    Straight up, I grew up with my Mother and Father and I watched Good Times on Prime time TV. John Amos was as close to my Dad as any person in my life. He had a proud side, rageful, understanding, kind, loving. I would call him my surrogate Father as he always tried to be the best that he could be for his family. Working great 2-3 jobs and never quite making it. But they always had love. 💗

    One of the saddest days of my life as a child happened when I realized John aka James wouldn't be returning to the show, I was depressed for months, he represented & portrayed the men in our families accurately. There was nothing more powerful then hearing "wait until your father or grandfather comes home," which meant it was time for the belt rodeo lol, but it kept us in line, alive and out of trouble.

      I feel like a sequel shouldn't be made. 'Coming to America' is such a timeless film that doesn't need a sequel. This is just a cash grab by Hollywood. As u said if the originals are in it then it won't fail and it'll probably be a box office success but one thing I know for sure is that it will not have lightning in a bottle that the 1998 classic had. I just don't what them to ruin the legacy of such a timeless film that people will talk about in 100 years time.

    John Amos was one of my favorite actors growing up. The very first time I saw him as the father on GOOD TIMES, I knew he had to be from the BRICKS. There was such a connection I felt. Sometime later, I discovered he was born in Newark. There was a lot of strong image dad's like James Evans (John's character) in my Hood in the 70's... Grafton Ave. PJ's. Keep that POSITIVE STRONG BLACK IMAGE UP, Mr.John Amos. We Love You. One!

      John Amos made a strong black father figure as James Evans that any black child could look up too...however! IMO the reason that topic was not pursued,Heather B caught him in a lie sort of,he said their were no black writers,the white writers didn't understand black culture,blah blah blah,other sources say it was because Jimmy Walker had become the focal point of the show and....their....was...some jealousy between them,notice how at the end he said they were "close" but not as "close" as portrayed on the show,wink wink and about working with great comedians and didn't call Jimmy walker's name,he also gave clues to this (assumption) by saying the writers and producers considered him disruptive...kinda like Steve Urkel on Family Matters unintentional stealing the limelight...R.I.P Michael Evans(The OG Lionel Jefferson)

    • @DackupDoo
      @DackupDoo Před 6 lety +1

      adrian72300 Hard to disagree with this comment, and I did feel a little ashamed for Amos when he was called on that by Heather B. It was known that both Amos and co-star Esther Rolle weren’t happy that Jimmie Walker became the focal point of the show, but indeed they especially weren’t happy with the buffoonery and stereotyping of Walker’s character.

    • @adrian72300
      @adrian72300 Před 6 lety +2

      Thanks...IMO the character JJ Evans is misunderstood because of lol as you stated the buffoonery,but take a different perspective if you will,JJ was a talented artist,self-confident,family first person who sacrificed whenever needed for his family,respected his parents,in other words JJ had great character,and if you were to tell him this he would pause,look at you and say I knooooooow...peace.
