  • Part of a complete deck restoration is stripping off old stain to clean and prepare the deck for new stain and sealer. Check out the step-by-step guide to a complete restoration of an older deck. When we got to this deck, it had a water based stain on it that had been applied about a year and a half prior. When we left, it was looking refreshed, clean, and ready for some Stain & Seal Experts Walnut semi-transparent oil-based stain.

    Do I have to strip a semi trans? Before I restrain it a darker color? Or can I just wash it only?

    • @StainSealExperts
      @StainSealExperts  Před 3 lety

      It depends on what kind of product is already on there. If it's oil based, you can usually just clean and then stain, but if it's water based, you will have to strip it. Check the TDS of the product used before.

    What stain stripper did you use?

    • @StainSealExperts
      @StainSealExperts  Před 2 lety

      It's called Wood Stripper, and we used our Butyl Boost to cut through the stubborn coating.

    Can you do this with a pressure treated deck? I know you can’t sand it. Thanks

      Yes, you can restore pressure treated pine. You can sand it as well.

    Hi. Do I have to clean it or pressure wash again after I put Wood Brightener? Thanks.

    • @StainSealExperts
      @StainSealExperts  Před 3 lety +2

      The brightener should be the last product you use during your restoration. You would want to clean it first, then brighten it.

      Thank you so much! The butyl is used to boost the stripper for water based stains, so it depends on what kind of stain is on the cabin.

      Agree and why wash all those toxic chemicals all over the soil in the yard by using a pressure sprayer. Maybe wet vac the bulk of it

    So just wash all that toxic chemicals to the soil around the house....Maybe suck up the bulk of it with a wet vac first to get most of it.

    Just thought I'd drop a line and let anyone considering your system here know that it is very effective. Follow exactly how instructed in this part 1 and 2 video. I've used strippers for years, this one is effective and made my job easier. Less sanding needed which is a better foundation for finish coats. Thanks Caleb, God bless!
