will eventually wear. Replacing the fluid at Audi's specified interval will ensure the life of your gearbox and will likely prevent very costly repairs.
Automatic transmissions from this era of Audi don't have the best reputation. The ZF 5HP was reliable for one thing: blowing up. The Aisin transmission has proven to be the better unit, but it still requires proper maintenance for a long life. The replacement process is nearly as simple as any other oil change you might have to make, and the results will go a long way for the health of your Q7.
Follow along as Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's Professional DIY'er, takes on a transmission fluid replacement on an Audi Q7 TDI.

Very useful tech video, I had no idea how easy it was to change out everything in the video. I also replaced the pan and cover along with all the bolts,
and I also replaced the splash guard shield . Only bcuz I had it apart and
figured why not I'm down here doing it anyway and I like keeping things new .
Thank you guys for helping me out with all your DIY videos, you make it easy to follow along and take notes back into the garage while I'm diong my repairs... "GREAT DIY VIDEO's"
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I suggested this a while ago. I did it myself on my 15 Q7 supercharged v6. hardest part was draining to the check level.
You guys are amazing. I recently shop from your website. Everything came really fast and fit into my vehicle. Thank you for your helpful videos.
Great idea to have the transmission and differential fluids changed, I have a 2010 3.0 ltr v6 diesel with 170,000 miles, always serviced at a dealer, I kept mentioning about changing the high milage fluids, they always said no need to, it will last the lifetime of the car. Since I had it changed with the filters it runs like new, so if you want your car to last longer and run better, get it changed, and find a good mechanic that will do it.
Great video! Can't get any better than this
Thanks Mike and FCP great content
Thank you! This video was a life saver.
thanks so much for sponsoring ricer miata. Will’s BMW135i is Sick!!!!
awesome job ,thanks for the webinar
You guys always produce great content! Can’t thank you enough for that!
Glad you enjoy it!
Great video and love how detailed you are, well done! I have to ask you if you or any of the followers have ever experienced this noise on their Q7. Mine happens between 1000-2000 rpm…

I did this without the proper fill tool. All it took was a valve stem with the core removed, an adapter for an air hose, some fish tank air line, an o ring, a PCV adapter, and a cheap manual fluid pump. BUY THE TOOL!
Thank you very much for sharing this great video.👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
Am looking at a 2013 Q7. It has 135k miles on her. Searching around to see what kinds of maintenance and repairs an owner can do to avoid the stealership prices.
Doesn’t look hard, just time consuming. This apparently isn’t a “shade tree mechanic” job with all the in and out of the car, temp checks, the multiple liters of fluid that seems to be wasted, etc.
At least it only has to be done around every 50-60k miles or so. So about 6 years for me (I work from home). Worth paying someone with a lift to do it. Good, informative video.
Thank you very much
Awesome diy!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video sharing brother
Thanks for the visit!
EXCELLENT gotdam video! Helped me out a lot!
Glad to hear it!
Top! Many Thanks!
Enjoy!
Awesome content 👌🏻👍🏻
Just checking - how many litres did you end up using?
Amazing thank you
Thank you for wrenching with us!
This worked perfectly, thanks! Now.. I don't suppose you'd want to use my car as the Video demo for replacing the entire transmission? I'd buy the trans and drive there... wherever there is.
Love your thorough videos. Do you have a video on how to change the transmission mount on an Audi Q7 TDI?
Audi dealership told me it was a lifetime fluid and they don't change it. Glad this video popped up I will doing this soon to my q7
I have 200k miles on my 15 and just changed it. Fluid was still in good shape and no metal... Not worth the time IMO
@@mellamobradleyy thank you for the information I'll hold off for now only have 95k
Great video! Thank you for sharing and may I ask after all process roughly how many litres fluid exactly needed for this gearbox? Appreciate your inputs. Many thanks
Excellent excellent excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
I did exact same transmission oil and filter change job for 2016 A7 with TDI engine. I filled the oil without pump, and using long break hose and funnel, channeling from engine bay.
After leveling the car I started to fill the pan but only after 2.75 quarts it started spilling out from fill plug (means its filled).
It gave me doubts that only 2.75 quarts, as I was expecting 4 to 6 at least?
I just finished this job and haven't started the car yet because of this situation if it is an abnormal situation. I will start when I will feel comfortable.
Please share your experience with 2016 TDI A7 if you had any. Is it normal and I should go ahead and start the car and it will take more (4 to 5 quarts) after?
Is the process the same for the 3.0TFSI q7 4L? I have a 2012 prestige model.
Would you know if it is going to be same engine, transmission, parts and procedure on 2016 Audi A7 TDI
what type of transmission fluid for Q7 2013 TFSI do you recommend
Can this procedure be applied to a late 2011 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid, with the Tiptronic S 8 Speed Transmission?
Can you do second part of the audi when u clean all the black stuff on the intake please
Hello i just purchased Audi q7 Tdi 2016
Everytime it drop gear from 5 to 4 it jerks but the rest is smooth do you have any idea what the issue can be as i need to claim it before my warranty finish
Im not 100% sure i understood good. So with final topping up you refilling gearbox with engine running, gearbox on park and temperature between 35-45degrees celcius?
Engine must be running?
Or could be on park turned off with temperature 35-45?
Thanks in advance
I don't think that Aisin WS carries the G 055 540 A2 specification that Audi/VW requires for the 0C8 8-speed automatic. Other than that, awesome video!
Just wondering what Autel MaxiCheck tool your using model plz. As i Have the Q7 with the 4.2L TDI with an 8 speed trans.
You should show how to flush the transmission at the same time .... all you do is disconnect the transmission cooling line and after you have changed filter and filled the oil start the car and runn the fluid out until I changes colour if it starts to sputer before changing colour turn of and refill the transmission with oil and do it again after its running nice and red switch of refill the transmission and then go through the process of getting the fluid as you shown here
It's nice to get all the oil out of the torque converter
Hello, i have 2011 q7 4.2 tdi 8 speed I’ve serviced the gearbox changed oil and filter after 5k kilometres when i put in D to drive away it kicks when i release the brake pedal why is this can somebody tell me if he experienced ??
Can you link us to the pump you used to get the fluid back in please
Hi Earl, that is available by searching CTA7400 on FCPEuro.com.
Great job, does this also apply to the 4.2l engine?
I think all of the 4.2L Q7s came with the six speed, not the eight speed, so it would be slightly different.
The V8 TDI 4.2 is the same 8 speed trans as I have the same Q7 model and year.
Hi can you please do one on a mercedes SL500 - 2015 MODEL ( R231 ) Transmission oil change

Hi Richard! We do have a few 722.9 service videos on our channel!
I can’t find those bolts” screws for the transmission pan and that drain bolt can I reuse them or need new ones ?
He reuses the old drain bolt, the little green tube like thingy that he screws back into the pan.
Hello FCP EURO Great Video content for the Q7 Would this be the same for a 2013 Audi Q7 prestige?
It should be exactly the same. 2011-2015 q7 all had the same 8 speed aisin transmission.
@@superbrute everywhere it is written that from facelift 2009 gearbox is zf, not aisin 😊
your video show you put 10 liters but the kit you sell for this vehicle only has 6 bottles.
I cannot find a fill connector fitting anywhere... the measurements don't make sense
Is this process works for the 3.6 gasoline?
I'm pretty sure all of the 3.6L had the six speed since the 3.6L stopped in 2008 and the eight speed wasn't introduced until 2011.
What type of autel is great for an 2010 audi q7 tdi
Hi Willie, we have a couple options available over on FCPEuro.com. Any of the scanners will be a great addition to your tools.
What about the trans fluid in the lines and cooler?
You can never get to it unless you do some crazy shit. If you're concerned just change the fluid again after
The best thing to do if you want to flush those out would be to drive the vehicle a bit and then perform another fluid flush. If the service intervals are maintained properly moving forward that will be more than sufficient to keep a healthy fluid status in the whole system.
Agreed, looking into this. Looking for an adapter for the cooler return line. Think imma flush/exchange it from there. Not just a drain and fill. Trying to make this touareg solid💪
Why would you pump 8L in if you only caught 4-5L when drained? Just like another person in the comments, I pumped in 8 and drained off like 5L waiting for the first dribble seems like a HUGE waste
3 liter
8 liters atf??
At the dealer says transmission not need new fluid because is a lifetime fluid is that true??
There is no such thing, these require a service interval just like any other fluids. Lifetime fluid is a coined term that a lot of dealers use which typically only applies to vehicles when they are under warranty.
Bulls*it. Every oil losting parameters during time and age.
Same eco bulls*it everywhere.
Thinking this way, engine oil is lifetime as well?
I put in 8L and now I’m waiting for this small dribble lol. Already lost a steady litre after initial fill dammit haha
Update, after putting in 8 litres initially.. I have now drained off 5 litres waiting to get a small dribble
@@kdoran709 wowsers
@@kdoran709 had this happen to me too, why would you pump in 8L if you only caught like 4-5L draining. The math isn't mathing
Hi there
May I ask you, what is the moder and year of your car as I am planning to do it on my car?
I think the Audi manual says the trans fluid is lifetime. I'm not sure I agree with anything being a lifetime, but changing every 50k seems excessive???
DSG transmissions are every 60k so, not out of the question
Audi service says “no service transmission fluid”
Senza macchinario dal
Lavaggio ne scarichi 4 litri su 9 . Non è un buon lavoro !!!!
Great job but please stop saying go ahead it doesn't mean anything. every single one of the 687 times you said it, the sentence would have meant he exact same thing without out it. Just a bad habit.
You gotta check out some of the mk7 videos where they use a 90 degree hook pick. I swear he says 90 degree hook pick 900 times instead of just saying pick 😂
What is the pan part number? My 2009 Q7 transmission pan got bent so I need to try to find the correct one. I've already ordered 3 of them that are not right one
