tires are more of an art than a science, just look at the machines tires are made on. this is why a new tire has so many errors, out of balance, lateral and radial pull, etc......

What is that tool you used to cut the rubber out on the outside, that looked way more efficient than grinding it all away.

Am I safe to assume that the tire would have to be rebalanced after patching since the patch must add weight?

You should rebalance after removing a tire anyways.

@@bobalobalie Walk through a truck yard. Let us know how many wheel weights you see.

@@ShainAndrews NO ONE really uses wheel exterior weights anymore. It’s all on the inside of the rim. You just use a spinning motor, a laser, somer laser diodes, magnetic epoxyablble wheel weights, a cheap laptop, and a rubber mallet. Yes you should balance your semi truck tires. You will see a 3-5% improvement in gas/diesel MPG. Not to mention a longer lasting tire, less damage to the roads(AKA: tax savings), less tire heat, a more comfortable ride, and less road noise. No different than a passenger car, just in larger volume. In a combined 10 year study with Engineers and Scientists in the employ of Volvo, Mack, Freightliner, and the NHTSA have already determined this. Education is something special, use it.

Tire means you are fatigued. Tyres are what vehicles use.
