I've lived in Thailand for near on 15 years and I've only ever taken the train from Taling Chan to Hua Hin once. All I could get was a third class ticket (my fault as I left it too late to book). Never again, it was the worst trip of my life. Wooden seats on a bone rattler. Shared the rail car with all sorts of chickens, dogs etc. I was so sore when I arrived in Hua Hin. In those days you could still get a beer to deaden the pain. I decided that my trip back to Bangkok was going to be by bus. Might be time to reavaluate since the dual ine is now open. If that person you recommended third class to had anywhere the trip I had I would have chased you to the end of the earth.
First reaction - "Great, a new STL vid, brilliant" Second reaction: "An hour?? Ahhhh, maybe we'll split this into two viewings". One hour later in a single sitting... "Wow, that was a great watch" :D - we loved and watched every minute! Thanks so much, STL for all the hard work and time on this very informative and detailed vid. Looking forward to doing this trip ourselves.
Bus to Survarnabhumi airport has the equivalent of business class seats and also a bathroom. There are about 10 a day. It took 3 hours when I did it. From there you can take the airport train to Phaya Thai BTS station, which is another 30 minutes. It cost 375 + 35 = 410 baht.

I watched the WHOLE vlog with a 10 min break to make an expresso. The highlight of the vlog WAS NOT mosquito bite leg 😂😂😂 but it was certainly memorable and you did show a non-steroid cream. I must say this vlog was a hard transition from the Indonesia series. I was going to complain…BUT…I did stay until the very, very end and saw the tribute to that wonderful trip. Thoroughly enjoyed the transportation comparison. I checked flight schedules and did not find flight options. THERE IS NO place like Thailand. I miss it so much. Caring for my aged mother and 2nd cousin in the states now but once my responsibilities concluded…I’LL BE BACK…as long as I out-live them. 🙏
Always look forward to the next STL vid, and this latest one does not disappoint. Enjoyed the long form format, and more immersive experience. Considering several spots south of Hua Hin-Sam Roy Yot and Prachuap Khiri Khan-as possible retirement spots, and planning an extended recon trip soon. Really insprired by your vids. I think the bus is faster (as of now) but I would still much prefer the train ride, so much more relaxing…..great video to help travelers decide between the two😃🇹🇭
39:58 .... exactly "the view I wanna see, you don't get these views on a bus or highway" ... plus the highways are quite dangerous. So many drivers drink or take amphetamine and love racing then. I prefer train by far as well. Thank you for your very nice videos !!!

Yes exactly each to their own , the concept that a video should be a certain length is somewhat limited in its outlook , some of us rely on lengthy videos to go to sleep or in preference to watching a 2 hour movie on mainstream channels etc, plus isn't it just as easy to stop it half way and come back another time and watch the rest ? Wow rocket science in motion!

As usual, a great video. Biggest problem with the train (my preferred option) is the schedule. The trains get in to Hau Hin too late for those wanting to check in at a reasonable time (say mid to late afternoon. Same for Bangkok/Hau Hin with only 1 leaving after 5 am and that one arrives at 7pm.

Honestly, I don't know if I'd prefer the train or the bus... Those trains, even the "new" ones look so outdated. But I guess if they purchased brand new ones like the ones from Bombardier or Siemens, it would cost way to much and they'd have to increase the fare price dramatically. In fact, I'd love a Don Mueang - Hua Hin plane. That would definitely be much much shorter!
Oh STL….I LOVE THIS!!! I feel like I’m there. Navigating public transit can be difficult for those not familiar so it’s great for you to share this. Of course I love the train and interaction with locals. You always do a fine job of showing the best of everything. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire 1 hour, 4 minutes and 1 second 🙂

Wow, reminds me of the best train ride I ever had in Sri Lanka, a day light ride from Colombo to the East Coast in 1977. 6 hours back then. Just traveling across bright green rice fields in a cho cho train, palm trees around the fields, ladies in their bright orange and hot purple sarees in those fields, a water buffalo, here and there. That felt like paradise. So utterly peaceful. As was the rest of the trip, since we managed to rent a bungalow in a nice private cove from the caretaker for 25% of owners listing price😎, like $ 10 a day for the three of us and he made us the most delicious fresh ground coconut banana pancakes every morning, We slept on futons on the floor, no 'comfort' whatsoever, but those 4 weeks were amongst my few three top vacations ever. Especially snorkeling for 4 weeks in our small private cove. Priceless nowadays.

I was filling up when the train was coming into Hua Hin..and when Tira Tiraa appeared and got pointed out ,I was screaming.Sorry for sounding so dramatic. 8 weeks till we arrive at our condo for our annual holiday.Away from rainy Manchester UK.Loved all the beach stuff in Indonesia,but Hua Hin looked fab.Thanks x

Mini bus takes ages as it stops to take parcels, packages and picking up people on the way going a short distance. The up coming fast train will do the journey in 2.5 hours.

I live north of Chiang Rai and major work has begun on a new rail line. The 323-kilometre-long railway is set to run through four provinces in the North of Thailand - Phrae, Lampang, Phayao and Chiang Rai - and will have 26 stations. Thailand's 'most romantic' railway through Chiang Rai to open in 2028.

First of all, I really enjoy to watch an entire video without skipping in any seconds. Really enjoy the ride.
Last time I ride our train was 30 years ago. Dang 3rd class from Petchburi to Nakhon Sri Thammarat took me a lot of time with bumpy wonky rail. 😂😂😂 Waiting our gov't to improve it for such a long long time. I'm glad we're focusing to improve rail system. It's not only dual track but also change the rail from 50 lbs to 100 lbs.
The main issues are social problems due to many illigal crossing points along the line + road in the urbarn area of each town. If the dual track project fully finished, we can shorten travel time from BKK to many parts of the country more efficient. People can travel by train instead of car.
Thanks :) I was amazed how much smoother the new dual track line is. No more bump n grind, way less noise too. Yes, the dual track once complete will make the journey all the way down South a real pleasure. Love your trains!

The station is iconic. They often stage magazine photo shoots there. .
Many years ago i travelled with my son from Bangkok to Hua Hin , when we arrived ( we were in the last carriage, happily talking and failed to see the lovely old buildings so missed our stop) ) . As soon as the train left the station i realised our error as i saw the red buildings passing by and asked a female attendant for help. The police who were on the train told us they would make an unscheduled stop to let us off .
They stopped around 20 miles south from Hua Hin at a village in the middle of nowhere, just the 2 of us got off the train to the amazement of the other travellers. . It was going dark , there were no hotels , no taxis .
We started to walk and thought it was going to be a night spent sleeping under the stars. After 35 minutes walking with our luggage a guy from the Thai Army stopped in his car and drove us to our destination back to Hua Hin. . What a gent. Great memories.

I took 3rd class from Hat Yai at 3pm to Bkk (arrived at 7am) last week. It was tough mostly to sleep, but beautiful in daylight.
Now that is a nice video. My vote is in for 1hr+ videos of beautiful Thailand.
As I said I was born in Bangkok and I did hear of The towns of Hua Hin never been there before. Until I fall in love with the towns after I have watched the videos

Absolutely loved the video. 😊 I was in Thailand for 3 months in 2019. April, May, and June. I spent my time in Hua Hin. Actually a few miles south. Kho Tao. It was the best times I ever had. I plan on going back as soon as I can. It's good to see the new train line working. It was being worked on when I was there. Thanks again for the video. 8~)))

Chansawang was always my go to beach restaurant when I lived there - very dog friendly / great staff -( and so easy to park the car )

@@biominerals wouldn't matter as my cam/phone has a builtin gimbal (only one like it;) plus Zeiss lens & F 1.5 which practically sees in the dark and all for half the price of an iPhone (which it beats the pants off imho). I do like my Macbook Air M1 for editing on the road tho, great machine and faster than M2 even.
40:51 The newer toilets on the train look exactly like the ones on the German trains. Just the bumgun is added.
I like the 3rd class because if you want to make a movie its the best option from my view.
But you only drive it ones 555.
Personally, I think it's good that the new train routes exist. The motorway may be faster but I still think that these highways in Thailand are just too uneven. It's a little bit like riding a roller coaster. I think bridges are really bad because you're catapulted out of your seat if the driver thinks he's Louis Hamilton :)

It felt like I was on a real road trip thanks to your amazeballs production AND the extra time. It was especially nice to see trains AND all the people in Hua Hin living their best lives regardless of dress...or lack of 🥲

I remember my first train ride in China, 2010, traveled from Hunan to Beijing, The friend i was traveling with booked us class 3, i wanted sleeper but there was a language barrier, If you got up from your very uncomfortable seat, it would be taken by someone that paid to stand only, then when you returned they would pretend to be sleeping LOL, It didn't take long until i got my seat back, Now there's more then 40000 km of high speed,
I’m glad I got to see the old Hua Hin station in action late last year when we did a weekend down at Sam Roi Yot. It was definitely an experience taking nearly 7 hours from Hua Hin to Bangkok by train 😂 and then to come in to Hua Lamphong station as well which I didn’t think I would get to do was another highlight.
When I heard about the new station, I too felt a bit sad having used the old one a few times a few years ago.

A fellow Canadian (but an American citizen for over 60 years 😅!!!) here near Boston, Ma. I really missed your content. I too have an affinity for trains and nostalgia. I thoroughly enjoyed video and I rarely find them boring. Glad that you are back and looking forward to future journeys/ endeavors. I hope to be an expat in Thailand within the next year or two. Finally a video, with a proper length . Should of been a bit longer.
I was in Hua Hin some years ago and while nice it felt too stretched out, everything felt kinda far away and the beach was a bit featureless when it more or less was just in a long straight line.The central parts around the large temples and the old city were really nice though.

1993 I used to drive Hua Hin 3 hours & Prachuap 5 hours from Thonburi. Very light traffic. 4 lanes.

Great video. I'm a big train fan and I always loved that from the train you see into the backyards and not the polished fronts of houses. The advantage of the new station is really that it is even level to enter into the train. That why it looks so long. The old trains have a speed limit of 120 km/h. For the shorter time they need the newer trains with speed limits of 160 km/h and higher.
