Volk Racing vs KICS R40 iconix Lug Nuts - design and theft prevention

  • Hey guys here is a quick video of my thoughts on the difference in theft prevention between the Volk Racing and Project KICS R40 iconix lug nuts. Both are good lug nuts in their own rights but I think I would have to give the Volk Racing set the edge for theft prevention. Let's also get serious if someone wants to steal your stuff bad enough they will get it regardless of how much protection you have. Hopefully this helps you make a decision on these 2 lug nuts.

    The center caps do have another purpose besides visuals. They're there for people with two sets of wheels(race/daily), if they use spacers for one set and not for the other yet still have extended wheel studs, removing the caps allows the extended studs to go all the way through the lug nut and be able to torque it down.

    Just buy 5 sets of the R40 and only use the locknuts, bam!! Ultimate theft protection!

    The only thing is the iconic ones(key lock) Is different I haven’t seen that design before.the hex style one, really anybody could get and take off In my opinion. But I do like the extra step you have to take I personally think the rays look better as well! I got a pair of te37 and I literally was just on the market looking for a pair decided if anybody did a review and this is what I found great video!

    The Volks seem to use a huge T type of bit maybe a T50/T30 style or similar in which it can easily be removed and bye bye rims! 2 kits of R40s (2 lock nuts per wheel) and you all set! That's what I have on my BMW 7 M series along with a very hidden "kill switch" at I can only easily reach and now about!

      @@omarcarranza8973 I have BMW's own OEM Anti-theft system which has monitoring sensors inside the cabin, vehicle tilting sensors, battery disconnected sensor which disable lots of things in the motor and It just won't start! The only way to steal it is via towing theft...
      For rims security, NOTHING and I mean NOTHING beats the worlds greatest rim locks ever made and unique to every person.... Look into Rimlox.... they are $400 but 100% guaranteed from being stolen. The only way to steal the rim is to DESTROY it! Worth every penny if you have amazing rims...

    How do the R40 stand up to socket scratches when removing and reinstalling?
    Thank you.

      they are actually holding up nicely. there are some minor surface scratches but its hardly noticeable unless you are up close and looking for them. One annoying thing though is that i have lost a couple caps so make sure they are nice and tight

    Its so good n anti theft that if you lose the lockkey, you cant "steal" or open your own wheels!

    I put the volks on my 2012 accord coupe with the 3.5 6 speed with 20" verde parallax wheels and I went to remove them and snapped one off...I've only tried to remove 1 wheel so far because I'm scared that more will break. We had to drill the stud completely out to remove the wheel. I messaged the seller and they sent me a new kit but it still scares me to remove them. Also the floating seat didnt rotate anymore after I removed them. And the cheap plastic key to remove the dust covers stripped out almost immediately and I had to use an allen key to remove them. Overall I wouldnt recommend the volks to anyone.

    Real question is where do you find the rays Lugnuts with the spline inside it? I can only find his style online, I think they stop making that design so you probably have to find old ones which sucks lol lmk anyone

    Are the Volk lugs keys the same as in if I have a 6 spine or hex key and someone else has the same then he can open my lugs? To think of it lock lugs are to protect wheel theft not lug theft so if the R40 has one that locks without a grip on the outside then it doesn’t matter if the rest have grips on them

    • @ACCORDingtoWill
      @ACCORDingtoWill  Před 6 lety

      yes i believe that the volk key would be the same for any of the same style lug nut. the R40's have 4 standard hex nuts and 1 specialize lock nut per wheel. I think the R40 has a better theft prevention design.

    a pipe wrench can lose any kinds of lock nuts.

    • @goodtogaz
      @goodtogaz Před 5 lety +3

      Not if the inner edge of the hub prevents a full capture. Even if you got partial contact and were able to clamp hard enough to overcome the initial torque of the lug nuts it would take a long time to turn each nut on every wheel, making it impractical and risky as a thief unless the owner parked in a remote and private location that the thief has access to.

    Titanium lug nuts are perfect 👌😁 Titanium lug nuts are 29% stronger and nearly 50% lighter than steel which results in a decreased rotational wheel mass. I know where can you get it at a great price 😁😁
