Take it from an old Maryland waterman- steam them, don't boil. Joyce, kudos to you. For many years I pulled 500+ pots daily. Most fun I ever had. Mid-Chesapeake Bay, our best day was 100 bushels late 1980s (common on lower Eastern shore but record for our area).
We eat so many crab that we like to cook them different ways steam, boil, bake, griddle and wok just for a change. Thanks for Watching our videos
Well that was something to see, 30 crabs in one trap. Got to be honest, I was so happy for you both, great video thanks x 👌💯🇬🇧🇬🇧
I would never turn down a invitation to come down and go crabbing with both of you
That was a beautiful pot of 30 crabs!! If all your traps had 30 each that day, what a huge mess of crabs that would have been. I am a senior myself and have known many couples but you guys are the best sportsmen couple I have ever known. I know everybody envies you all because I know I sure do. May God Bless you both and I love you guys. Be safe doing your videos.
That was a lot of crabs for one trap. We both love the outdoors that's what keeps us going, we just push ourselves. Thanks for Watching our videos
Best crabbing video yet…30 crabs 🦀 in one pot 😮 Good job Sam and Joyce. 😘😘😘
Holy Cow, that red trap. I love it 26 crabs in 1 trap. Get ‘‘em Joyce. 🦀❤️
WOW!!! 8 days ago I called it that you would surpass 5K subscribers in the next 2 weeks. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Did you ever think you would have 5K viewers craving your videos? What an amazing catch!!!
We never dreamed that would happen. Thanks a lot for Watching we really appreciate it
I noticed your Capt Starns plates and bowls. Authentic and a fabulous keepsake of Atlantic City's glory days. That Restaurant was one of the jewels in the crown in all of Atlantic City history and it literally was one of the most famous seafood restaurants in America for more than 30 years.
I ate there many times. I was just there today to the Bass Pro store.
I started working at Capt. Starn's on the party boats when I was 10 years old 67 years ago later on the commercial fishing boats and sight seeing boats. My best memories when I was young. Thanks for Watching our videos
Whoop whoop! What a haul of crabs! Yummy crustaceans🦀
Thank you for showing how beautiful their colors were. It's cool seeing what y'all are going to catch:)
Hey! I know a Denise Dill who lives right up the road from me. But I know her pickle husband even better. This is Roy.
Well done Sam and Joyce. So lovely too see you have such a good catch. Big love from the UK🙂🇺🇸🇬🇧👍
That red trap was a beast. Love her attitude. Get back these are my traps. I thought crabs had to be boiled live. I learned something new. That's some seafood gourmet cooking.
She likes pulling those pots. We cook them both ways cleaned and whole, cleaned is less messy when eating them. Thanks a lot for Watching
We lived in Md for most of our lives. We each had a fishing license which allowed us to take 2 bushels per day. We used 2 trout lines (2 floats, one on each end of our line with a chain weighting it down with chicken necks tied in slipknots)each was 1,000 feet long. We would put the lines out while it was still dark and started to pull them when the sun rose. We would usually be done by 10 am. Go home and steam the crabs. The neighbors greeted us with breakfast. And we cooked dinner/supper.
That sounds like fun. I've been meaning to try a trotline here in Florida. When I was young and lived in N.J. we used a similar rig with hooks to catch Codfish but it was 5 miles long, it took a while to pull it in. We keep the lines in what we called tubs each tub = 1 mile. Thanks a lot for Watching
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors we used a hose reel to put the baited line on, my husband unrolled the liner while I drove the boat. When we were done we removed the bait from the line, kept the slip knots in it and put in a wooden basket to be baited the following weekend. Enjoy your time on the water. We are retired now and have take up bee keeping. GOD Bless y’all
Great job you guys caught a lot of crabs and Joyce does a wonderful job preparing them and Sam you are a great crab picker that’s a lot of work y’all be blessed 💕
😮😮😮 Nice Haul. I Wish I Was Sitting At Your Dinner Table!! They Look Sooooo Good 👍👍👍
Be careful Sam not to touch the traps when Joyce is pulling them in. I saw that mean look on her face when you politely asked her if she wanted help. LOL I have watched all your great videos and rewatch lots of them EVERY day. I watch your channel every day for new videos. I never get tired of watching them over and over. Thank you both for sharing your videos.
She's afraid I'll take her job away lol. We're glad you enjoy our videos
That was the most crabs I have ever seen in a crab trap.I am envious of y’all they just look great cooking in the pot. Joyce us making a fashion statement with her new crabbing boots, they sure are good luck. Really enjoyed the video y’all stay safe and keep the videos coming so much fun. Awesome crab dinner.
I'm not trying to disrespect you old couple, I don't think y'all old until your heart's tell so and plus you're only as old as your heart's feel . You both look mighty strong , up and about.God bless you both, enjoy yourselves. 👍✌️💯
Y'all oughta make a crab shack restaurant. That looked devine!!! Thank you guys. With love from good ol Texas.
I love you both and that is no lie. Love your vids. Old Master Gunnery SGT USMC.
When I lived on the shores of Galveston bay I had 4 crab traps tied to my dock. Every day after work I'd get the crabs out and put them in my floating holding box. It had food for them in it too, because if they didn't have any food they'd eat each other. Every Saturday morning I'd steam all of my crabs and then sit and pick out the meat while I watched the Saturday morning westerns. I used the meat to make crab cakes and stuffed crab! I eat steamed crabs too, but I prefer crab cakes and stuffed crabs more.
That sounds good, we also make a lot of crab cakes. Thanks a lot for Watching
That was a great day of crabbing. We just caught a ton of ribbon fish in our shrimp trawl net. We'll have to try some of them in our traps. Thanks for sharing!
They worked for us, we catch them in the cast net shrimping. We enjoy watching your shrimping videos on your Parker. I used to work on a Trawler when I was young we used to stay out for a Week at a time catching different varieties of fish. I sure couldn't do that kind of work now lol.
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors I bet being out on the water that long was a tough job. I like shrimp trawling as a hobby. I love to be out there on good days and enjoy the challenge of making the videos. I'm what people call a fair-weather shrimper. LOL! It's great to see you two out there on the water enjoying it. You guys, take care and stay safe.
Sam and Joyce it is time to invite me to dinner. Love to watch you guys crab.
Love your excitement 🤣
👍🏼👊🏼🦖🍺
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors you’re wife is a real champ, pulling the traps and being so determined. I admire you two 👊🏼🍺

Boy oh boy was that a pile of crabs in that one trap.. I was excited for you. I was waiting for Joyce to do her crabbie dance. I loved your reaction to all those crabs & you had a blast as we all can see. So thrilled you you guys. Can 't wait to see you on the next video. Maybe it's better to just let the traps stay out one day only.💖✌
Maria I think one day is enough because they can get out, so you gain one and lose one. Thanks again for Watching
Great video, thanks for sharing
I really enjoy watching you guys crab 🦀. Growing up in South Jersey I used to love crabbing , oh how I miss it !! God bless and keep on crabbing.

I love your videos.
You guys are awesome
Thanks Benjamin, we're glad you enjoy our videos and Thanks a lot for Watching.
Great haul. Had a good season here in R.I. but it's coming to an end. Love your videos.
That's why I moved to Florida. Winter came and I'd get cabin fever lol. I did some Cod and Boston Mackerel fishing in the winter but I got tired of the cold, it gets nasty offshore. Thanks a lot for Watching
Another great video Sam and Joyce my mouth waters every time I look at your videos I like how Joyce changes up the recipe very creative God Bless and stay safe.
Lived in MD.most of my liofe ,Sure miss the crab,an oyster feeds we had almost every weekend during the seasons.Yor vids make mymouth water.Thanks.
We hope our videos bring back some good memories. Thanks a lot for Watching
You two remind me of my parents in Australia my mum would pull all 30 to 40 pots in the river all day
Joyce doesn't want anything to do with the boat but she loves pulling the traps. We have several viewers from Australia. Thanks for Watching our videos
Holy crabs you guys!!! I'm blown away and very jealous that you guys are well enough to get out and do this.....and you get to eat them too! I'm not able to do either. God bless you both! ❤🙏🇺🇸👍🙂
Man, that was a lot of Crab in that one Trap. Mrs. Joyce sure can cook them up. Enjoyed it
Love you videos I keep bugging my husband to take me crabbing and fishing. Love to get outdoors. We need Joyce to do a video on how she makes her bread and rolls.
Keep bugging him, when Joyce bugs me enough she gets her way lol. Thanks a lot for Watching
Sam! Joyce! Bill from Washington County. Follower of Back Water, and y'all. 71 years young. Keep on rocking in the free world!
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors Gotta show them young whipper snappers we got it. Heck, I'm working part-time to supplement SS. :D
I enjoy your videos Sam and Joyce. I watch them over and over. Keep them coming Hello from Birmingham, Alabama! Stay safe
Yall alright? Florida taking a beating all over this year. Fantastic catch. As usual. Showing the good times. Praying all is well.
Phil, you're right, we'll be ok as long as we don't get any rain for a while.
Hey Joyce, you are an amazing cook. Thanks for sharing your recipes. I can't wait to copy them, when health permits. Take care.
Boy I wish I was with you! Looks like you two were having FUN and enjoying cooking and EATING Them
Wooo hooo alot of crabs
What a great mess of crabs. Just came across your channel and subbed right away. 🦀
Up in maryland working, just bought 5 red traps up here other day just like yours. cant wait back home to florida to get them in water. Cleaning 70 crabs might make this last crab video of year, i wouldnt want to even look at one after cleaning that many!
Picking them takes a lot longer than cleaning. Good luck with your new traps. Thanks a lot for Watching
this video reminds me of a great old tv show called the deadliest catch, i think it was called, but a much more gentle and mild version of it.
A mini version I guess but G rated lol. Thanks again for Watching
Great catch! I really miss crabbing! My Dad I spent many an hour crabbing in the waters surrounding Savannah, Georgia. We ate and loved boiled crabbing, deviled crabbing, and hot crab dip. What great memories. Y'all enjoy all of those 🦀 crabs. Thank you for sharing your time with us 😊. Pam in South Carolina ❤️ p.s. we always threw the females back. That way we would have crabs to catch the next year
Glad we could bring back those good memories. About the female crabs, the commercial crabbers catch a 100 times the amount we catch but they don't throw them back the few we catch doesn't mean anything except it might make us look good. Thanks a lot for Watching we really appreciate it.
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors It just made Daddy and me feel better throwing the egg ladder female back. We would crab and cast for shrimp all weekend. After we filled our 19 cubic ft. freezer up, we would just give coolers full of shrimp away to people on the people on the bridges. We had such a good time! Thank you both again 💓.
New sub! Great video!!! Beautiful couple 😀
Thanks a lot for Subscribing and watching our videos we really appreciate it
Joyce looks like she knows how to cook.

That red trap was hot. Nice hearing from you Presley, We appreciate you watching our videos
Love y'all!
Thanks
I'm born and raised in South Florida and I haven't had blue crabs in forever. But I did go to the keys last weekend to see my kids and was able to go out and pull some stone crabs clews and they were yummy
Stone crabs are great and very expensive. Thanks a lot for Watching
I love potato salad! I bet that is great with potatoes cooked in crab broth. I still hope Joyce will make a crab and corn chowder for us to see. Her cooking is as enjoyable as the crabbing 😁
Lucia, we have a crab and shrimp chowder video coming up. We'll do the corn in the future.
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors oh, I’m really excited! I can’t catch my own here in MN, but I can still buy some to make chowder!
Many theories about what vinegar does . Why do you add it ? My wife and I went to cedar island NC for our honeymoon. We were married Sept 10 of this year . I bought 2 pots like you have and baited them with chicken necks , shrimp , and some kinda fish. I checked them 2 times a day for 4 days in a row . Caught a grand total of 16 crabs . Not complaining though . It was a blast ! Still don't know how to throw the $ 80 cast net I bought though. But it was a great time and we had fun . Already got the same place reserved for same time next year !
You did great with the crabs. The vinegar makes them easier to pick. Thanks for Watching and congratulations on your wedding, Joyce and I have been married for 56 years.
@@TheOldCoupleOutdoors I heard that about the vinegar and will definitely try it . I only wish I will be married to my beautiful wife that long . I am 53 already . But I WILL cherish her and the time I have with her . Thank you and congratulations on your marriage lasting. True love is def hard to find
We’ll the wife walked in and saw the 30 crab one trap catch. Looks like I’m going to become a crabber, or at least try. I’m in Jacksonville so will be mostly on the St Johns river and inter-coastal. Any tps on time of year, water temp etc and if better closer to the ocean or back up the river south towards Palatka would be appreciated. Thank you guys for the great videos and entertainment. Your the best.
You should do good where you're at. We crab year round in the river, at first spread your traps out and in different depths that way you'll find the best spots. We set ours in 10 to 18 feet of water in the river. Good Luck
