Albany, Atlanta, Tallahassee, Oklamhoma City
Trenton, Nashville, Concord, Dover, Little Rock, Des Moines
Sacramento, Olympia, Montpelier, Jackson, Carson City
Juneau, Denver, Raleigh, Austin, Boston!
Capital!
Just one city in every state
Where the governor and legislators stay up late
Got the name, got the fame, the political weight, hey!
Capital!
Providence, Topeka, Santa Fe, Indi(annapolis), Annapolis
St. Paul, Jefferson City, Honolulu, Baton Rouge
Harrisburg, Columbia, Augusta, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Salem
Madison, Cheyenne, I'm thinkin' Lincoln!
Capital!
Just one city in every state
Where the shiny politicians contemplate our fate
Taking aim, making claims in the friendly debate, hey!
Capital!
Bismarck, Boise, Springfield
Frankfurt, Richmond, Columbus
Charleston, Helena, Capital
Lansing, Hartford, Montgomery!
Just one city in every state
Turn the political machine on, watch it percolate
Lots of Honest Abes kissing babes, making each state great!
Capital!
Just one city... Capital!
(Oh, no! Oh, no! Pierre! Pierre! We forgot Pierre!)
That's me yelling "Oh no, oh no! Pierre, Pierre! We forgot Pierre! Arrgghhhh!" Very proud to have written this song. Memorize it and you'll excel at social studies.
Heh! Very awesome! And so glad I had the chance to catch y'all live in the South Bay (California) at some random school performance many years ago.
Now could you do a new song featuring international capitals or convince the current Rockapella folks to do that? :)
They showed us this song in my 5th grade music class as part of music history, we jammed out to this song, and that was always our favorite part! We'd get all quiet and listen in to hear it. On behalf of all of us, thank you! :D
Sean Altman I like this song and another one you did with Rockapella about all the seas. You guys sang it on "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?", and it was to the tune of Billy Joel's "For The Longest Time". I've been trying to find it on CZcams (sorry, I can't help myself!) for the longest time, but have had no luck.
Sean Altman, you are correct! My 7th grade social studies teacher gave us a state capital pre-test and said anyone who got them all right could skip the rest of the assignments for the quarter. After shocking him nearly to death with my smarts, I brought my walkman to class everyday for the rest of the quarter and jammed to your music while I waited for the stooges to catch up.
Had this CD as a kid. Even saw Rockapella preform at our HS gymnasium, and won a ticket to the after concert pizza party!
Good times.
Totally listened to this on cassette tape from the library in the 90s 😂 I can only remember the beginning part "Albany Atlanta Tallahassee Oklahoma City.."
I was an adult when this series came out....and I Loved It! Half the appeal was just the songs and Rockapella, total perfection. 🥰
This is how I memorized the capitals in 8th grade geography. WITWICS was still on TV.
Ha! LOVE this song!! I learned all the state capitals when I was about 12 from listening to this song and dancing around my room... I'm 33 now and searched for this song to teach my 7yr old daughter the same!
Love how catchy it is 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍👍👍
It’s 2024 and I’m at work. Didn’t think I’d still know the words and singing them at work! 😂😅
LOL LOL OH,NO OH,NO PIERRE! PIERRE WE FORGOT PIERRE!!!!
I totally aced a geography test in middle school my memorizing this song! Felt like I was cheating.
I don't know if it's a separate track, because I have the cassette version, but that part happens right before Let's Get Away From Get It All. LOL. Classic. The mayor called mad because they "forgot" Pierre.
I love Sean Altman's voice here .__.;
This comes from my favorite album of all time!
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego!
trash
They know. They mispronounce Pierre on purpose. On the album they have a between song track of an actual voice mail message from the governor scolding them for the mispronounciation and touting the praises of Pierre. :-)
Because of this mistake, Pierre obviously gets...by far...more attention than if it were sung right. So revel in your added measure of Rockappella Fame !!!
This song and You Only Mean Everything to Me was my favorite from that album. I use to know all the words to this song.
I wish I still had cassette.
@GeoJoe2000 It's funny, I remember the tape of this I had as a kid had a message from the mayor of Pierre correcting them.
DO IT ROCKAPELLA!!
they should have tgis on spotify
Actually, it IS in the song. If you listen in the background at 2:40, you can hear it.
It's from the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego cd.
Can’t find it anywhere except you tube unfortunately I had the cassette not even Amazon has it I checked
@Alsebra Yeah, I finally was able to hear it.
As a person's name you usually hear "P air" but town names very often are pronounced differently than you would think (Olean, NY, (Oh-lee-ann) Versailles, NY, (Ver, Sales!) Monticello, NY, (Monta-sello!) Buena Vista, CO, (Byoona-vista) etc) so I know what you mean!!
Brilliant!
Barely catch Columbus but after a couple trys, I did.
omg we used to listen to this in 5ht grade!!!
I’m from Australia.
There’s no need for a song like this in Australia, there are only six states and six state capitals.
Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart.
I don't remember if it was a separate track on this CD, but somewhere I remember hearing an answering machine message from the mayor of Pierre talking about this song. Hilarious stuff, I loved Carmen Sandiego when it was on air.
It was the mayor actually, but either way it was funny!
Me too!
Why do I have the urge to make a dance video to this?
Go for it!
trash
Please do.
I live a little ways from pierre and this is pretty badass.......................P.S. we call it PEER
from 2:40 to 2:47 he goes "Oh.... No.....Pierre! WE FORGOT PIERRE! AUGHHHHHHH IM GOING TO COMMIT SUICIDE"
@TVFan94 oh, no, they do sing it. Actually, they yell it. at 2:40. It's hard to hear Elliot yelling it.
Pierre is pronounced "peer."
NOT "P air." Although it is French so it should probably be "P air," but it isn't. Don't try to say otherwise; I live in Pierre, I would know.
@bobrob2004
@2:46 You really have to listen carefully to hear it, though.
@FunkyHonkyCDXX
Yeah, it's behind the music but it's definitely there.
Yôtoshite burning hell awaits led Kashmir little illusion Tsuki postmortem no motor
@SwordsDragonsAndCoke they were?!?!?!
The carmen sandiego soundtrack
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it was a lyric in the song. (It's not).
hey sasha!
@danielw1245 it happens at 2:41 (yes I am fully aware of the fact that you made this comment 2 years ago)
@danielw1245 put both earphones in haha
oh wait, hi person i know!
Gah, sorry I messed up the song title. -__-; I can't seem to delete my comment in order to repost and fix it....
Let's Get Away From It All.
That's because they don't say it.
Im bored
"Capital" means "money". You meant "Capitol".
"Capital" refers to the city or town. "Capitol" refers to the building. In any case, the "Capital" spelling is what is on the official Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego soundtrack.
aaaaaaaand schooled. :D
