I get this ethnic pride coming especially from Europeans. There is a tendency to equate nationality with ethnicity since in Europe most countries derived their names from some sort of ethnic group or cultural group. The Danes, the Irish, the English. But you know if you delve deeper maybe the name of the groups that originally made up Ireland wasnt even Irish. I would need to do more research. But at any rate, we have a country or nation-state now called Ireland. The argument Europeans seem to be making is that foreigners are not Irish even after they become citizens. I guess that would be fine in so far as Irish is being equated or reduce to a label for a particular ethnic group or culture. Also, in so far as being Irish in the state of Ireland does not confer any unfair advantage against other citizens. From that standpoint, I think they will understand it if you just said, Ms. Adeleke is a citizen of Ireland. @wayhep31

I seem to recall the Irish being referred to as mongrels etc. by the English. My grandmother said she recalled being told when trying to rent a house in England in the 50s that they wanted "No blacks, no dogs and no Irish". This is a sentiment that started centuries ago. Imagine the audacity of a people who were treated this terribly, and also whose forefathers were sent to the Caribbean as indentured servants which was very similar to slavery, treating others with bigotry. How quickly they forget......

My friends. To the Irish, being Irish is an ethnic identity, not a national identity alone. i would completely understand that if i was her. In Africa we have ethnic identities...for example I am from Zimbabwe and my identity is that i am from the Shona tribe, and from the Shava clan. A white Zimbabwean, born in Zimbabwe cannot be a Shava because ethnicity is tied directly to ancestry. Not to nationality. The Irish have a proud ethnic history. Its not a sin for them to be proud of their ancestry if we are allowed to be proud of ours. We stand proud of our black identity then get triggered the moment white folks are proud of theirs. The Irish were not our colonizers...they themselves have been colonized by the house of Windsor.

Have you even the slightest knowledge of Irish history, or the psychology of a people who were oppressed by an outsider because of who they are? They calcify around their shared history, their unique cultural identity and to them, the pain of their past, the blood of their ancestors that paid the ultimate price trying to shake of English domination means to them to be IRISH is more than about being born within certain borders. As a black man i may have been born in China(many blacks are) but you'd be hard pressed to find a person of another race represent China on the world stage. Nor will you find a non-Indian do the same for India. Nor a citizen of Russia but a member of another race represent Russia on the world stage. The United Kingdom can have different races representing them because they conquered and colonized different racial groups and made them part of their commonwealth. The Irish in particular did not participate in the colonial project so their identity is deeply rooted. Its not always about race. Sometimes its about ethnicity and i hope you know the difference betweeen the two.

White people were of no notable number until the latter half of the 18th century; they were picked up off the streets of Dublin and other Irish towns and both sold and indentured into slavery from the age of three -years on up. The younger you were, the longer your service as a slave in America. Some never got out of it.
You should check and see what forefathers such as Washington, Franklin, and Henry thought of these people; and the names that they ascribed to them, e.g.: outerscour, white trash. There are several more.

You've got to choose between racism while achieving your dreams in a forign country or being unable to achieve your dreams in your home country that supposedly loves you

She is insulting us and most don't see it. She doesn't care about Africa nor being considered Nigerian. She is made that she is seen as a Black person living a white society when in fact her parents is seen as a honorary white immigrants. She is actually made about being seen as a "Black" person that she thinks is beneath her. She is not fighting for justice and equality as a black person, but rather not to be seen as a black person, but rather seen as a honorary white in a white society. Her pleas are vain and soon will fall upon deaf ears!!

It is time for us to be a hedge of protection around our children, youth and our community as a whole. We must have gated communities.

Our Miss Universe Philippines 2024 is African American and Filipina but she was chosen by the judges. She will represent our country in Mexico in September. We don't have that much black Filipinas but they're represented. Respect their ability to compete and win Chelsea Manalo is our Queen and Filipina.❤

Yeah, but that's still half Filipina. This young lady wasn't half Irish or even Jamaican or Carribbean.
