    I’ve started hoarding the casitas ever since it came to light that they’d be discontinued in favor of the slx.
    For its price, nothing I’ve thrown has been better. I have a feeling they’re gonna go down as being one of the better $100 offerings in history.

    Thanks for the info. I recently bought a Lews tournament, Daiwa R type, and a shimano Casitas (based on your and many others reviews) and have found that casting with the casitas is ridiculously easy! I'm very happy with its comfort level and it just doesn't seem punitive like the other two. I will say I haven't spent much time with them more than about 3 days, but overall it was easily a clear winner to the Casitas. And to be honest I really only had a couple backlashes, compared to many with the others. I will be buying more!

      yeah, shimano's only use 2, a few other brands have 3 on the spool. For line coming in, it's nice to have a few other bearings in key places like on the knobs and a having fully bearing supported drive shaft. If you have a synchronized worm gear, it's good to have bearings on that as well.

  • @logicalrationalfishing7481

    Hagane is a rigidity concept, aluminum is all it is most of the time. In Shimano spinning reels it is Hagane concept gear. X-Ship is a dual supported pinion and only a few other companies truly use that. Daiwa reels with "free floating spools" have dual supported pinions, but that's about it.

      I can't say much about the Daiwa, but I can say with 100% confidence that I would stay away from the Revo X. I had one for a short time and didn't enjoy it at all. The casitas is a great reel, and I truly believe that it's the best on the market for $100, but I have yet to try the Tatula CT out.

    • @breakfix9528
      @breakfix9528 Před 6 lety +1

      Skip the Abu.
      The Tatula CT and Casitas are both great reels to choose from and would be my choice in this price range.
      Having both here are my thoughts.
      Tatula: Aluminum frame - Magnetic brakes - longer handle - smooth - reliable
      Casitas: Composite frame - centrifugal brakes with fine adjustment - light weight - smooth - reliable
      The Tatulas aluminum frame feels solid in the hand, the Casitas does not but its only feel they are both tough.
      The Casitas has fine brake adjustment the Tatula does not. I like being able to adjust the brakes in fine increments but I find I can adjust the spool tension on the Tatula to get the same effect.
      Both are smooth on the cast and retrieve, but in different ways. The Shimano has a 'feel' during the cast that I love. Very smooth and refined feeling. The Shimano also has a 'feel' during retrieve that is nice and smooth. The Tatula has almost no feel during the cast (magnetic brakes) and has no feel during retrieve which I love. I prefer the feel of the Casitas on the cast and the feel of the Tatula during retrieve.
      I prefer the knobs, longer handle and cast thumb-bar on the Tatula much more.
      The Casitas can cast a little further (not much) but the Tatula is more stable with less overruns in my experience.
      The Casitas is lighter weight. Some rods balance better with a heavier reel but I prefer the lighter weight for all day casting.
      Both are great reels and its personal preference which you would like more.
      I have fished both for over a year and still cant decide which I like more, though I would have to side with the Tatula for the way it feels in my hand and the control on the cast.
      Diawa gives you more for the money IMO.
      Either way you cant go wrong.
      There are good deals on ebay.
      If you need a rod check out the Cabelas Tournament ZX rods on sale now for $80. Best rod under $150 IMO.

      I have noticed that my curado70 feeks a little more solid in my hand than my casitas. Having said that, the casitas feels extremely light weight and almost hollow, which in a weird way increases sensitivity. So yeah...the graphite is definitely a different feel, but it definitely doesn't feel like it is lacking structural integrity. I still think that of the above reels, the casitas is the best bang for your buck. Graphite has come a long way.

    If you're talking "for the money" i think that reel lineup is skipping the price point model that would take it. ..the Citica.

    • @drumandball
      @drumandball  Před 6 lety

      You may be onto something. But I don't own a Citica and I've never fished one before, so I could only really give my opinion on these reels. I've seen citicas on ebay brand spankin' new for $80 lately! Crazy!

      @joey1142 Před 6 lety

      the citica is identical to the curado i, except it lacks a low gear ratio option and the bearings are slightly lower quality, if you dont need a cranking ratio get the citica purge and re oil the bearings, now you have a reel that performs identical to the curado i

      @drumandball  Před 5 lety

      Yeah, there is a great video of a guy taking apart and putting back together a curado i. Smart to take them apart and clean them thoroughly. They're fairly easy to work on.

    • @jasonrobbins7079
      @jasonrobbins7079 Před 4 lety

      I had about 5 curados that I fished fresh water and salt water for 10-12 years I would just rinse and dry, no service no oil nothing. I know it’s not the best way but the older green curados were the shit, these new ones I am not crazy about, got one yesterday I am taking back and getting the diawa tatula 150. I have my sons fishing Lews and those things are amazing I have been fishing Shimano since a kid but this dude is trippin. You can buy 3 lews for what one Shimano cost and my 10, 7 year old sons beat the crap out of them and catch big fish. I am switching over to Lews when it’s time. Way more bang for the buck.

      Lews are good, but I prefer Shimano by far. This is mainly because i feel like Shimano's casting ability is more effortless, and their reels fit more comfortably in my hand.

    abu is awful, but lews and shimano reels are equal

    • @drumandball
      @drumandball  Před 6 lety

      I don't think anyone can really quantify the quality of a reel, as most of it is opinion-based. But to me, shimano reels cast the furthest for their price points, and they definitely feel the most comfortable in my hand. I do like Lew's a lot, though.

    • @littlegoobie
      @littlegoobie Před 6 lety +1

      I'm pretty sure abu's low profile and some of Lews are made by the same people, possibly an OEM manuf. I finally bought 2 Lews this past summer after putting it off for years because they're basically an unknown. The first thing i do is take things apart and there are FAR too many identical, unique/unusual constructions inside to be a coincidence. ..remember i said unique.
