The director, Leandre-Alain Baker, said of Katoucha: "She could go right from laughter to anger. But she always came back, and I attribute that to her past, what she ... lived through.".. watch this NEXT “Waris Dirie the cruelty of FEMALE ClRCUMClSlON! The Desert Flower!”

Beverly Peele reminds me of Katoucha. 😊
She was just a stellar beauty. I’m sure she had CPTSD, and abusers know when someone has been through something traumatic just by looking at them. The stats are high for someone who was abused to be abused again. So very sad doesn’t really qualify how devastating this is.
why was she called Barbie of Somalia when she is Guinean.
Where is Karen Alexander?
So glad you made this video of Katoucha. I modeled with her for a season in Paris, we did the Jean Louis-Scherrer show together. We were represented by the same agency in Paris. Her daughter is absolutely stunning and is a fashion model today too.
Thank you for introducing this beautiful woman to those of us who never heard of her.
Well said🤎🖤
Agreed. I never heard of this model and successful woman. RIP angel
I know right 😭 ❤
Never heard of her either.
She was beautiful
I’ve noticed comments saying that she abandoned her daughter… before judging please keep in mind that She was a 17yr old who had been repeatedly abused in the absolute worst ways imaginable. She was also choosing to escape from the people who failed to protect her and aided in her abuse. She left her daughter with the father’s family. And was later deemed incapable of caring for her 3 children due to mental and/or substance abuse issues. It’s just my opinion but I think she actually did what she thought was best for her daughter at the time. Sometimes love requires you to do hard things because it’s just the right thing to do 🖤🤎🖤
I believe that she made the best decision for her child. Considering her mental health.
People are so quick to judge and i hate it. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors
I noticed the sadness in her eyes. Such a sad ending. No one ever knows what ppl r feeling. There’s a saying, “No one knows but he/she who feels it”.
Thank you for covering this. My family is Guinean, both of my parents born and raised there. We don’t have many superstars so I’ve always felt connected to her. The fashion world tried to hurry her name but alas she has prevailed through time and history. She was a strong woman who fought her way to the top. I always felt like her death was highly suspicious and an industry killing.
Absolutely!
Sometimes the designer’s clothes can be beautiful, but this lady made every outfit STUNNING! She was absolutely gorgeous!! RIP Katouscha
I LOVED Katoucha.. She was my friend.I met her when she was 19...we was in the same Model Agency...A very complex woman, very intelligent, bright, funny, genereous,, but some people tooke advantage of her kindness
She had some few real friends around, and we all tryed to protectet her.. very moody , could laught and Be Angry a Hour later......Miss her very much....she was nothing like a Barbie girl, but a real woman whith the sens of reality, loved her 3 kids,
and loved African food...loved to party... loved ART and Politique....We laught so much...I MISS HER.. last time I saw her we was in Martinique....The rest is history...que Dieu te garde KAT!!
This is so kind of u betty
Sounds like she didnt love that first one too much.
Not trying to hate, and this is beautifully written, but is it true she abandoned her daughter?
Bless you
Light of heaven to her. What tragic life and Death she had. God love her and her Beautiful children and Protect them. In Jesus name. Amen
I do remember coming across this vision of a black goddess in the fashion pages of Ebony magazine. Katoucha was definitely a force to be reckoned with at the time. So sad to hear of her demise ✨️🖤🤎 R I P Katoucha 🙏🏽🕊
Thank you for introducing us to Katoucha. She looked so beautiful and absolutely stunning. Such a queen 🤎🖤🤎🖤
Never heard of her but all I can say is: Stunning!!
.....you should watch videos of her WALKING....particularly for her BOO....YSL...she is one of the TECHNICALLY PERFECT runway models of all time....she is WITHOUT FLAW....
Your channel just found me and I’m excited to look at all your content!
🤎🖤
Never heard of her whilst she was living 🤦🏾♀️
I’m so sorry her life ended like this! But what an icon! I will continue to look her up. 🤎🖤🤎
Many glamorous lives have pain embedded in them too.
Unfortunately FGM is still an issue today🤦🏾♀️ and being done under cover in western countries including 🇬🇧 it’s still a taboo subject and it take’s GREAT courage to speak out!
May her gentle soul rest in peace 🙏🏾
Yes indeed. And I love the fact that her daughter Aiden picked up right behind her looking exactly like her twin on the runway. 🤎🖤
You summed it up PERFECTLY ! 💞🥰💞
Such sad news! I walked the runways with Katoucha many times. Her beauty and grace struck me every time we worked together. Rest In Power Princess...
Yea ok
Are you the former Elite Model Patty (Shanti )Owen?❤
she pass away many years ago.
@@MandyAliens It's true, she was a popular fashion model. She's not lying, look her up.
Her name is Shanti Patty 0wen. She was also an actress.
A brilliantly beautiful soul with such a heartbreaking story. Her life was cut short way too soon. Rest In Power, Katoucha and thank you Karine for turning us on to such an amazing icon of style and feminism.
Katoucha was a good and nice person. I met her 3 times at Paris in 2001 at night club. She came to talk with me. She was polite and humble. ..I met her again in 2005 in Sénégal... May his soul rest in peace. ..Repose en paix Katoucha Niane. Que Dieu te garde et t'accorde sa miséricorde. Amine
I was the one who ask for your review on katoucha she was my dearest friend we worked together for ages and I replaced her on France next top model. Thank you for sharing her story with your public on this platform ❤❤❤ actually on the catwalk she like black and brown but in real life she liked white
Sorry 😞 may she RIP 🙏🏻
Thank you for the request and my condolences for your loss ❤

Thank you for keeping her memory alive 🙏🤎🖤🤍

I’ve been admiring this woman’s face my entire life without knowing her story. We live in such a cruel world. Rest in peace Katoucha 💔
Naomi Campbell has a better face
🙄
@@feartheghostinme675 and they both have a better face than ur mom
@@feartheghostinme675 It's fine that you think so, but seems a little irrelevant to this person's comment about admiring her face for a long time. They're both gorgeous women.
Absolutely stunning and unique… she doesn’t look like the other boring models
Thank you for this beautiful movie about Katoush...
She was indeed a beautiful and mystical woman. She had this incredible deep voice and a Grace that was incomparable.
I was myself modeling years ago and I had the chance to meet her and spend time with her in Paris and in Senegal where I am from.
I also had the chance to walk the runaway in Senegal when she presented her collection as she was indeed also a fashion designer.
We miss you Katoush ❤
Didn't know who she was! Thank you Karine! ❤
Each photograph and outfit is more breathtaking than the last. Omg. ❤
Very mesmerizing
Oh WOWWWWW! She was BORN for the catwalk!!!!
May her soul rest in peace.
May her daughter be delivered from all family curses in the Name of Jesus 🙏🖤

🤎🖤 love and hugs to you all. Thank you for being the window through which we could glance at this beautiful soul’s journey.
It's amazing how her look changes and she looks like she's from several different countries. She was a captivating beauty. This was a great video. Thanks for sharing.
She was a underrated trailblazer and hero. She shined a spotlight on many critical issues for women and the African diaspora.
🤎🖤
She was a muse. That is all. She was a plaything. A body. Nothing to those that killed her. A super star used by demons and thrown out like garbage. She did nothing for Africa or Africans.
Think her children thought she was a hero? Just curious... 🤔
Why do so many celebrities die in water? Rather, it's in a tub, lake, river, ocean it's crazy!
Makes you wonder 😕
ILL....sacrifice.
@KarineAlourde I am sure it's more to the story why that is, but we will never know the truth. I love your videos. Keep up the good work.

May this beautiful sistah Rest Easy in Eternal Peace and Power!!🙏🏾🤎🖤
Such a sad end for a strong and beautiful woman who lived and survived such a lot of dreadful trauma
Naomi said Katoucha and Iman took her under their wings and helped her to become an icon!
She is the supermodel version of Angela Bassett
YES!!! I thought I was the only one who saw this about her! She truly was the *Supermodel* version of Angela Bassett. Im just so sad her life was full of psychological pain, and her death was so tragic. May she be surrounded by Angels in Heaven. 🙏
It's kinda funny how Naomi had black women take her under her wing & help elevate her, but she couldn't do the same for Tyra Banks. Tyra's now a known celebrity, but she's not STILL counted as a supermodel. She was intimidated by Naomi instead of nurtured..
❤️
@@silververnallbells191 People are not all the same in generosity unfortunately
@@silververnallbells191
It is not enough to be black.
You have to be excellent.
Tyra was NEVER supermodel material!
I am European we didn't even know (or care for) Tyra even when she occasionally walked for Chanel!
Now thats a face❤❤ rip man. Its literally always the unproblematic ppl that go way too soon. Meanwhile evil lives forever❤❤🙏🏿
Money. Money lives forever.
Evil never dies. It seems to live forever & multiply.😢
This woman lived a triumphant life!
In the times she happened to be born in , her effervescence was not destroyed but her mother's violence to her or any other thing for many years of her life.
The murderer who destroyed her is the tragedy .
May the generations of women in liberty be met with respect forever.
It is better to live free then to be a hostage to nonsense.
Praise strong independent women.
Stop injuring ,holding hostage ,harrassing ,murdering girls and women.
So, why are you here?
There's a lesson to be learned. Humanity is slow to understand.
Thank you for this video. I've never seen so many stunning photos of one woman before. Breathtakingly beautiful. May she Rest In Peace. 🧡🧡🙏🙏
I have always loved Katoucha. First saw her in an Escada ad. She taught Naomi Campbell how to remove her jacket on stage. She was very Paris based which is why you never saw a great deal of her in the USA. I wish her book was translated into English.
....Naomi has also said that she taught about how to walk a cape too...
She also worked a lot in Italy. (Ferre, Armani, Valentino, Genny, Versace, Laura Biagotti, Krizia, Ferragamo, etc.)
@@re7416 ....and more than a little in the USA....CALVIN....BILL BLASS....OSCAR....
She is breathtaking 😮 her look, her walk. I was trying to figure out who I see in her face and it's Angela Bassett. Thank you for highlighting her story 🙏🏾🤎🖤🤍
I thought the same thing.
Yes
Definitely Bassett for sure!!
So beautiful! Thankyou for sharing her story.🤎🖤
Katoucha 🙏🏾 lovely job as always Ms. Karine 🤎🖤🤎🖤
🤎🕯️🕊️🖤
Thank you for sharing this synopsis of Katoucha’s life. I had the privilege of doing her makeup backstage at shows and she was always so lovely but one sensed someone who was troubled. She was passionate about the causes she championed and therein lied her passion. YSL was like a father to her. She spoke about him as if he was family.
🤎🖤🤎😢
Thanks for sharing your experience with us ❤
That YSL was like family was comforting for me to hear. Everybody deserves to have someone who cares and guards them, buffering the difficulties of life.
wow xxoo
Thank you for this! ✨🤎✨
🤎🖤 Katouscha's face is familiar, but I did not know her name or her story. Thank you for telling us about her. The music and the fashion montages were stunning!
Her story is sad. She probably felt liken St. Laurant was the only one that truly saw her, knew her on a deeper level. Losing that is devastating in a particularly horrific way for some one with mental illness. The pain is too much for our brains to process. May she be at peace now. Stunning woman and I'm sad to say I had never heard of her but she looked familiar. I was born in 84. Thank you for sharing her story. ❤️
❤️🧡🖤

He was a pedophile with berger too
She was the definition of grace and class. She reminds me of SADE.
Ummmm 👀 they look nothing alike lol
Maybe more someone like Angela basset mixed with Naiomi Campbell with a slight grace Jones attitude just more feminine but as far as ethnicity wise features and looks she looks nothing like Sade.

I value and appreciate this vlog for bringing attention to talented women who have been lost ignored undervalued put upon and exploited and still rose up and defeated the odds. Katouscha had a sad and lonely end but overall succeeded at life. Thankyou Karin’s for your informative episodes.
I really appreciate learning about Katoucha. I had never heard of her. I love learning Black woman like my self. So sorry about her bad treatment by her parents. Sad for the way her life ended. Please keep bringing us these types of stories.
This was a beautiful tribute! As a girl growing up in the '80's, I would look at her pictures and be totally amazed...she was so regal and beautiful. She really was YSL's favorite muse. In pics, he would look at her like he couldn't believe she was real. I hope she is finally at peace.🤎🖤🧡
🤎🖤
Had not heard of Katusha before this vid. Greatly appreciated reading her story. A brave and heroic soul. May she rest in peace .
I had not heard of her either. She endured so much pain and did not get the love and nurturing a child should receive. I am glad that she lived her dream though. RIp Kartousha. 🤎🖤
Katoucha❤
thank you for that!🤎
I learn sooooo much on this channel! Great piece
I had the pleasure of meeting her in the late 80s in Milan. I was working as a Model. We met in a Fashionable Disco "Hollywood". I'll never forget how she stopped and said "Your beautiful" A beautiful, kind and gentle soul. Such a sad ending.
Katusha was an absolutely beautiful & amazing woman! Her contributions to the modeling industry will never be forgotten. Rest in Paradise!🤎🖤
She abandoned her baby so not so amazing more, like a selfish woman.
Wears every outfit beautifully…so much grace and beauty! Thank you for telling her story!
I remember seeing her in just about every magazine! She was absolutely gorgeous. I’m so sorry to learn of her death. 🙏🏾♥️
I remember her. She was so elegant & graceful. I never knew that she was a victim of FGM. So many beautiful women have such tragic endings. I’d like to know further details on her death, it’s horrible. She was an icon. A beautiful soul❤️
They doing that stuff to boys and girls all over the USA now. Calling it healthcare.
Terrible misogynistic culture and religions
Hello Karine, i 'm french, sorry for my bad english. Katoucha lived in a "péniche au bord de la Seine". She went in a restaurant with friends and came home late. Her shoes, the night and and little of alcool made her fall . It's an awfull accident. The acces to those boats/home is really tricky .
Could you update this to add another of her achievements ?
She was more than just a model/muse.
She was also a fashion designer. For her first show, several Supermodels walked in it for her. Plus it was covered in American & French media.
what year was that and where?
I am from Guineé. its so cool that you made this video on Katoucha. I didn't know that Haitians descended from guineeans that is so cool to me because I love haitens history.
Love from Canada, as a fellow hatian...love my people from Guinea, Conakry, but Haitians are not mostly specifically from Guinea, during colonial times a big part of Africa did not have the names we know today, however a part of western Africa was called Guinea coast and included countries such as Ghana, ivory coast, Togo all the way down to Cameroun..and so Haitians and other black diaspora are a mosaic of all the different ethnic groups that compose these countries.
@@blackchyna3000 l know but i think she was referring to modern Guinee.
Same here quite surprised about Haitians coming from Guinée i thought they were from Benin Republic.
Why does America have a “no Travel” alert on Haiti right now?😳 What’s going on there if I may ask?

🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
I've seen her face thousands of times. Never knew the story behind the BEAUTY. Thank you for giving her STORY the FACE it DESERVES.
I LOVE your videos. Thank you! I grew up following these models and knew nearly all of them by name. I also knew the names of the famous designers who created the beautiful clothes these models wore and I could name the designer of clothes without seeing their name. Their works of design art spoke for themselves. As a young girl, I would hang out in the local library for hours looking at stacks and stacks of fashion magazines that were bound in hardback binders in the basement of the library. I was very much into fashion and beauty, which fueled and eventually lead me to being successful in local beauty pageants and a short gig modeling in local fashion shows after I was recruited to model after a beauty pageant win in my early twenties.
The eighties and nineties to me were the golden era for fashion in every regard. It seemed to add spice and glamour to our every day lives. I loved the fantasy of it all, and I still hope to this day that we see another great fashion era where beautiful, wearable clothes were works of art and not the quirky, barely wearable “clothes “ of some designers today. Thanks for taking us down memory lane.
Well done Karine !!!!♥♥♥♥ May your soul RIP Katoucha🟤⚫🟤
Wow she is beautiful. I have never heard of her.She rocked everything she had on. Unfortunately there is such a sadness in her eyes even when she smiles. I’m so sorry she went through all that she did. I pray that she is in heaven resting and at peace.God rest her precious soul.
Yea, even looking at these photos, u see it in every photo.
I noticed that as well. I don’t think I could handle what she went through 😢
I never heard of her either, but you can tell the misery by her eyes...❤ from.the Netherlands!
As a child i was a precocious artist of anatomy and portraiture. Later i became a designer and this goddess was one of my favorites. She was the ultimate muse, but for me, what set her apart was that distant pain in her eyes, which to a trained eye, could never be hidden. The artist in me LOVED people with depth, and this characteristic that she had couldn't be covered over with the typical "model" professional mask. When Katoucha was on stage she had an air that was one of a totally alluring mystery that beckoned you to come closer or....RUN ! That's what set her apart from the others. The perfect human embodiment of the Rose ! Now hearing her tragic life, i can understand where all this came from. I'm just really glad she had a time of genuine FUN and had that feeling of succeeding and making it....for we all know the majority of people who strive, but never get there ! Bravo Karine, You created another outstanding masterpiece ❣
your comment here is SO Poignant... this entire thing makes me cry; the video; the comments... I knew her when I lived there; I never saw her angry however heard tales!! I want to see your work?
again thank You for this lovingly written comment!

Beautiful
Before I saw your comment, I too was gripped by the pain and sadness in her eyes (that you so aptly describe) that is so plainly visible to me. Some children experience a pain so deep that never ever goes away, no matter how big and bright your smile was/is or how famous you become. Female genital mutilation is still happening. It's sick and the worst thing is that it is the mothers and grandmothers who betray their daughters to have it done. I just can't fathom doing that to my beautiful daughters.
You write beautifully😊. Hope you continue…

🤎🖤It broke my heart when I heard about Katoucha's death. There is a video where she walked in Saint Laurent's retirement/retrospective show. When she came out, she was decked out in all black, and had the most tearful looking eyes. Thinking about it, Katoucha must have fell on some hard times at that point. She will be missed
I remember that show as it was historic. Every top model was in that show. Catherine Deneuve sang at the end. Katoucha looked stunning as usual along with Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Jerry Hall among many others.

@CuirPhotodotNet Don't judge. There would have been a VERY good reason. (Iman & Yves were very good friends to the end.) He was one of the 1st major Designers 2 book her wen she 1st came 2 Paris. He gave her his careeer. So if she declined 2 walk in his tribute show...there'd have been a SOLID reason. So how about giving her...(& Yves)...."THAT respect" 🫂

Katoucha was incredibly successful in her career. Black models were really embraced by the top designers in the 80s and early 90s. If only she was able to be good with money when she retired and handle the pain from her traumatised past. RIP we will always remember you.
Yes, that’s true. Modeling career is extremely tuff for no matter what model you were. You should listen to the things most supermodels had to listen before they became famous. You must have a high selfesteem to be able to be a model.
