Haegeum is the name of the traditional instrument but also means "allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden". To me that is what yoongi does with Agust D, pushing limits he cannot as Suga the idol. But, don't forget all of them are still him.

The scar is explained in the Amygdala MV. And basically it represent his trauma. The first Agust D from 2016 became a king in Daechwita, he was killed by black haired Agust D who then became the police officer in Haegum. The new Agust D who healed from his trauma (the one without a scar in Haegum), came to kill the police officer. That’s the story line through all the videos. But for Haegum specifically it’s about anti-capitalism and overconsumption and the paradox between freedom and self-indulgence

Haegeum is amazing. And yes he doesn't exempt himself from what he's saying. Like with Daechwita, he kills himself, the self that is a slave to all the things he mentioned. But in the end, he's still very much the same as the self he killed, because he has to use the chopsticks he used to kill to eat. My theory is like the policeman/mob boss Agust D is like the commoner Agust D from Daechwita who rose to power after killing the King Agust D. 😅😅😅😅

      @Ahjusshi_Brown Před rokem +15

YEEEES THATS ME THEORY TOO, and peep how the scar is healing and the thief Agust d doesn’t have a scar. To me it’s representative of Yoongi continually having to kill those parts of himself (his greed/ambition, his rage, his self indulgence, etc.) Until he reached the point where he is now where “he’s no longer filled with the rage that makes Agust D.” That’s why Agust d will go away for a while, bc Yoongi himself is healing and is no longer angry.

    • @karlafm24
      @karlafm24 Před rokem +7

@@Ahjusshi_Brown yes yes yes agreed. That's why criminal Agust D has no scar because he's on the road to healing. The difference is he now understands and accepts that the world is shit but he can find a way around the shit.

When you watch AMYGDALA it will explain his scar. Yoongi uses Agust D to explore his alter ego that is forbidden so he’s just unlocking that part of himself. Like the smoking he mentioned in an interview that he’s 30 but people try to force their views on idols saying they should do this or that so that’s why he added that smoking scene in the MV.

Well now Yoongi is on I will do everything mode before I turn too old to try new things: this is Dancer Yoongi. He is eating the world. He is embracing everything. He looks happy, content with himself, enjoying life. He took dancing lessons, singin lesons and dozens more. He is upgrading himself. You can interpret daechwita on a story level...then a more personal level after seeing amygdala. So on a story level I interpret haegeum as continuation of the character from Daechwita. I think the guy in a suit with the scar is rebel agust d that killed the mad king. In haegeum he is a police detective. In the behind the scene video Yoongi referred to him as such. But he is a corrupt detective that is running a drug operation on the side. Then you have the new scarless agust d...he comes to invade scarred agust D’s headquarters to get the money. It seems the main goal is to lure scarred agust d into a confrontation. In one scene you see one guy calling the detective but as scarless agust d leaves he nods to the same guy. This is the guy that was holding him down in the water barrel. It seems scarless wanted to provoke the detective so he burns the money. His overall aim is to get close enough to the detective to kill him. Later on scarless agust d seem to take over the operation of the detective as the police car delivers him to headquarters. He then proceeds to eat with the tool he used to kill a man. But he gives the audience a look as if to say ...now what?
After I watched amygdala...I now have a different interpretation that is more personal to Yoongi! all I can say is with the three videos I can safely say...Yoongi is a genius!

it's very similar to Daechwita, the king from Daechwita is the Detective here and the other person anti to the King (I.e Suga) is the thief here. Also, there are similarities in the shots in both the videos. There's a sense of betrayal from the authority's side in both Daechwita and Haegeum since Suga comes up with a g*n in both towards the end.

  • @audreyt01
    @audreyt01 Před rokem +6

This song and his whole album got me on a f-ing LEASH. MIN YOONGI SIR. ok this might be long but I'll try to sum the video up after seeing it on replay and hearing others thoughts.
At first it looks like Yoongi and the guys are robbing the place, and then there was a guy that immediately called someone. In the next scene, AgustD (the detective yoongi) is on a call (which I think he's receiving from the lackey?). Yoongi then in the bath tub scene is being held on gunpoint by AgustD, and then burned his money. At the end, Yoongi offed AgustD. The 'after credits' to me might be Yoongi realizing that the chopsticks he used for the purpose of 'punishing' AgustD by taking out his crew and his money is the same he's using to feed himself. Like, "huh, everyone is affected by capitalism and I'm in the cycle too". Idk, open to other's interpretation💜
The title Haegeum (to unlock something that's forbidden) and the lyrics is essentially criticizing the world, capitalism, etc which Yoongi (and other BTS songs) have touched and been vocal about. With the MV attached, it's like a visual representation of 'people of power' being under capitalism, being greedy (detective AgustD), under the guise of 'freedom' but is actually self-indulgance. The lyrics also mentioned/hinted basically that *if you understand* the difference of freedom and self-indulgence, and knowing several things you believe is 'freedom' can be the cause of death of other people, then this song is for you.
Overall, the MV is showing all the things that are considered forbidden (obv the violence, stealing etc) but he also smoked, which is something that's like the unspoken? or commonly known thing Idols 'shouldn't' do but Heck Yeah! Yoongi, again, is just showing that Idols are human, and do other things other humans in this world do.
This album is Yoongi once again being a genius and such a brave and strong person. He's always shared a lot through his music but this album is truly his most vulnerable and feels like a hug imo. Sorry for the really long comment. Thanks for the reaction! Take care everyone💜💜

In his trilogy killing his alter ego is symbolic for overcoming internal conflict. In Daechitwa yoongi overcame his need to prove himself and his skills to haters. The power hungry king gets removed in favor of the Youngi who just wants to make music. In Haegum he wants to rid himself of societies expectations and pitfalls(not being bound to capitalism and the demands of the information age). Both versions of himself smirk because no matter which version wins it is still Youngi.

  • @alifc1082

Ok.. This trilogy thing... It's because of this 3 albums/mixtapes as August D and the theme of them all :himself. His vision of himself, his life, his vision of the world around him, all. It's not a trilogy mv... And the subject of one mv has nothing to do with the subject in the other.. Except for the presence of himself, his person is different contexts.
I guess the reason people refer to the mvs as a 3 set would be about the scar, the continues presence of the scar.. Even if in the last one is the beginning, but Suga has said it from Daechwita, how the scar it's a physical representation of the harm we inflict on owrselfs, the damage, the scars we carry on the inside. And with that you can maybe see the trajectory of his mental state or how he sees himself changing

I have seen BTS live 5 times and the Suga tour will be number 6. this is not a brag but simply to say that only one of those times i actually saw them in the State where I live. all the other times including my upcoming trip to see Suga has involved me traveling to have the experience. for BTS it was worth it every time. For both Daechwita and Haegeum, he kills a part of himself that has become a monster (reference The Last). That part of him that wants more, that wants fame, money, infamy. The part of him that has been through so much trauma and makes him fear the world. He repeatedly tries to kill the scarred Agust D.
You’ll see more about it in the Amygdala mv. And also, in the D-Day tour… the way the stage moves and leaves him at the end on floor level with the audience feels like the taking down of Agust D and unravels his ego and leaves him, at his core, as Min Yoongi.

I lost the use of my brain with trying to understand this trilogy, so at this point I'm just copying and pasting my comments from other reaction videos and just adding any additional thoughts. 😂
I love this in multiple different ways. I love how the story and MV here ties in with Daechwita.
So yeah haegeum is a traditional two stringed instrument, which was used in the song, but also means "An act of withdrawing a ban, or releasing what is hidden". So the word has a two meanings, one of which to me is all about gaining freedom. Daechwita and Haegeum are like two parallel storylines, like the two strings on the instrument. I mean the production, style, colour grading, the plot are all paired, and even within the plots the characters are paired. But they have small differences as well. Daechwita had the king, and the historical setting, while also having the modern bits like the car, and the clothing of the non-king Agust D. He took down the king there with the help of the executioner. Then here again the authority figure of the corrupt police officer, abusing his power, who gets taken down by the non-scarred version, with the help of his subordinates, but it everyone seems to be dressed for the same era here. I think the dude crouching on the phone at the start is the guy dunking him in the barrel at the end, so it was all planned. It's just different time periods.
I was kind of seeing it as like the lyrics in Daechwita "I'm the king I'm the boss". First he was the corrupt king, and he killed that version of himself, becoming the boss, and bragging about not needing to flex his power. And maybe that boss was lost to the same corruption and power and is the scarred police baddie here, who is then destroyed by the tangerine thieving, chopstick abuser. It's all a big violent metaphor for growth and change and ending the previous versions of yourself. A fitting end to the trilogy.
I have some more thoughts that tie in to Amygdala MV so I'll leave those for the comment section when you react to that. 😅
I also love the historical instruments in each song. Not only naming the tracks after traditional music style, and an actual instrument in this case, but the usage of it on the tracks too. Like it truly shows his love of music, and the fact he named the songs after the music style and instrument means literally millions of people will be learning a little bit of Korean history without even meaning to.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Did u spot that there are 6 gang members with Suga. o.0 Suga always has BTS represented in his MVs. He so sweet. Jimin ult bias, Suga wrecker, OT7.
He looks so hot. Love the souvenir jacket his wearing. I have one too but mine is black and has cranes on it. I love dragons though and my fav color is blue & black. I kind of thought we would not have a song like Daechwita on this album. Well guess i was wrong, huh. 0.0 I was really surprised on 1st watch. I never thought he would connect 3 MVs together. 0.0 That is brilliant. Suga is such a genius. I love it. Suga during the premier said to listen to Daechwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala. So that's what i am going to do. Powerful song. I like that we continue the story from Daechwita. But this song is more violent. Geez. He is such a savage! I liked it. Good rhythm. Suga is a visual. Excited to rewatch the MVs in order like he suggested. Did u spot the Joker reference i missed that. Ur reaction was many of us. He is such a boss! Esosa Yoongi got 30 songs plus not counting collabs. So more than 30 songs! All of them are good too. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army 💟

So Haegeum means allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden. His whole album is overflowing with his emotions, and not only does he talk to himself in his album, he talks directly to the listener (especially with one particular song, where it almost feels like he breaks the 'fourth wall'. I've experienced it via a movie before, but never by song, until now) there are ARMY translator accounts on Twitter, so if you want to listen to his album on Spotify or Apple music etc, you can have the lyrics pulled up to help you understand what he is expressing 💜
    ScreamCheeese said on 4/21/23
Haegeum also means “to liberate” or “to release” from bans, restraints, or something forbidden. You also really need to see Daechwita!! You’ll understand a lot more of this MV and it’s just as amazing! Just a movie-like. Min Yoongi is a genius for a reason 😩
    Plants healing said on 4/21/23
Haegeum has two meanings. The first is a traditional Korean stringed instrument used in this music "this song's a haegeum", and the second, as the lyrics say, "a new kind of haegeum" means "unlock".
Yoongi uses both haegeum in his lyrics.
    Addison McDorman said on 4/22/23
Haegeum: the English lyrics & the meaning.
Haegeum is a song about unlocking our new potentials, freeing something previously forbidden. The word “Haegeum” has a double meaning. On one side, it’s a traditional Korean string instrument that has a very peculiar sound, but this is not the authentic meaning Agust D/Suga intended originally.
Haegeum” means “allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden.” Here is how he explained it in an interview:
The word “Haegeum” came to me when I was young. I played rhythm games, I loved rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you’d unlock a forbidden song, then you could play a new rhythm. It was a “freedom from the forbidden.” Why don’t I try and break free from those things?
This is explicitly confirmed by the English translation of the lyrics in Haegeum:
This song’s simply about freeing what’s forbidden but you must remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence
    This song’s a haegeum
    Get on board now
    This lively rhythm
    A new kind of haegeum
    Marissa McWhiter said on 4/22/23
The second meaning of haegeum is the lifting of the ban of something forbidden.
Adding what I think the story is based on things I’ve heard from other reactors...commentaries and what he said in the d-day documentary.
First of all he did say in his intro of the video during the premiere that this video is the second of a trilogy. He said the three videos meant to be seen together is Daechwita, haegeum and amygdala ...which is coming up!
So I believe the king in Daechwita, the first form of august D, was killed by black haired scar face agust D. But then black hair becomes the boss in Haegeum. He seems to be a police detective or officer that is corrupt. He runs his operation from above the Asian noodle restaurant. New Agust d wants to kill him too! Maybe like in Daechwita it’s because of his corruption. So he invades the headquarters and gets his money. On his way out we see a guy making a phone call to the boss...but new agust d gives him a nod. So I think just like in Daechwita new agust d has a deal with this insider to help him kill the boss. So this new guy didn’t really want the money it was just a bait to get him close to the boss. So like in Daechwita, as he was about to be killed he switches the story and kills the Boss instead. Before the boss gets shot we see the boss smirk. I saw a comment that this could be because he knows that this New guy will also meet his fate! So in the end new guy was accepted by the boss’ men and he was delivered to their headquarters the restaurant where he takes over. The final Shot of him eating with the tool he used to kill a man suggests that the violence will sustain him. So now we will wait for amygdala to see how the story ends!
So the song itself was explained by Suga in the documentary. He explains that as idols there are a lot of things they seem to be restricted from doing, acts that are normal for some will become controversies for idols. Like if his smoking at the age of 31 will be seen as wrong then he wants this song to be the start of liberating or lifting some of the restrictions put on them. He also talked about the effect on too much information and how easy to get them also starts to restrict thinking. It’s a very deep song!
The funny thing is...this song has triggered a bit of hate from kpop on social media! Fans of other groups are thinking Yoongi was targeting them...or even saying he shouldn’t be against capitalism since he is from Hybe! Lol totally missing the point of the song...or maybe just proving Yoongi’s observations!
He’s a genius! The rest of the album is genius! I hope you do an album reaction!

what's amazing is that in the MV, hanja 解禁 was on the screen which = haegeum, in terms of "to lift a ban" not 奚琴 = haegeum the instrument. WHICH MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE because the lyrics talk a lot about judgement, prejudice, and being free from all that. something about it is so raw, and honestly, i feel like it's a big fu to those who try to "cancel" grown idols for doing something normal humans do, like him "smoking" in the MV or just dating, or any issues some fans can't accept. "This song is a haegeum" meaning this song is targeting kpop "fans" who always make a big deal out of things that are not even supposed to be controversial HE'S SO ICONIC FOR THIS.

Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 13:36. This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychological condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list.

    I have a theory :
did you notice how in both haegeum and daechwita, the higher rank agustd is assassinated ( the king in daechwita and the police officer in haeguem) because he was deceived by someone who he felt could be trusted, the lower rank agustd sets a trap and higher rank agustd constantly falls for it which leads to his death.
For example: the guy telling officer about the fight happening in the building in the first scene who was on the call and then we were shown police agustd on a call as well. then the same guy was the guy who was drowning lower rank agustd but lifted him up and he came out with a gun and hence killed the higher rank agustd.
Simultaneously the guy who untied lower rank yoongi's ropes in daechwita and handed him the gun to kill the king was also someone who the king trusted but betrayed him and helped the lower rank agustd to assasinated the king.
Haeguem means to free something that's forbidden, this was said by yoongi in his documentary that " we don't see idols smoking cigarette publicly as some fans get on them saying they aren't the perfect idols and also how fans want idols to be perfect but we can see that agustd was shown smoking in the M/V which led to showing us that he's doing things that are forbidden and he wants to free those things that it's okay to do stuff and its nothing wrong in it.
I also saw another theory by an army on twitter i'll mention her account if i find it but she said something like " The cop is a commoner agustd from daechwita. he keeps comin back to becoming corrupted by anger, greed and power so he had to reborn as a rebel and kill that part of himself. or there was another one that said that the haeguem is that he finally killed the reincarnated king as a rebel.
There are just too many theories and each theory can be proved true but i shared some of my fav as these felt like these could fit more ( idk ) any other armies wanna share their theories lol ( its always fun reading theories )

Warning you now amygdala is probably going to be hard to watch. There’s a trigger warning at the beginning that will go into a tad more detail but the MV is itself is a tough one to get through... Oh also I insist you look up what amygdala means in depth a little because it’ll help you understand a lot more of what he’s saying/the images in the MV. Tho actually I’ll tell you a little about it so you’ll know what to look for, it’s basically a part of the brain that stores trauma, fears, and unpleasant experiences, and controls how you respond to said experiences/trauma in your life

It's opposite actually. The office cop is kinda continuation of the character in the daechwita who killed the king. They both have a scar on face. The cop is shown to be a corrupted officer, whose illegal or corruped money the robber suga stole. But he didnt need the money, he stole it to lure the officer out or be in his attention, that's why burnt it later. So that he can kill that officer. Thats why there is that joker reference in the end scene, as he wanted to be caught. In starting scene you can see a guy calling cop yoongi to tell that there been robbery at his gang hand out place.
It's just a parallel of daechwita where the commoner killed the king with the help of king guards. Here cop's gang men helped robber yoongi to kill officer.
This whole mv is a genius movieplay with amazing plot. Also yoongi said that the three mvs are connected and once the third mv is released we should watch all three in one sitting.
