  • This is my custom UCS Minifig Scale Sandcrawler. This MOC was designed by CaveGod and the instructions are sold by Brickvault. Links to both below. While this build is magnificent in many ways, should you even build it?

    The reason there is stacked plates instead of brick is because the bricks were not available when i designed it. When you say they you mean me, also there are a lot of parts missing from the moc as the person who made the instructions messed up. The V2 sandcrawler will be refined from this version.

    It is easy to move on your own, remove the 2 side panels lift the top off the track section and then move the tracks to where you want them. The brown panels were plentiful when i built it 😂

    Just finished the Brick Vaults Tie Phantom and had similar issues with the parts. The build itself is amazing and a great moc but going through the parts list there were a number of parts (esp tiles and clips) that used discontinued parts that are hard to find on bricklink and are not materially different from the common replacements. Once they were weeded out and replaced with current versions, was much easier to source from fewer stores for considerably less.

By this i mean the mould king instruction manual that comes in the set. did u have to purchase brick vaults instructional manual separately? is that true, or is the instruction manual correct just a bit tedious to understand.

    I don't know what you're talking about with the reddish brown panel. The part really isn't that rare. I just went on BrickLink, and there were multiple listings of the part in bulk, and they were brand new too. I know you mentioned the market supply changed, but that's still a pretty big difference.
    I'm pretty sure the designers at Brick Vault accounted for how ambitious their Sand Crawler MOC was. Like you said, the damn thing costs an arm and a leg if your using official parts. Very few people are gonna try and build it, and the market changes frequently enough that this likely wouldn't be an issue.
    Also, if I'm being honest, this video does little to sell me on 3rd party bricks. Maybe it was the way you assembled it or how Mould Kind changed the instructions, but I see a bunch of gaps, crooked bricks, and warped plate assembly on your build. I don't remember seeing that on the original MOC, so I don't think it was a matter of BrickVault's QC.
    I know 3rd party bricks are allegedly on par with Lego's QC, but I've always had my doubts about that, especially when it comes to large scale builds like the Sand Crawler. This video seems to confirm my suspicions, but I could be wrong.

    Ngl the second I saw the white on the crockpit I thought it was supposed to be droid parts or something, really bizarre choice. I would have mixed in tan to represent the fact the white was dirty personally.
    Also did you do something to change the audio? At the start it sounded a bit deeper and slightly muffled but later on it sounded pretty normal so I'm not sure.

    Hey so I got the the play scale ghost (brick vault full interior one that is a bit smaller than the mini fig scale one) from my girl friend for Christmas! It’s a great set and I absolutely love the interior I did go through and put some printed LEGO parts and tec parts because the non-printed took away a lot of the look and some tec where a little loose. My question for you though is I noticed you had a fair amount of pieces on your build that are not “fully pressed together “ about half way through each bag I had to go through and repress down all the parts to stop the gaps from showing, did you notice that on your set? Does it bother you at all? Also do you notice that on your LEGO brand sets? Great video!!

    • @OntheBrick
      @OntheBrick  Před 2 lety +1

      I do notice it and it does bother me. Sometimes with sets like this it's because you're working with bigger areas. A small part of it is having carpal tunnel in my right hand and squeezing like that can start to hurt or be a bother after a while.

    Doesn't Moldking steal these designs? Even if you buy the instructions, its still supporting very shady practices. They also have all of Jeracs tie fighters but I don't think Brickvault or Jerac get anything out of it.

    • @OntheBrick
      @OntheBrick  Před 2 lety +23

      I've explained this in a full video of irs own, but think of it this way.
      If I buy the the instructions, $60 go to brickvault. If I then pay $1700 in real lego, $0 of that goes to Brickvault.
      If I buy the instructions, $60 go to Brickvault. If I buy the non lego version for $400, $0 go to Brickvault. Either way, they get the money they're owed.
      AND, I'm not drying up the market of extremely rare pieces despite BV saying they curate specifically for that. It's amazing the amount of mocs from them where that is blatantly false.

    • @dholden0075
      @dholden0075 Před 2 lety +13

      @@OntheBrick You buy the instructions as well, that's great... but most likely dont. Those designs are still stolen. How many of these bootleg kits do they sell where builders like Jerac (and Brickvault) get nothing. As far drying up the market that happens....parts come and go as parts are added by brickink sellers all the time. Many of these rare parts were around for a while until a moc comes along that all of a sudden makes a part high in demand (i.e purple helmet after the new CMF series) At least when you spend the money on brickink you are supporting legitimate Lego sellers and often small businesses that do that instead of Chinese knockoffs.

      @@dholden0075 would most average people realisticly spend the estimated 1700 dollars and go through the hassle of finding each and every part from bricklink sellers, when there is a cheaper version that fulfills the same display purpose? I think not, some people might really want the model and not be able to afford it. As much as I hate chinese knockoffs in the case of some large display models I can understand why some people take the route of buying from other sellers who have questionable business practices.

    with the use of unnecessary bricks its made it way to heavy which not only warps and stresses the bricks but could even break them
    it could be atleast if not more 2kg lighter allowing it to move with the motors better
    a 1x2 plate is 0.36g three of those is 1.08g and a brick is 0.83g
    not only that is the internal detailing is nice but unnecessary adding way to much weight to it
