    I live in Ukraine and russians attack our electric and heat infrastructure, so I play my switch during daily blackouts in complete dark.
    But I can play only physical games, since Switch doesn't run downloaded games without Internet. Sad Nintendo can't deal with account sharing and makes gaming inconvenient for us

      I've been paying close attention to this war since the beginning and I am 100% on your side. My deepest sympathies for you and all the people of your country who are passing through a terrible time because of one evil person I truly hope you can stay safe until this is resolved, hopefuly soon. You are on the rightful side and also on the winning side right now, stay strong and cause I think Putin will have to cave soon, he is destroying his country with this meaningless war.
      It means a lot to me that even during this terrible time you watched this video. Thank you so much. Cool to know that you are able to tune away from the conflict through the Switch by using physical media. See, this is the kind of thing people forget that makes physical games better, they cant be removed from you that easily. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this message, Zeus Sugi, stay safe, and Merry Christmas if you celebrate it! Slava Ukraini!

      @FromTheVoidGames Glory to heroes! Thank you. We depply appreciate your support. We are winning with the military help your country provides!
      I live far from the warline, so my relatives have temporarily moved in my mother's house. They brought 5 kids, 6-12 years old. I left them a Switch with an additional controller and a bunch of games. They loved it! Mario Party was their favorite, and my nephew managed to finish Zelda BotW. He desired more! So I gave him Skyward Sword, but no matter how much I told him the game was great and fun, he still refused to play it, because of art style and no open world.
      Later, we made a wooden claymore for him to play outside.
      I hope children had a fun summer, despite their mothers being worried for husbands who serve the military. And for relatives who stayed at home.
      Later two kids with their mother returned home, because their city was liberated.
      But now we have regular blackouts in Whole Ukraine because of attacks.
      Victory will be bright!

    you can still re-download games you already bought on xbox. including Duck Tales. you just need to go into the settings and find purchase history, or account history, or whatever the option is called, and scroll to the date you bought the game. i thought i had lost Kingdoms of Amalur forever since its not listed in a regular search of the store, but finding it in your purchase history does allow you to redownload.

      I should have ellaborated more on this in the video. Right now Duck Tales remasetered is back in the stores, so I could redownload it, but when it happened many years ago I'm pretty sure they removed it alltogether. You couldn't even redownload it even if you had already bought it. I was pretty sure about this, but checking now I can't seem to find confirmation as apparently it depended on the platform to keep redownloads open or not. Steam surely would not allow redownloads, but I can't find confirmation on the Xbox 360, so I may have been wrong. In any case that prompted me to but a physical copy of the game, on the Wii U which was the cheaper one, so now I don't even want the digital anymore :D.

      P.T. is the only exception I can think of with this. I claimed the game online, but could never download it, since I didn't get a PS4 until after it was removed. Fans have been asking Konami to let us redownload it. I really hope this never becomes normalized

      Thans Robin, glad you enjoyed! Totally agree. The Switch is the best system to me despite the lacking horsepower. the cartridge based aspect is one of the major reasons. I can't stand not being able to use the game inside the midia because the disc loads too slow. Thats just dumb, all companies should migrate to cartridge in my opinion. The Vita has it, why others don't just makes no sense, we keep running out of digital space to store and solutions are expensive. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Robin!

  • @ScottE-2
    @ScottE-2 Před 2 lety +2

    I agree with the issues of digital games using online saves or generally a cloud based system. Something that worries me about PowerWash Simulator is just how easy it is for you to lose your progress. In particular if your internet connection isn't fast enough to sync with the cloud to get your save, you risk losing your progress which could be 5 hours or in my case 40. There's also the fact that some games just EAT away at your ram on PC, I've seen some titles (not on steam but reported elsewhere) just eat away at 11 MB of ram for a light novel no less. I don't have to worry about this sort of thing on the switch. It isn't the strongest console out there and I'm aware some games have stability trouble but the convenience of it just running the game on input beats waiting 1-2 minutes vs a disc. Though some games do take that bit of time like in the case of Pokémon BDSP. But there is one thing that a digital game has over physical, the ability to modify unnecessary restrictions that slowdown the game needlessly. The example that comes to mind would be with Sonic Mania and the thing they put in place to stop piracy.
    Either way, the whole issue of physical vs digital will always remain a problem since it is one that remains unaddressed by the corporations about the availability of games. Gabe Newell may have said long ago that piracy was a service problem, he was half right. The other half being the preservation of games, piracy in an odd twist allows them to be protected from being digitally lost forever.
    Great video nonetheless, I don't like how the game was falsely advertised.

    • @FromTheVoidGames
      @FromTheVoidGames  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks Scott! Great point about the possibility of modifying something in the digital that can't be removed in the physical like the piracy prevention in Sonic Mania, had not thought about that one!
      Agreed on the other consideration about the problem remaining indefinetly since corporations are allowed to remove them from us for whatever reason. I think the solution there would be laws that force them to maintain the games available for those who bought it, only allowing removals in case of the discontinuation of the entire system, or maybe bankrupcy of the IP owner or some other specific cases. Yeah, emulation totally saves the day, and its not even piracy if you are emulating a game you bought the right way. In that sense I beleve I have the legal right to emulate Duck Tales Rematered. funny to think of that lol. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, Scott!

    Agree with you totally! Historically, the advantage of owning physical was the ability to play immediately. Given that the physical copy of a game is usually a very early version, patching is almost always necessary. If a digital version incorporates recent patching, it can be quicker to install and play than it's physical version!! I do much prefer owning physical copies of games. However, I also have a large Steam library that I enjoy, despite not having any comfort that at some point a developer may choose to remove from the game library. It would be nice to see more consumer-friendly guarantees attached to digital only game purchases. The trade-off for digital games is that they do not require storage (until you install them), don't require shelf space and can be accessed anywhere. Boils down to ownership vs convenience?

    • @FromTheVoidGames
      @FromTheVoidGames  Před 2 lety +1

      Absolutely. And neither side is ideal right now, like you said, physical has lost a lot of its benefits lately, sometimes not even including the game inside the disc, and I get the feeling that this is by design of the big companies. They've been slowly removing the pros from physical, making the shift to digital a bit at a time knowing that a sudden change would not be accepted, but their goal is to have a digital-only console in the future, which would be devastating to consumers. Hope it never happens, but I do fear it. Thanks for watching Tim!

    • @timhewison5187
      @timhewison5187 Před 2 lety +1

      @@FromTheVoidGames To your point, very few physical games include manuals any more. You can see this evolve over console generations. With early gens such a PS1-PS3 or PSP, it was rare for a game not to have manuals. Fast forward to the PS Vita, PS4 and PS5, the game cases are mere sleeves for games or as you mentioned for a "download code".

  • @kill_repeat8491
    @kill_repeat8491 Před 2 lety +1

    In regards to digital games being pulled from stores or revoking access, there is always the risk that the publisher, etc. will add in online checks for being able to play them anyway. Digital preservation is becoming a hot topic and by extension emulation for reasons like these.

    • @FromTheVoidGames
      @FromTheVoidGames  Před 2 lety +2

      True. Even physical games are not immune to that. Remember last year, it was found that PS3 and PS4 has the C-BOMB issue, where it is possible for Sony to make all games, physical and digital not work on the console anymore after a certain date. Crazy. Emulation is the only failsafe we have against all this nonsense. Thanks for watching Kill_Repeat!

    I prefer digital. I like having all my games on my console ready to play. Discs/ Carts get to be hard to manage after you get more than 20 or 30 and can start dominating a room. For handelds, they become extremely portable when you can leave the game behind.
    I'm not worried about losing my purchases. I stick to older consoles with broken security where I can back things up. I hold on to my receipts as a token of ownership similar to physical collector with their boxes and media.

      Thats clever, backing up your consoles. Pretty important for digital and for keeping save files too. I only have my PS3 and 3DS backed up so far. Need to do more. There is a third option that you may not have considered. When I ran out of space on my Wii U console I added a 2TB external HDD to add space for all of the digital games I'm downloading from the Wii U eshop before the shutdown. I plan to do the same for my PS4 when I need it. So I would suggest getting a 2-4tb external HDD for PS4/PS5 & Xbox

    • @FromTheVoidGames
      @FromTheVoidGames  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey The Badcompany! Agreed! I should have added this in the video, but I have a 4TBs external HD dedicated to my PS4, and even then I am almost running out of space, which is one big reason why I like spreading my digital games through all my consoles as much as possible at all times, so not to run out of space in any of them. I also have a 500GBs on my Wii U, which is half full and a 532GBs SD card on my Switch, with about 350 filled in and similar cases on my 3DS and Vita. I admit that I am a hardcore consumer, but even taking the extra steps and spending the extra money on external storage spaces te issue persists. If only we didn't have the threat of companies removing games I wouldn't worry about this neary as much. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!

    Ideally I like having physical and DRM Free digital copies. One notable thing is that the Switch is portable so moving around cartridges rather than just having access to memory is an added risk of losing your copies. You also will see way bigger sales on digital copies these days. But because of the problems you mentioned with digital as well as the loss of resale value, I only will buy games at 75% or more off digitally. I also appreciate digital for bringing super expensive or region limited exclusives as the WiiU Virtual Console did. Although if they had WiiU Virtual Console compilation discs I'd be waaaay more inclined to get those. NES Remix was the closest we got.

    Yes. Yes. Yes. I've been saying this since the PS3 era when my brother got rid of all his physical games and started buying only digital and got the ps plus subscription. He says he has all these games on ps plus but he doesn't. He's just renting them until he's not anymore some time in the future. That's not even my problem these days. I hate that we have to install giant sized games and delete others. I have many PS4 games in my physical collection and I have to install, download etc any time I want to play. I thought I must be the only person with this complaint and this is exactly what made me take so long to start getting into the newer consoles. They are made for people who play one or two AAA games at a time. Not for collectors. It's all about money for the corporations. They really truly don't care about gamers at all. Anyways, you said a lot of things I agree with and it's such a big subject, I can't write everything I think on a comment. Thank you for the video again.

    This shit bothers me a lot, since I’ve stopped being a physical collector, in order to have less and less STUFF around to think about. Turns out that I had to make a little compromise. So I’m purchasing physical copies of Switch EXCLUSIVES, and everything else in digital format, since it’s all also available on pc, which is and always will be the best platform for games preservation. I used to be a digital enthusiast until some of my favorite iOS games were pulled away from me forever, not even a slight chance to re-download them again via my account page on the App Store and that shit pissed me way too much. Anyway, the worst of the worst is still the subscription bullshit and consumers are so dumb to be even happy to pay for it…and that’s very concerning.

    That Devolver comment about scalpers is so knowingly disgusting. One real odd physical game I have is Blaster Master Trilogy. Has voiced audio, take out cart and play same version update of the digital first game, no more voices. Very odd, maybe other games do that too. Having physical I still just wish features like that were for everyone, don't need more splits in content

      I looked it up here, that Blaster Master Trilogy is a great physical version, wish I had it. I remember it vaguely, should have paid more attention when they released it. Crazy that the versions are different including big things like voice over, thats wild! Another viewer also pointed out something simmilar: Sonic Mania comes with a piracy protection that makes the game slower to load, which they were only able to fix in the digital version. So physical versions of that game are slower forever. Thanks for watching Mark!

    Ah yes, the classic Physical v. Digital debate. I’m fine with both, but I definitely prefer physical. Considering my two main systems are Switch and 3DS at the moment, I’m glad I have never had to deal with the “game is on a disc but not really” issue (although that sucks that others do).
    I’d say that my biggest issue with collecting physically, especially for the Switch, is in getting the physical games that aren’t sold in regular stores, but on websites instead. There are quite a few different websites that sell physical Switch games, and it seems that each of them offers different games, so you gotta shop at all of ‘em depending on the games you want. And then, if you’re unable to get the game in time or just don’t want to bother, you gotta go through finding it on eBay, probably for a higher price (because again, if it’s a niche game that wouldn’t be sold in most stores, your chances of finding the game out in the wild are extremely low).
    Despite all that, nothing beats having a shelf (or shelves 😅) of physical games, so I’m sticking with this as my preference 😁.

      for all that it matters, you can just buy a bunch of replica boxes from Aliexpress or Esty. then display the empty boxes with no actual game inside. makes no difference whatsoever. 90% of the time, physical cartridge owners aren't going to bother, getting up, walking over to the shelf, searching for X game, opening the box, taking it out, raging when it doesn't work, blowing on the cart, trying again, doesn't work, get the alcohol and cotton swabs out, deep cleaning the cart pins, finally works, but the internal battery has died so it won't save, taking it apart, get out the soldering iron and solder in a new battery. its absurd. it's not even old games either that have huge problems. 3DS carts regularly refuse to read, and because 3DS has those pin protectors, you either have to cut them off, or cut an eraser in a V shape and wedge the eraser slice in between to clean the pins so the dang thing with work. Then there's updates. Persona Q2 on 3DS i think has a game breaking bug on the cartridge, that's only fixed by buying the digital version. games like Fantasy Life 3DS have a huge chunk of the game content locked behind paid DLC. Fire Emblem Birthright/Conquest is another one. the only complete cartridge is a limited edition version that's worth $400 on eBay. it's ludicrous not to simply buy all 3 chapters digitally for a fraction of the price.

      Hi Nunya baznus! I agree there about the older cartridge systems, specially because of the internal battery. I still have my old cartridges from back in the day, but I do not collect them any further. Yea I hear you about the issue with cleaning these new tiny carts. I have one DS game, Kirby Canvas Curse, that I bought used and it was filthy. It was a pain to get it to work, and still looks kind of dirty. But thats the only one. I think if you store them correctly and take good care of them when using, thats a totally avoidable issue. They are expensive, and yu may need to grind for cash, but they are worth it. You can get the same 2 powerups using the code in the crystal ball of the manual. 3) when he starts spamming dialogue boxes there is kind of a pattern that can be avoided by moving Counterclock-wise starting from the bottom of the screen right in the middle. You stay there and start moving right as the demon approaches bouncing, when he gets too close and you are in the far right corner in the bottom, move up fast then left, this gives you a better chance of surviving. Yeah, it's a double edged sword, right? On one hand stores like limited run can't produce large quantities of one game, 1 because many of them are more niche games, and 2 because making too much of one would result in not making as many copies of other games. And I am all in favor of smaller devs having a chance to release their games phyisically, so thats great. But like you said, this is perfect market to explore FOMO, and companies are doing that even lying and hiding numbers of produced copies and information like if the same game is going to be made available in regular retail later, which is awful. Hey Dominic! Yeah, me too, I also have a 4TBs external dedicated to my PS4, and its almost full. My PS4 is a early edition one, so it has only 500GBs of internal storage which is almost nothing. That's a big reason for me to spread my digital games between as many consoles as I can, and like I said in the video, go for physical as much as possible. Thanks for watching dude!

    physical only is stupid. who wants to keep switching cartridges. just throw it up on the store and let consumers decide for themselves.

      Yeah, I agree that its weird and unecessary to make a physical only game. Im not against it, I rather like the idea, given that its made widely available, but agree that in todays world people should have the option of chosing digital or physical.
