    I purchased my 2003 SL500 about 3 years ago and had no idea of several features you've introduced. Your video is very clear and so easy to understand. Thanks!

    Thank you very much for your nice review! I just bought a SL55 from 2003, and I'm not much of a car manual reader, so your video really helped me!

    Excellent review that only a daily driving owner can produce. One of my favorite deep convertible functions that speaks to Mercedes expertise and efforts in the R230 is the fact that all 8 interior compartments can be locked with the door to prevent access by thieves. Only THIS generation of SL is capable of full remote storage locking. The R231 has exposed door pockets.

      I didn’t know the door bins locked as well! 😂

    Awesome video Simon. Your cruise control stalk is different from mine on a US spec 2007 SL55. I can adjust speed by pushing up or down and I activate the system by pulling or pushing the stalk towards the dashboard.
    Also, I can open or close the trunk (boot) by the switch on the drivers door. Pull to open push to close.
    Finally, my cooled storage is the glovebox, not the center compartment. It works the same way you explained.

    Its a lot better than I had expected. Nice carbon fibre, and the classic red leather is stunning. The luggage belts are cool. Great review!

    Thank you for this video! I really like Mercedes' decision regarding seat control switch location. I think active seat switch should also be located on the door or somewhere else.

    Good old Mercedes . Overengineered and magnificent! Many new cars don’t have these quirks ... and even if they do they are crappy and will break early ...

    Nice review! I learned a few things about mine. You should have shown the disappearing drink holders that pop out from under the COMMAND display. Seems you have one of yours blocked by the bluetooth. They are very handy!

      Aussie models only had the left one, the other is a blanking plate - go figure...!

    Tremendous detail - some might even say a bit too much - but I'd have liked to have seen or been told just how quickly the height adjustment on the suspension worked as that has a very significant impact on its usefulness!!

    • @a73capri
      @a73capri Před 3 lety

      I have a 2007 SL55 with the same suspension, the height adjustment is just about instantaneous. I would estimate the time all the way up or down about 10 seconds.

    Oh and btw.: 11:24 for what are these warmer/cooler buttons (red/blue) above the ventilation controls? why additional to the climate controls? my W220 from the same modeljear does not have such buttons. sadly it seems my ventilation controls aren't as much sophisticated either.

    Hi there, really enjoying your videos. I've just done almost exactly the same as you and upgraded from an SL500 to an SL55, in the same silver / berry-red colour. Mine is also the same model year, registered 1st Jan 2003, so it's interesting to look at the subtle differences. I see you don't have a button to make the mirrors fold in and out, and no button to switch off the interior motion sensor. There were standard in the UK. However I'm jealous as hell of your red wind-deflector! I saw half a dozen silver and red SL55s before buying mine but I have never ever seen that colour on the deflector! Hope you're enjoying the car as much as I am!

    • @mguytv
      @mguytv  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching - yes, loving the car! The folding mirrors were an option, like the Distronic cruise control, neither of which are on my car. Not sure if the red wind deflector was an original item, but I saw it on eBay and thought it would look good!

    Very beautiful car and nice review. but you should check your airbag because the SRS light was on while runnig the engine.

    • @mguytv
      @mguytv  Před 3 lety

      Thanks - I’ve checked the code and it’s a clockspring connection only, but you’re right to call it out.

  • @markchip1
    @markchip1 Před 3 lety

    The switchable kph/mph speedo seems like a great idea - until you realise that the last 1/3 of the mph scale is unused and that the range of common speeds is probably using just i/4 if the dial, so keeping an eye on not speeding at round town speeds becomes very awkward! Maybe less smart than you'd think??

    • @mguytv
      @mguytv  Před 3 lety

      That's true - the scale is compressed down to the left hand side, and given I'm in Australia, won't be taking it to any MPH countries!
