I have a set of D404's on a Kawasaki Voyager 1200. About 6500 kms (4062 miles) and they are pretty much at the tread wear indicators. I'm going to try a set of Pirelli MT66 next, hoping to double that mileage. Lol, can't afford new tires every 7000 km's.
Dunlop D404 tires aren't meant for Harley's due to their weight rating as far as I understand: Note: The D404 is not meant to be used on Harley-Davidson motorcycles due to the tires' lower load capacity ratings. Please see the Dunlop Harley-Davidson D402/401 series tires for increased load capacity....or the D407/D408 for the touring models.
I and others mounted these on Harley’s and paid the price with poor performance combined with a waste of mounting labor. Your application was correct and you got good results. Yeah! Glad you applied usage correctly.
I saw you have an HD. D404 are not for Harley’s. I bought a close out tire and wasted my money on a deal without checking figment. Worst season ever. D404’s are for metric cruisers and I am sure they handle like crap on them, too. Stick with D401 tires or the American Elites…they are proven on the road for heavy bikes.
D404 are my least favorite. But, Dunlop does make some great hi-end tires. Most brands do. It's kinda like bread, you can get it for $1 a loaf or $4 , you get what you pay for. Your tire pressure is the most important task as rider maintenance. Get a good gauge and pay attention closely.

Jesus saved me !!!
Try to buy cheap crap like the D404 and that is what you. I’ve used nothing but Dunlop Elites on my Harley’s and had great results.
