  • A quick local run of around 12 miles downwind. Keyhaven to Lepe.
    Impromptu roll performed due to eye off the ball briefly but a great rapid way tot he the Western Solent and a close up view through the middle of a yacht race.
    Captain Chris in the Pyranha Octane surf ski
    Me in the P&H Valkrie
    Filmed with the Insta360 X2 - before it died in Iceland!!!

    Fantastic - thank you for sharing… who has right of way with the sailing boats?

    • @GoneKayaking
      @GoneKayaking  Před 6 měsíci

      Haha.. you must get down here and give it a go.
      Who gives way is often a topic. Power (propelled by machinery) gives way to sail..
      I'm not a machine though so my rule of thumb is to stay out of the way. They're bigger than me and I often can't be sure I've been seen. Plus they're trying to make gains in a race while I'm just messing about.

      Yes - I wouldn’t be arguing with them… I just wondered if there was a rule. Although of course common sense would be like you say - just don’t get in the way…

    A piece of bungee cord for chin strap, keeps your hat in place.

      Aha.. good plan.
      I had a lanyard but it disappears over my back in a roll.. oops..

    Nice video:-) A quick question since I can’t find many other people who owns this kayak, so here goes. Do you think that the Valkyrie would be able to handle a (15-25 kg) load for touring?

    • @GoneKayaking
      @GoneKayaking  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hi mate,
      Thanks for that😜. I would think you can do that if you pack carefully and provided you are not built like Hercules. I have done plenty of overnight stops so not much kit but still around 10kg at a guess. It would happily carry more weight.
      The Valkyrie has a low profile section across the rear so limited space in the stern hatches which is probably the biggest constraint.
      The fwd hatch is narrower than many but also taller. You can hide a lot of kit in there.
      I hope that helps.

      @@GoneKayaking it sure does, thanks. I had a Taran 16 som 10 years ago and would like something similar. Also looking at the roomier Epic 18x Sport, but since i’m currently living in Solund on the Norwegian west coast, rocks and lots of waves, a plastic boat is probably the wisest choice. Thanks for answering.

      @@Uhmm485 wow.. Norway looks to offer some great paddles.
      I have not tried the Tarans but would like to.
      Chris in many of my videos has an Epic 18x. I think yes, more space but as you say, much more fragile for rocks and not very stable compared to the Valkyrie. The Epic is very comfortable upside down 👎 🙃... Haha

    Skudder?

    • @GoneKayaking
      @GoneKayaking  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Both the Valkyrie and the Octane have the overstern rudder fitted.
      Both boats are from the same bloodline so both can take an understern rudder. Captain Chris has one and will fit and test that on a future video.
      For downwind in deep water the understern would be better but for kayaking to and from different beaches and landing etc, the understern would be a hassle
