  • In this video I take a look at the Test Instrument Solutions TIS 859 voltage and continuity tester, which does so much more.
My first thoughts when I first held this voltage tester was that the picture did not do it justice.
It felt nice to hold and I was massively impressed with it’s functions, not only that you can plug it into a standard 4mm jack like you would have on your light adapters, socket adapters, and impressively your crocodile clips.
Watch the video and let me know your thoughts.

The bonus of being to fit the croc clips to the Fluke T5 is one of the reasons i like to use it. Even though it isnt compliant with gs38, its a good all round tester. This though would be my next choice though. In fact the new year im going to be kitting out a specific fault fining tool bag so this is a dead sure purchase.

      Nice 👌
I like the Fluke T5 because you can select voltage, or continuity, or current, as well as the open jaw clamp

Hi Adrian, I got one of these after seeing this video. Brilliant bit of kit.
Although The other week I was tracing a fault of open circuit on a ring r1. At board end to end just this i got continuity ring tone. Yet when i used my mft megger 1731 it was >999. Found fault in kitchen socket where conductors were in terminal but somehow one was just not touching to make connection. Re terminated and checked at board with megger and got reading... Bit my query is why the TIS picked up first and megger didn't, any ideas?
The fault was found by a eicr engineer on previous visit.
Ive always trust my TIS but how its thrown a little doubt on it.

Without being there it’s hard to say, but you may find that the Megger only tests up to 99.9 ohms on continuity, yet voltage indicators with continuity built in go up to 2000ohms.
It’s the only thing I can think of, either that or your fingers were touching the ends of the probes and the continuity was picked up through you.
      Try it on you TIS
