  • Yeah, there are lots of ways to approach the Mini Chinese Fuseki. I don't think this should be one of them

    I'm at 16ish minute and can't help but ask: doesn't White J14 actually cut that thin not-really-a-bamboo connection and secure quite a bit of territory for white?

    was there maybe a way for white to cut off blacks center group at around K13/J14?

    • @nikipichler2607
      @nikipichler2607 Před 4 lety +2

      I was also wondering if j14 straight cuts? looks like the vital point of the connection with white being strong on both sides. But it would still be a long won game for black.

    Imo the low approach to the Chinese is fine... so long as after you get kicked and extend up, you follow up with a two space extension, attaching to the opponent's stone. Squeezing out that little bit of extra space helps you settle in your opponent's area. There's still some potential for fights, but I don't think there's anything greedy or unreasonably complicated about it, so it doesn't seem comparable to the "take all the corners and live in the middle" strategy.. I'm only a kyu but I think that's backed up by bots and pros. I think Bats is just being an old man lol 😝

    • @dwyrin
      @dwyrin  Před 4 lety +2

      Approaching low gives you less space to live with compared to other variations while not giving any less aji for your opponent to use to attack you. Better to give yourself more to work with instead of less.

      @jokimball7171 Před 4 lety +1

      @@dwyrin It seems like it's harder to get a base with the high approach tho, can you really get more room that way? Ofc you can always approach from the other side, but sometimes the corner is more important.

    why are you avoiding the player who instantly connects? Distaste or because it doesn't work for back to basics?

      Some people just dont give up, but thats fine! Shows how NOT to throw a game. And we can all use more reminders of that. At least, i know i can.

      @@dwyrin Since this ksusey just played a game against KoSueMe, they must realize they're _not_ facing a 1k player, and treat this as a free teaching game, so it makes sense to play it to the end looking for more teaching moments.

  • @hippophile
    @hippophile Před 4 lety +1

    Low approach is playable but continuations are difficult - high level - the play AFTER the approach is wrong. P4 should be at Q5. It's complicated...

    • @dwyrin
      @dwyrin  Před 4 lety +1

      Even when they play Q5 the fight is easier for black than white. Much easier to just not approach low.

      probably wouldn't make for a good video. an opponent that aggressive wouldn't be very instructive, never mind that fact that attaching as your second move as b is insane
