- In late 2022, the FCC imposed changes to the Emergency Alert System. These changes revamped the system and its most prioritized alert, the Emergency Action Notification. The updates rename the alert to "National Emergency Message" and change the originator codes. The Primary Entry Point is replaced with "National Public Warning System" and the originator on the top scroll is replaced with "United States Government"

The change in policy is something I will need to take into account for future scenarios that I can't just handwave away with, "This takes place in a timeline where the point of divergence is before this change."

In all seriousness though, the Emergency Action Notification had a good run, even though thankfully it was never used in real life asides from testing and in fictional EAS scenarios. Let's hope we never get to see the National Emergency Message for reals and only in scenarios.

EDIT OF JUNE 2023: Man, I had to comeback after a prediction of the next pandemic of 2025 by Johns Hopkins University and Bill Gates, the same group who predicted COVID-19, and the details of a SARS like virus, with the youth as the main target. I would assume an actual emergency like this video would pop up on TVs/radios in that case. Pray to God we do not come to another pandemic, if we do, just know that we just went through one and we can't let arrogance get the best of humanity.

cuz earlier today, the 2023 National Periodic Test still said Primary Entry Point System.
This was a predicted interpretation. I was likely just wrong. The alert names have changed for sure, but the originators might not have been.

National Emergency Messages will only be activated if an event that were to affect the entire U.S. occurred (ex. Invasion from another country)
for national tests, there's a separate code for that and it's called National Periodic Test (NPT)
This alert was never used in real life. Though there was a couple of false alarms, if you look on the Wiki. Besides the 2011 National Test, in which it was issued under the “Emergency Action Notification” code, no EAN messages were ever issued and used for an actual emergency.

Wait! What about the emergency action termination? Is the national emergency message is also the code to the emergency action termination?
the Emergency Action Termination has been unused in 2012 since EANs (or National Emergency Messages) can terminate itself through the purge time (All alerts have purge times, hence no real alerts throw a "until further notice" note) so there isn't really any need to change EATs.
Emergency Action Termination has been discontinued since 2012.
