  • In this video, we will have a look at creating brushes using Affinity Photo. During the video i will explain the major differences between an image brush and an intensity brush.
    Creating a brush is nice to know, but we also need to use them somehow. I'll demonstrate one easy usage of custom brushes, which creates very interesting results.
    Thanks for watching. If you liked this video, don't forget to hit the like button and subscribe.

    I found yours by accident. I will stay longer. I watched two of your videos and I think you translate best on youtube. Your voice reminds me of that from elementary school when the English-speaking lady played British conversations on the radio: D you have a very good diction!
    will you also record iPad tutorials?

      Thank you very much! I do have a couple of iPad tutorials, here is the playlist:

      I don't post that much iPad videos, but you can let me know in the comments of a video if you would like to see an iPad version of the video.

    Thanks G. Awesome as always. I find your instruction in this video is at a slightly more relaxed pace. That works well for me. I don't know how I missed this one a year ago, I've been a subscriber and watching your videos for longer than that. Glad I found it though. Very creative.

      Thank you for sharing. I am trying really hard :) to slow down the pace and hopefully the newer videos are easier to follow.

    That was a lot of fun. You did custom brushes and masks in one tutorial.

    This tutorial reminds me of one the pet peeves I have with the Affinity software: whenever one create a new item of any kind (brush, category, channel, etc.) it's always a two step process (i.e., create the item, then go back and rename the item).
    I wish Serif would change this UX so that any command to create a new item would automatically throw up a dialog box that enables the user to create the new item and name it in one fluid motion.

      :) Indeed, it would make more sense when creating something, to immediately ask for a name (and have default text prefilled)

    Strange, but when one makes a selection from a mask, and then chooses the "New Brush From Selection" command, one gets the equivalent of an Intensity Brush, but the default label for the new brush is "Image Brush".

    • @Graphicalfinity
      @Graphicalfinity  Před 2 lety

      I think it makes sense. A mask only contains black and white (or visible not visible) which fits with an intensity brush (=a brush stroke based on the opacity values of a raster image). Image brush (=a brush stroke based on the color values of a raster image) uses colors and a mask does not have colors..

    • @markoehlschlager3862
      @markoehlschlager3862 Před 2 lety

      @@Graphicalfinity Well, I understand the argument you make for why a mask selection becomes an Intensity brush, but my puzzlement comes when the default label reads "image brush".
      BTW, if one can create an image brush from a pixel selection, why can't one create an intensity brush from a pixel selection? Instead, one must first export pixel art and then reimport it as an intensity brush. This seems like an oversight on the part of Serif.

    Very entertaining tutorial, as always! And every time I learn something new - sometimes just "between the lines" ... Great work. This is how tutorials should be.
    As a side note: Your calming voice is like that of the *"Lockpicking Lawyer"* (czcams.com/video/XbrUq3adFDQ/video.html) - increases attention and concentration. And then when you know everything, you can watch the tutorial on calming down and falling asleep a fifth time ...

    It's a really nice video. It would have been seven better if you had spent all that time you were talking about the wrong way to do it on talking about the correct way in far more detail. The actual, important steps for creating an "intensity brush" only makes up about 1% of the video. The rest is about "how to do it wrong" and "cool things to do with a mask." Not exactly what you stated in the title of the video.

      Thank you very much for your feedback, really appreciated. In future videos, i'll try to keep in mind to focus mainly on the active method as you suggested.
