  • For 29 months Denis Tyrrel worked diligently searching for diamonds in Arkansas. His efforts paid off. During his stay Denis registered 486 diamond finds at Arkansas' Crater of Diamonds State Park. THIRTEEN of his diamonds weighed more than one carat each. They include a 3.48-carat champagne, brown diamond and a 4.42-carat white (clear) diamond. The total carat weight of all of his finds combined is 77.61 carats. Watch Denis demonstrate the method he used to find those diamonds.

omg, these were the days, when the holes were deep and the rules were not ...two crater legends here if I'm not mistaken the interviewer is Glen Worthington, a geologist and lifelong crater enthusiast not to mention author of the only published book on the subject.

Thank you for watching my videos and for your complimentary comment, Luke. Yes, Denis Tyrrel was a legend. In 29 months he registered 486 diamonds in his name (gave some away and lost some so probably over 550) He unearthed 13, carat-plus diamonds adding up to 77.61 total carats. As far as Glenn Worthington, that is me and I am flattered. I am not a geologist, though. I'm just a guy who studied the park's history so I'd know where was the best place to stick my shovel. Since I'd done the research I wrote the book.

Yes, no one can dig a real hole anymore with all of the park rules.

@@genuinediamondsinar3253 The park website states 33,000ish diamonds have been found in 50ish years. Pretty hard to believe he was that lucky that fast and wasn't "fudging" his numbers to "mine the miners" and sell his "expertise" in book form and possibly as a "diamond guide". That he supposedly gave away some portion of his "haul" would be a very convenient explanation for the "missing" diamonds between what he "registered" and what he could provide as proof of his prowess if his "legend" was questioned. Not to mention an "alibi" if - as one with a clue about public lands - one of the "rules" is "finders keepers" and profiting from a publicly-owned "precious stone" mine is less than legal and someone(s) noticed him living beyond his means as an "educator" only "working" 6 months a year - do the math on "school years" vs. "calendar years" especially in "secondary education" and suddenly teachers don't seem NEARLY so "underpaid" - and spending his "free time" out digging holes and playing in the "dirt" and "washing rocks" with an annual salary that is "public record" - and decided.the only way it all added up was if he had a "supplemental income" he.wasn't reporting to his favorite uncle and was maybe taking his classes on "field trips" and "giving" them the "opportunity" to learn geology and "diamond mining" via on the job training and making finding diamonds a "homework assignment" and/or "final exam" and grading it "pass-fail" so students had little choice but get a "summer job" as an unpaid "diamond miner" and have something for "show & tell" or else.
Those that can't...teach. A real expert geologist with that kind of nose for "precious gems" would be in very high demand and could go "diamond mining" for PROFIT AND FUN OVER "SUMMER BREAK" and in the process get "rich" and "famous" and still play "public servant" as a "prof" the other 6 months per "year".

@@deeremeyer1749 MOST of the diamonds found at the Crater are uncovered by people who know what they are doing and work HARD to find the diamonds. So far this year the majority of the diamonds found are by 3 men who worked together to dig deep holes and find diamonds. I know Denis' statistics are accurate. The only reason he made this video teaching his secret methods for finding diamonds at this public park is that he is a close friend of mine, I asked him for this interview, and he granted it as a favor to me. He made no money from spending his time doing this demonstration and even paid his own money to get into the park that day to show us how he has been so very successful finding diamonds. Everything presented in this video is accurate and true. I have another friend who is mining right now. He has found over 500 diamonds so far. He registered a 73-point white diamond find yesterday and a 4-point find the day before. Most tourists/visitors don't know what an uncut diamond looks like or how to find them so they go home without finding any. Experts who apply themselves like Denis and several others find most of the diamonds. Have you ever been to this park?

No one should call him lazy. He earned every diamond he found. I dug the gravel, carried it, washed it, and found diamonds. There's nothing easy about it. Thank you for watching my video and for commenting.
