    Cantonese classifiers are like the noun genders in German and French but on steroids! But at least you can just use go3 if in doubt 😄

    Amanda how we find the difference or pronunciation in
    Dog-gau2
    9-gau2 ?

    • @5minutecantonese
      @5minutecantonese  Před 3 lety +1

      No difference at all 😊

      Same pronunciation but different Chinese character. Context will tell apart. Eg "that's a cute dog" is more likely than "that's a cute nine"

    I think even though Dim Sum is a collective dish, you must still use IS in English and not ARE.
    Their Dim Sum 'is' very tasty, would sound more native. Some plural things use 'is'.

    • @5minutecantonese
      @5minutecantonese  Před 2 lety

      Thank you very much for your comment. Right! In english, we use singular form.
      In cantonese, we can use plural. No matter it's dim sum, steak or cake.
      We can say "some", di1
      Or "ge3", both of them are correct.
      Less people use "go3", but it's correct too!😄
      Thank you!

    Miss Amanda, what pronounce of nei5? Is it lei5 or nei5? I’m confuse

    • @5minutecantonese
      @5minutecantonese  Před 3 lety +1

      Nei5 is the official pronunciation. But many local would say lei5. We call this lazy tone. I would not say it's correct but it's widely acceptable. 😊

    Miss Amanda I’ll ask again ge3 can omit if family members and close friends then why object can omit for example 我電話號碼?

    • @5minutecantonese
      @5minutecantonese  Před 3 lety +2

      For people, for sure we can omit the measure word ge3 or go3. For other nouns, most of them we cannot omit the measure word. Yes, you are right, some of them we can omit like phone number or address. There's no specific rule unfortunately. I would say, if you are not sure, better keep the measure word.😊

    • @vandamme6379

      @@5minutecantonese Yeah I think it's sometimes difficult because in Chinese & Cantonese there is no written rule. It's better to just hear native speakers talking and you will quickly understand when you can and when you cannot use.
