Baby Seal Relaxes with Rescuers

- Naude, Antoine and Denzil from Ocean Conservation Namibia were out on patrol at Pelican Point, when they saw a young Cape Fur Seal pup with a big ball of thick fishing line on his back. After a quick discussion, it was decided that Naude would go for this pup by hand, while Denzil and Antoine would look for other potentially entangled animals in the rest of the group of a few thousand seals.
Naude ran in and grabbed the line trailing the pup - the line was low on his body so there was no chance of hurting the animal. The pup was very aggressive and kept snapping at the rescuer. Naude was bitten quite badly by a seal just over a week ago, and this was his first rescue since then, so he was a bit apprehensive to say the least! Denzil came with the net to restrain the animal and Naude managed to get a good grip on him.
As soon as he started cutting the lines the pup totally relaxed, and amazingly, once cut free, did not run away. 99% of the time the seal pups run straight for the water after being freed, but this little guy just sat there, staring at his rescuers, making no attempt to run to the water. 🦭

Why do you only put an smile 🙂 when you reply to someone?
@@jamtheturtle9287 cuz they're too busy rescuing seals!
PureNeptune Ok
Lmao this comment xD
Rescuers: "It's ok, buddy. You can go now."
Baby seal: "Yes. But first I need a good look at your faces. I'll be giving all of you a good Yelp review."
🙂
@Voltaic Fire kelp
But nothing good comes from Yelp
It’s called the yelper special. Hey! What’s that on your pretzel?
Seals don’t have access to Yelp. That comment makes no sense.
"You can go now". The seal is like: "Pardon me, good sir, but this is MY living room, so perhaps YOU could go now?"
Hahaha, nice sense of humor
😀😀
lol

Imagine disliking the video of a guy rescuing a baby seal
Exactly what I was thinking. Trolls!
I was thinking the same as well, some mentalities are just weird 🤷♂️
The dislikes are coming from the sharks / orcas who now having harder time to eat their meal..
@@Sherif_Hamdy you never know why they dislike the video....their mentality is just fine

seal pup thoughts: Wait...the stories I heard are real?! The bizzare land seals who chase us down and help us!
Right like the old santa m&m commercial 😂😂 they are real....he is real lmfaooo
But the white seal pups chime in “hasn’t been our experience”.
Eric Paulsen why you gotta bring that bullshit over here? Feel some type of way?
Yeah I wonder if they eventually will start a religion
just dont got to canada as a seal .. xd
That pup was really thinking things over. So adorable
Right!?😆 😅
Looked like the seal pup was thinking “Wait.. you guys aren’t going to eat me?”
They like the plastic around their neck
@John DIas hahahah 😂
@John DIas Don't stereotype please.
It's a form of shock. Wild animals do this when they are certain of death. I think some people freeze too.
John DIas Love me some racist joke
He just looked at them like, WHY DIDN’T YOU JUST SAY YOU WANTED TO CUT THE FISHING LINE OFF ME?
Lmao
This pup understands that showing his back is dangerous. He showed the fangs to scare the "predators". Do not put human feelings on to a wild animal.
Muc SALTO 🙄
@@mucsalto8377 Right, that's why he was turning his back to escape the whole video until they had released him.
@@sdefuite5477 It's pronounced, "Orf, orf AAAArf, Orf, arf, orf!" Make sure you get the accent on that first Arf. Very important.
The seal pup was like: "If I run these dudes will chase me again! Better face them and scare them off with my big eyes and cute face."
Thank you, Naude, Antoine and Denzil for a very good rescue and release! Well done!!!
Hahaha! That’s right!
I think you nailed it. As soon as the rescuers moved away, he/she turned around and moved to the water real fast.
Yeah, pup acted the same way from the start - don't run, don't let them catch you. The difference was people behaviour, as they no more tried to catch him.
It must be wonderful to wake up and go to do a job saving wildlife. I am so glad the world has all of you. You are TRUE HEROS in this life.

Yeah he is one intelligent pup, maybe that's why he stayed after it was over.
@ikdks True, they might want to scare them away more actively so they keep being scared of humans. If only we could teach them to be scared of nets & hooks too :/
@@MrTomtomtest the pup only turned and ran after the majority of the humans turned their backs first and started walking away. That encounter unlikely affected their natural reaction to humans.

He was thinking WTF just happened. HOw do I feel so different. This is a strange experience. The pain is greatly lessened!
I always find it adorable to see an animals face when they realize humans are there to help them not harm them. It's something I'd like to see more often.
AWESOME interaction between rescuer’s and the seal!!! I think, the seal is simply trying to remember and register the faces of these wonderful people!!!
I can’t express how much I appreciate what these guys are doing. They are guardian angels
Just imagine the sheer relief he is experiencing. Must be a euphoric feeling after having lines cut into his body for who knows how long.
Absolutely!
Ok now what
The moment of realization that you're not a threat.... taking his time trying to figure it out lol. What a cutie. Glad your arm is feeling good enough to get back to this. 👍👍👍
What a cutie indeed!
It’s amazing and adorable how much the pup’s demeanor changes from before to after. I can only imagine how confused and in pain the pup must’ve felt before.
It is so sad to contemplate how much they are suffering..
I love no matter how many times you do this, every seal that stops to look back and hang out with you, you seem to cherish and enjoy every time, soaking it in, never taking it for granted. True animals lovers 💗
The seals probably don’t want to turn their backs as their fangs are their weapon but it wasn’t being too aggressive (at the end), just cautious
Notice how it waited until they left, it wanted to know they were far enough that they couldn’t ‘attack’ it again
*The pup must have felt very grateful to you guys and also relieved after being freed from that fishing line. Thanks for your hard work.👏🏻*
Our pleasure!
cubscursed hahahaha possible.😁
Seal after being rescued:
"I'm sorry that I was aggressive back there. I've had a very stressful day and I think we got off on the wrong foot. Anyway my name is Silver, whats yours?"
🙂
In addition to the rescues themselves, it must be quite rewarding when these gorgeous creatures pause before running off, as if they're saying "Thank you dear friend."💕🙏💕
He wasn't' thanking them, he was terrified to move. I get it, you want to feel thanked, but best to just walk away, so as to not prolong his fear, but I'm grateful for humans like this. Well done to all of you!
So before they cut the line, he wasn't terrified, but after the relief of having the line cut and not being slaughtered, he was suddenly too terrified to move?
@@jayphilipwilliams It was scared during the whole process.
It was facing them defensively since it could not outrun them.
That's a sign of a future alpha. The way he contemplates is amazing after being rescued.
Naude: Go little one, you are free!
Seal: I've seen loads of youtube animal vids, where are my snacks hooman?
Pup is like: "Am I dead? I feel lighter now.. Like there is no strings attached to me."
been binge-watching your videos since they first mysteriously appeared in my suggestions. This one will stay etched in my mind. The difference between the pup's behaviour before and after is unmistakeable. If ever an animal was consciously and demonstrably gracious and appreciative, it was this one. You are doing special work.
Me: Listening Queen.
Also me: See notification with "Seal Pup" in the title and stop all my activities.
Fantastic! Thank you
Someone admitting they stopped listening to Queen to watch a video says something awesome about that video.
:)
Freddie would be proud of you
It's always beautiful to see them trying to understand what happened
🙂
I think it was confused on why it wasnt immediately killed after being captured. I mean, imagine if you were chased down by a lion and instead of being mauled to death it just licked you and moved on. Would you not just be absolutely dumbfounded by that?
Jacob Salmi Definitely
I'm just glad these people are out here doing what they are doing.
The seal is trying to comprehend what just happen
Probably was thinking "well im not dead so this is probably a good thing"
abducted by aliens!
He's so cute! I could see his little brain working. As he's looking you in the eye. "Any of you move, you're sardines! Yea, you better back up!"
Hahaha!
I imagine he realised he was caught and after he was let go he sort of thought he was being held hostage as he was somewhat surrounded? He also faced his body towards you which is sort of a bluff, showing he'll fight instead of turning around which would make him vulnerable. He chose to wait while analysing his surroundings and once you backed off he took his chance.
Maybe.
Smart guy.
This is precisely what I thought
@@OceanConservationNamibia He was probably a bit in shock because he tought he was dead.
Rescuers: "Look at her chilling with us"
The seal not facing the ocean anymore: "I'll be damned, those hoomans stole the ocean!"
He looked at you all like "You will all be hearing from my lawyer soon,"
“WHAT? I do deserve a cuddle, RIGHT?“ :)
💚💛💙
I love the way after his is like oooohhhh that wanna help me.
It was very special. We don't get that often.
That ending was just plain beautiful. That little seal was amazed and just had to look at them and say thank you so much for saving me today. 😀♥️
This is the most heart-wrenching OCN video I've ever watched (of hundreds). Seeing the pain inflicted by our callous behavior with trash/fishing line on this normally stoic pup is ghastly. Your videos are sure to help countless people stop polluting our oceans. Thank you for saving this precious life, I hope he had a full recovery.
Yes. He is just chilling. Looking to make new friends!!😂
So cute.
arent we all..
@Viggen was
Just wanted a belly rub.
And now witness the little guy having an epiphany. Great work guys.
Thank you very much!
So happy that there are those who choose to rescue animals in dire straits. You are heroes, guys!! Such rewarding work. Many blessings!!
Feel like you can just see the gears turning in his little head, like "So wait, not only did you get rid of the weird stuff that's been bothering me for a couple of days, but now you aren't even actually gonna eat me?"
Beautifully smart creatures that they can start to realize that sort of thing.
Aaaaaw~ so cute
Right?!?
I always wonder, in the way they think, what are they thinking? "Enemy enemy enemy, I feel better, wait, I feel better, not enemy?" that's kind of how I imagine it going.
Rescues are definitely very confusing!
But it does not seem that they ever learn that they are not the enemy. Naudé and his team are doing it for a long time and still the seals run, but perhaps it is memories from the seal culling period still in their minds.
@@marieslabbert6009 or they have on going bad experiences with humans to...
My personal belief is that holding them or tackling them without biting or eating them creates some kind of odd sensation, perhaps juvenile playing.
Or enemies, enemies, healing and freedom, angels, angels. Let me stare a little so I can tell my buddies what they look like.
It's good that people continue helping the animals
Какой храбрый малыш. И любопытный. Спасибо, дядя Дензил, за твоё благородное дело.

You are healing gods of seals
My age is 12
Thank you so much :-)
@@OceanConservationNamibia your welcome
For the seal, it's fight or flight. He chose to flee. That didn't work, so he tried to fight. That didn't work either. So at this stage, he's ready to die. His instincts expect them to kill him and eat him. When that doesn't happen, no wonder he looks super confused. He just can't comprehend it. And he's too nervous to turn his back on them again. When they leave, he goes as fast as he can to the water.
Thanks Namibian rescuers, you guys are amazing.
you can actually see the point he realises they were helping him hahaa and he is like oooooow why didnt you just say so hahaha
Heheh.. Cute. He was complaining about treatment and wanting a back rub or at least a head rub.
😂
I have so much respect and admiration for these gentlemen. Really awesome work 👍
There isnt a word that describes the amount of work you guys do you save so much wildlife for generations to see Well done to you all and Thank you
I can only imagine how scared they all must be, but I'm sure it must feel pretty good knowing there's _someone_ out there that's on their side.
This must be the equivalent of alien abduction for seals. They have no idea why they were being chased and then to be suddenly let go must be very confusing for them. Hehe...
joycieket Yes, but instead of being anally probed and having implants put in, the seals come out of the experience feeling much better!
@@HalfShelli who knows, some people may be into that
I suggest you read the Budd Hopkins book "Missing Time" about alien abductions. Budd Hopkins was a practicing Doctor who studied the phenomenon and regressed abductees via hypnosis. Hollywood made a film about his life called "Intruders".
This video will be one of the "super famous and cute" videos on this channel
That would be awesome!
It will because of the interaction
This would be my dream job, saving animals!
I love when the babies stay at the end like saying thank you and feelling save with the rescuers 🥰🥰
That's class really shows thier intelligence, the ability to understand help from a different species

He was a very confident little fellow once you freed him. He clearly knew and appreciated what you did - 👍
"Oh, it's you guys! I've heard about you; big fan!"
In the beginning, he's like, "I KILL YOU!" by the end that turned into, 'Wait! Oh! Hello frens!"
That wee seal was so cute and so lucky to have been rescued 🏴
It just wasn't going to turn its back on the rescuers, in case they would attack.
Its weapons are its fangs.
Yep, you got it.... he was ready to attack, as well he should be. He isn't a house pet he's a wild animal.
@Asherah 1147 well animals aren't aliens ofcourse. The have a nervous system, especially mammals, that have similarities with ours. But the main thing is we're not able to ask them. Sure, we can tell when they are in pain. But we can't communicate vocally. So there's always an element of guessing involved.
There seem to be some animals that are able to show some level of gratitude, or appreciation after beïng helped/rescued. But those species are few and far in between.
Yes, its weapons are its fangs; but it wasn't baring them or barking/hissing anymore.
It wasn't "thanking" them, but it wasn't angry either. It was probably genuinely confused, though. Also, it was probably tired and took the chance to rest, since it likely didn't feel as directly threatened as it did at first.
@Asherah 1147 Boy you sure set things straight. I sure feel stupid for even considering that the animal might have felt some positive "emotions". Thanks for clearing things up.
I hope the guy who was bit survived lmao
@@Skoda130 Right

I just started watching your past videos! What a wonderful feeling that must be to rescue these precious animals. This baby was super thankful!!
Cool, best job in the world!
You know you earn his respect, when he sits back and chills after you rescued him.
Apart from actually saving these seals, the best part must be when there is some interaction between the rescuers and the rescued. The way the seal just sat there looking at you guys trying to puzzle out if it's ok to go now? That moment of realization when it knows that you're not a predator and it's not the prey.
🙂
I love how quickly you have videos up to watch! It feel like we are there in real time with you and I’m glad that your arm is healed enough for you to be back in the action.
Yay! Thank you very much!
Gotta give credit where credit is due: Naude's accuracy and quickness to pin the seals just behind their head is impressive. Guess the bite means he doesn't always get it right, but most videos show success. Impressive!
You guys are just amazing for all the tiny bits to huge efforts you put in..😊🙏🙏
And whom could blame you for being “a bit apprehensive” that was a serious chomp you took and still held on and took the line off.
Thank you very much!
